AVS HOST RANGERS IN SECOND HALF OF BACK-TO-BACK The Colorado Avalanche takes on the New York Rangers tonight at Pepsi Center. This evening's contest is the second half of a backto-back for the Avs, who lost - last night in Arizona. Tonight ends a stretch of seven games in days going back to Oct. 7. The Avs, who are in a stretch that has them playing 8-of-5 on the road, will depart for a seven-game, 5-day road trip on Monday. The 5-day trip will include stops in Philly, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Washington and Winnipeg. The seven-game journey matches the longest road trip in Avalanche history, as the Avs also had a seven-game "roadie" from Oct. 8-, 9. This upcoming trip will be the longest in terms of days, however, as that 9 voyage saw the Avs return home for a few days between the sixth and seventh games. Prior to moving to Denver, the Quebec Nordiques had a nine-game trip in 98-8 and an eight-gamer later that same season.

He was the third player in franchise history to accomplish the feat, joining Quebec's Michel Goulet (98-8) and Mats Sundin (99-9). Sundin did it his first five games of that 99-9 campaign. Mitchell's four-game goal streak was a new career high.

10 FAST STARTS ON THE BACK END Francois Beauchemin recorded five points (g/5a) in his first two games, the most ever by an Avalanche defenseman over his first two games of a season. Only one Quebec defender had more, Kerry Huffman, who notched six points in two games to begin the 99-9 campaign. With goals in his first two games, Erik Johnson became the first Avalanche defenseman to score in each of his first two games of a season since Aaron Miller in GRIN AND BERRA IT Reto Berra saw his shutout streak of : dating back to last season end on Oct. 8 at Los Angeles. If you include streaks that span multiple seasons, Berra's streak was the longest in franchise history, eclipsing Patrick Roy's mark of 9:9 set during the - campaign.
