MITCHELL SETS AVS RECORD FOR SEASON-OPENING GOAL STREAK John Mitchell opened the year with a four-game goal streak, becoming the first Avalanche player to ever score goals in each of the first four games of a season. He was the third player in franchise history to accomplish the feat, joining Quebec's Michel Goulet (98-8) and Mats Sundin (99-9). Sundin did it his first five games of that 99-9 campaign. Mitchell's four-game goal streak was a new career high.

10 FAST STARTS ON THE BACK END Francois Beauchemin recorded five points (g/5a) in his first two games, the most ever by an Avalanche defenseman over his first two games of a season. Only one Quebec defender had more, Kerry Huffman, who notched six points in two games to begin the 99-9 campaign. With goals in his first two games, Erik Johnson became the first Avalanche defenseman to score in each of his first two games of a season since Aaron Miller in GRIN AND BERRA IT Reto Berra saw his shutout streak of : dating back to last season end on Oct. 8 at Los Angeles. If you include streaks that span multiple seasons, Berra's streak was the longest in franchise history, eclipsing Patrick Roy's mark of 9:9 set during the - campaign.
