San Jose has 6 players that have scored at least once this season with the man advantage. TURNING THE TIDE After being outshot by their opponents in each of their first five games of the season (outshot 8-4), the Sharks have outshot their opponents in seven of the last eight contests (8-8). San Jose fired 5 shots on goal on Oct. 8 at Colorado, the 5 th time in franchise history that the Sharks recorded 5-plus shots in a game. 4 of those 5 instances have come under Head Coach Todd McLellan. Joe Pavelski fired shots on goal in the Oct. 8 game vs. Colorado, marking the first time in

9 franchise history that the Sharks have had players record or more shots on goal in back-to-back games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Tommy Wingels and Pavelski are the first teammates to fire -plus shots on goal in back-to-back games since Pittsburgh s James Neal (/) and Evgeni Malkin (/) during the - season. STARTING STRONG: The Sharks have scored the first goal in 9 out of games this season. In addition they are outscoring opponents 5- in the first period of games, and didn t give up their first, first-period goal until game seven (Oct. ) at Boston. They currently rank nd in the League in first-period goals scored (5). BURNS-ING UP THE SCORESHEET: Brent Burns became the first defenseman in Sharks franchise history to open a season with a five-game point streak, registering seven points (-6=7) from /8 at Los Angeles thru /8 at New Jersey. Burns scored his th career NHL goal on Oct. 6 at Anaheim, and currently ranks T- st () in the NHL among points by defenders (T-9 th overall). JACK OF ALL TRADES Tommy Wingels scored his first career power-play goal on Oct. 6 at Anaheim. Prior to that, his 7 career goals were the most by a Sharks player without having scored on the power play. Wingels fired shots on goal on Oct. 6 at Anaheim, the seventh time in Sharks history that a player has taken or more shots on goal, and the highest shot total by a Sharks player on the road in franchise history. Finally, Wingels became just the second player since to record one goal, or more shots on goal and a fighting major in the same game, joining former Shark Jeremy Roenick, who accomplished the feat on Feb., 994 against the Sharks while he was with Chicago (courtesy of Darin Stephens). HELPING HAND Patrick Marleau recorded his 5 th career assist on Oct. vs. Columbus, becoming just the 7 th active NHL player to reach 5 career assists. He joins Joe Thornton as the only two players in Sharks history to record 5 or more assists in Teal. JOINING ELITE COMPANY Joe Thornton recorded his, th career NHL point on Oct. 8 at New Jersey, becoming just the 46 th player in NHL history to reach that milestone. Thornton joins Jaromir Jagr as the only two active players to have recorded, or more points. BADGES OF HONOR The Sharks currently rank 6 th in the NHL in blocked shots (95), and have 5 players in the top-5 for blocked shots among forwards (Couture, 4; Pavelski/Nieto/Wingels, ; Burish, ). Sharks rookie defenseman Mirco Mueller leads all NHL rookies in blocked shots (9). In addition, Tommy Wingels ranks 4 th in the NHL in hits (48) and he and Joe Pavelski rank T-8 th in shots (47). SHUTTING EM OUT: Antti Niemi made 4 saves in San Jose s season opener, becoming the first goalie to shut out the defending Stanley Cup champs in their season opener since Toronto s Turk Broda shut out Boston on Nov. 8, 94, and the first Sharks goaltender to register a shutout in a season opener in franchise history. Alex Stalock made all saves in the Sharks second game of the season to give San Jose two consecutive shutouts to start the season. It was the first time in NHL history a team started the season with two shutouts by two different goalies, and just the 7 th time in NHL history a team has had shutouts in their first two games of the season. READY FOR THEIR CLOSE-UP Three Sharks made their debuts in Oct. 8 s season opener in Los Angeles. Tye McGinn, brother of former Sharks forward Jamie McGinn, made his Sharks debut and recorded an assist, while rookies Mirco Mueller and Chris Tierney made their NHL debuts. Both Mueller (Everett, WHL) and Tierney (London, OHL) were playing in the Canadian Jr. Leagues last season. Tierney recorded his first NHL point, assisting on Tommy Wingels second goal. Mueller recorded his first career NHL assist on Oct. 6 at NY Islanders. CLIMBING THE LADDER Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are both climbing up the NHL s all-time leader boards in a couple key categories. Marleau currently sits at 44 goals, which ranks T-6 st on the NHL s all-time goals scored list. Thornton is currently 4 th in NHL history for assists (86) and trails Denis Savard by just 5 helpers for rd place. HIT THE ROAD JACK The Sharks play 6 of their first games on the road, the highest percentage of road games in the first quarter of a season (76%) in franchise history. They have played of first games on the road six times in franchise history, including last season (-4). Thus far this season, the Sharks are 5-- on the road. YOUTH IS SERVED The Sharks opened the season with a teenager (Mirco Mueller, 9 years old) on the roster for the second season in a row. -4 marked the first season San Jose opened a campaign with a teenager (Tomas Hertl, 9) since Marc- Edouard Vlasic (9) began the 6-7 season with the Sharks (courtesy of Elias).
