The Avs, who are in the middle of a stretch that finds them playing seven of nine at home, will wrap up the homestand on Thursday night against the New York Islanders. AVALANCHE & SHARKS Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Avalanche and Sharks this season, and San Jose's only visit to Pepsi Center. The Avs will make their one trip to San Jose on April. The Sharks are the only Pacific Division team who will play the Avs twice in 4-5 (the rest will play Colorado three times). Valeri Kamensky 44 BRIERE TALLIES TH IN DRAMATIC FASHION Daniel Briere scored his th NHL goal on Oct. at Boston, lighting the lamp with under a second left in regulation to give the Avalanche a - victory. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Briere is the first player in Avalanche/Nordiques history to score a game-winning goal with one second left in regulation. Prior to that, Colorado's latest game-winning goal was scored at 9:5 of the third period a mark set by Jan Hejda in a 4- victory on April, vs. Vancouver. Briere s goal was only the fourth last-second tiebreaking goal (in regulation) over the last eight seasons.
