Forsberg won two Stanley Cups, a Hart Trophy and was named to the NHL First All-Star Team on three occasions during his time with the Avalanche. OPENING NIGHT The Colorado Avalanche opens their 20th Anniversary Season tonight against the Minnesota Wild at Pepsi Center. This evening's contest is being televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network, with Chris Cuthbert, Pierre McGuire and Brian Boucher on the call. The Avalanche will begin the season with three straight home games, facing Minnesota tonight, Dallas on Saturday and Boston on Oct. 14. This three-game homestand matches the franchise s longest-ever to begin a season, as the squad also opened with three straight at home. Tonight marks the second consecutive year that Colorado will face Minnesota in the season opener. The last opponent to meet the Avalanche in back-to-back openers was the Dallas Stars in and AVS, WILD BEST TWO TEAMS ON OPENING NIGHT Tonight's matchup features the NHL's best two teams in season openers, as Minnesota and Colorado both own a.643 all-time points percentage on Opening Night. 8 CENTRAL ONCE AGAIN NHL S TOUGHEST DIVISION The Central Division was the only division to produce five playoff teams for the second straight year in and the only division in which every team had at least 90 points. The Avs finished against Central teams last season but did finish the year by winning their last four games within the division and seven of their last nine (7-2-0). Colorado will play a total of 28 games versus its division foes this year, facing Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis and Winnipeg five times each, while meeting Chicago and Dallas four times. CLIMBING THE ALL-TIME LISTS: IGGY NEARS 1,400 GAMES, 600 GOALS Jarome Iginla enters the campaign needing just 11 goals to become the 19th player in NHL history to score 600 career goals. Newcomer Carl Soderberg, who dressed in all 82 contests with the Bruins last year, has the second-longest streak at 87 games. Duchene, Iginla and McLeod are all at 82 straight contests. FIFTY WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER The Avs were the only NHL team with six different 50-point scorers in , topped by co-leaders Jarome Iginla (59) and Gabriel Landeskog (59). It marked the first time Colorado produced six 50-point scorers since (also six).
