4 Anaheim Ducks Ducks stay positive despite woes Curtis Zupke After a 5-0 loss at Tampa Bay on Saturday, the Ducks remained positive as they begin a stretch of six of seven games at home with a matchup with Calgary on Tuesday. Ryan Getzlaf said there was "no point in yelling at other people" or dwelling on the negative despite an offense ranked 29th after 21 games and a slide after a run. "There's no one in this locker room that's played outstanding this year that has the ability to point at anybody," Getzlaf said. "The only time you can ever call anybody out is if you're doing your job, and doing it every night, and we just haven't had that from anybody. We're a group that's got to stay together and pull together and try and build each other [up]." Getzlaf has one goal, on an empty net, and eight assists in 15 games. Getzlaf said his subpar play has made it difficult for him to set a tone on the ice and in the locker room. "If I was playing outstanding, scoring every night, then maybe I'd be able to do some other things," he said. "But I can't do anything to anybody until those things happen and they just need to see that I'm not sulking because I'm not scoring." See the most-read stories in Sports this hour >> Getzlaf is not alone. Ryan Kesler and Jakob Silfverberg also have only one goal each, and Silfverberg's is also an empty-net goal. The silver lining is that the Ducks found some of their forechecking identity on the four-game trip. "Sometimes you take a step forward, and one step back," Coach Bruce Boudreau said. "The next time we do it, hopefully we're four games good and then one game bad and then eventually, we're playing 10 games at the top of our game." Injury updates Defenseman Hampus Lindholm said he is feeling better but remains day to day because of an upper-body injury that forced him to sit out Saturday. "I'm just going to talk to the trainers and see where I'm at [Tuesday]," he said. Center Nate Thompson is taking contact in practice but is believed to be about a week away from returning from shoulder surgery. New practice facility The Ducks announced plans to build a public ice-skating facility at the Great Park in Irvine that would also serve as their part-time practice facility. Pending a vote from the Irvine City Council, the four-sheet complex would break ground in the fall of 2016 and open in 2018, the Ducks said. Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli are contributing a minimum of $25 million to the project. The Ducks would practice there when Honda Center is not available. NEXT UP DUCKS VS. 5 Anaheim Ducks Ducks players keep emphasis on the positive Nov. 23, 2015 Updated 8:46 p.m. By JANIS CARR ANAHEIM The Ducks locker room Monday wasn t filled with angry, frustrated faces. No harsh words were spoken, no equipment was tossed and more importantly, no one pointed fingers following a 2-2 trip. Our group is going to stay together no matter what s going on.... We re trying to, Ryan Getzlaf said. There s no point in yelling at other people. There s no one in this locker room that has played outstanding this year and has the ability to point at anybody. Only time ever you can call anybody out is when you re doing it every night and we just haven t had that from anybody, so we re a group that has to stay together, pull each other and try to build up each other. Don t be fooled, Coach Bruce Boudreau said. Beneath the calm, the Ducks are not altogether happy with their record, although they do see promise. Believe me they re angry, Boudreau said. They don t like the position they re in. The Ducks (7-10-4) find themselves fifth in the Pacific Division, one point better than the Calgary Flames (8-12-1). The Ducks will be at home Tuesday against the Flames, then at divisional rival Arizona (10-9-1) on Wednesday, then home for six in a row beginning Friday afternoon against Stanley Cup champion Chicago (11-8-2). Despite their recent.500 trip, a stinker in Tampa and a challenging week ahead, the Ducks said they prefer to accentuate the positive in their season, such as their recent road victories against Carolina and Florida and their solid play in a 3-2 loss to Nashville. We re playing good hockey, Ryan Kesler said. We don t judge on wins and losses. We judge on whether we played good and if we should have won. I thought the game in Nashville was good. We played the way we should have played all year. And just because we threw up a stinker (against the Lightning) doesn t mean anything. We re going to play like that more than once in 82 games. It s what people don t understand, that it s hard to be good every night, it s hard to be consistent. We re not the only team in the league that does that. We re just going to keep staying positive and worrying about our game and what we built on that road trip. Boudreau said he, too, is dwelling on the good stuff and (would rather) emphasize the good stuff than bad stuff. The bad stuff wasn t structural; we just had a bad game. Three of the four games on the road we were good, really good and we weren t very good in the last game, but I thought it was a very positive sign, he added. NO CHANGES IN STORE Boudreau said that despite their record, he will use the same four lines as he did on the trip. He was pleased with the overall effort. For four games now, we ve kept the lines together, so I think that has had an effect for the most part, Boudreau said. They ve all played with each other, so I don t think it s a really big deal. Hampus Lindholm and Nate Thompson both participated in full practice Monday and could be back in the lineup this week. Lindholm took a hit during the victory against Florida and sat out the Tampa game. Thompson underwent major shoulder surgery in June and was expected to be out 5-6 months. The Calgary Flames don t like talking about it, either. But it s unavoidable. How can you not speak of it? The Ducks have won 20 consecutive regular-season games over the Flames at the Honda Center, with the streak dating to a time the arena at the corner of Katella and Douglas was known as the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim and the home team was called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. It s the longest active streak by one team over another in the NHL, going back to the season, an almost absurd stretch of domination in an age of parity and salary cap limitations that make such things difficult to maintain season after season after season. If it s a source of pride among the Ducks, it s difficult to know. Mostly, they just rolled their eyes whenever it was mentioned after Monday s practice at the Honda Center, a little more than 24 hours before the Ducks tried for a 21st straight home win over the Flames. Good, coach Bruce Boudreau said when a reporter jokingly said he wouldn t ask about it. Defenseman Cam Fowler smiled faintly when asked about the streak, which doesn t include three victories during the Ducks second-round playoff victory over the Flames last spring or a 2-1 mark against Calgary during a first-round win in Captain Ryan Getzlaf took a deep breath. Defenseman Hampus Lindholm shrugged. Forgive them. The Ducks have plenty of other issues after reaching the one-quarter mark of the 82-game slog that is the NHL s regular season. They are , sitting in fifth place in the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the sixth-place Flames (8-12-1). I don t think it matters at all, Fowler said. Sometimes you have streaks like that, that go on for a while. If anything, it motivates them more to end that streak. That s pretty much all people were talking about going into the playoffs last year. At the end of the day, it s a streak that doesn t mean a whole lot besides us protecting our home ice, which is something we want to do. It doesn t matter who s coming in, we want to establish this as a tough place for people to play. The Ducks are a pedestrian at the Honda Center, which helps to explain their wobbly start to a season in which they were picked by many to win the Stanley Cup championship in June. Their play has ranged from so-so to mediocre to OK on home ice. We started the season with a pretty big target on us, and when you start the season the way we did, everything is an uphill battle, Getzlaf said. All we re worried about is rounding our game out, so we can make the playoffs. Getzlaf said he liked the way the Ducks returned to their strong forechecking game during road victories over the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers, plus a one-goal loss to the Nashville Predators. The Ducks 5-0 loss Saturday to the Tampa Bay Lightning was a clunker, plain and simple. It would seem the Ducks have regained their identity. I think it s been better the last week or week and a half, Getzlaf said. The Ducks figure to get a lift tonight with the return of Lindholm, who didn t play Saturday against the Lightning because of an upper-body injury suffered Thursday against the Panthers. He skated with his teammates with no restrictions Monday. I think this is a time we can prove it s tough to play against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center, Lindholm said. It s more about us finding a way back to our game and having teams come in and feel like it s tough playing here. If we do that, there s going to be a lot of wins.

7 Arizona Coyotes Arizona Coyotes backup Anders Lindback finds more time Zach Buchanan, 4:04 p.m. MST November 23, 2015 Coyotes backup goalie Anders Lindback didn t expect to play this much. But here he is, on pace to play in the most games (28) and minutes (1,468) of his career. Those projected totals could be boosted if top netminder Mike Smith is unable to play against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. I was always working for that, Lindback said. I m not saying hoping, but working hard to try and earn the chances. Obviously I ve seen more playing time than I thought I would, maybe. But I m not happy. We ve lost the last two games I ve started. Lindback s previous highs were 24 games and 1,304 minutes, set during the season with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He s been called on more often early in the current campaign as Smith has dealt with runs of ineffective play. Now Smith is dealing with a minor lower-body injury, according to Coyotes coach Dave Tippett. Smith missed Saturday s game with the ailment, but was able to turn in a partial practice Monday. The team also called up goaltender Louis Domingue from the American Hockey League to cover its bases, moving winger Steve Downie to injured/reserve to create a roster spot. The Coyotes have a stretch of three games in four days beginning Wednesday. We ve got to back ourselves up to make sure we ve got enough goaltenders to practice around, Tippett said. It s a good sign that Mike was out there today. Tippett called Lindback a steady player, noting that, like Smith, he s had good games and bad. The 27-year-old Swede has started four games and entered three in relief, posting a save percentage of.909, three points above his career average. Smith s percentage is.904 this season. Like everybody else, there are times you d like to play a little better, but there s times he s played very well, Tippett said. He s been just a steady guy in there for us, giving us a chance to win. Grossmann progresses Tippett sounded optimistic about the chances of defenseman Nicklas Grossmann suiting up against the Ducks after Grossmann had a full practice Monday. The 30-year-old Swede has been out since Nov. 7 with a lower-body injury and is on IR, meaning a roster move would be necessary for him to play. He made it through a whole practice, which is a real good sign, Tippett said. Grossmann has been on the cusp of returning for a while. The team took him on their recent four-game road trip, and even though he didn t return to the ice, being around his teammates made sitting out a little less painful. You re on the sideline for a while and your thoughts start to play tricks on you, Grossmann said. I went on the road with the guys and did a lot of rehab. Just being around the boys and today being out there with them and working hard and having a few laughs, it s a good feeling. Grossmann had tallied three points in the prior two games before injuring himself early against the New York Rangers on Nov. 7. Ice chip Tippett needs two more victories to reach 500 regular-season wins in his NHL coaching career, but isn t one to focus on even numbers. It s no different than 498 or 502, he said. They would have caved, given in to the mass of penalties, sloppy play, demoralizing comebacks. Instead, despite golden chances against Tuukka Rask in the third period, giving up the lead twice, and going on the penalty kill with 1:42 left in overtime, the Bruins pulled out 2 points Monday night against the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre with a 4-3 overtime win. It was something that coach Claude Julien addressed with his team after the second period. I said, Guys, some nights are tougher than others, Julien said. As much as you want your best players to be your best players, that s not always the case in an 82-game schedule. But what you want to see is your players work through it. They did. It really doesn t matter how you win, as long as you get the win, Brad Marchand said of the team s second win over Toronto in three days in the home-and-home series. They re not all going to be pretty. We ve got to learn to be able to win games like this. We did that tonight. I think there s still a lot to learn. We still didn t have a great, great game. But at least we were able to hold on, whereas early on in the year we would have collapsed. We bounced back and ultimately we won, so we are learning. The victory moved the Bruins into the playoff structure. Normally, this would not be notable less than a quarter of the way into the season. But with Thanksgiving just two days away traditionally a crucial marker of a team s eventual finish it becomes so. It was the third win in a row for a team that looks like it is coming together, particularly in terms of a once-rocky at best penalty kill. For the third straight game, the Bruins did not surrender a power-play goal, elevating the team to 74.7 percent on the kill and out of last place in the NHL in that statistic. Give credit to the penalty kill tonight, Julien said. They had to kill a lot of penalties. They did a great job and they deserve credit. Tuukka finished real strong, which we needed. The Bruins survived multiple dicey moments on the penalty kill, including overtime (after a Patrice Bergeron holding penalty) and at the end of the second period, when Adam McQuaid was called for hooking and roughing with Marchand and Toronto s P.A. Parenteau getting matching minors 42 seconds later. And at 10:15 of the third, the Bruins top defensive pairing (Zdeno Chara and Zach Trotman) headed to the box for roughing up Nazem Kadri. The Maple Leafs failed to take advantage of any of the opportunities. There s a commitment to getting pucks out, there s a commitment to blocking shots, and there s commitment not to run around, Julien said. The guys are starting to read off each other a little better and because of that the confidence is starting to come back. Early in the game, the Bruins found one way to get around that penalty kill, with a shorthanded goal by Marchand at the 4:58 mark. After Marchand snagged the puck behind the net from Toronto goaltender James Reimer, Patrice Bergeron put a shot on net. The puck bounced up high off Reimer and Marchand, with his best home run swing, batted it out of the air and into the net. I think it s just the hand-eye coordination that we ve had throughout the years, Marchand said. It s kind of natural now. You miss more than you get. The Bruins increased the lead to 2-0 on Zac Rinaldo s first career NHL goal, a wrister from the right faceoff dot at 12:39. The secondary assist went to Rask. But, as has been the case, Boston struggled with the lead. Joffrey Lupul and Leo Komarov scored within 62 seconds of each other midway through the second to pull the Leafs even. Then, after Marchand snagged his second goal of the game, Toronto s Tyler Bozak knocked in a loose puck at 16:09 to even the score again. That s where it stayed through 20 minutes of the third, five minutes of overtime (including Rask making a point-blank save on James van Riemsdyk), andthe first two rounds of the shootout. David Krejci then atoned for a lackluster game with the lone goal of the shootout, beating Reimer through the five-hole to give the Bruins the win. You just react. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don t, Rask said of his big, late save. That s the thing about him he comes up big when we need it, Marchand said of his goalie. He did again tonight. That s why we re going to be a good team, it s because of him and when we re hot, it s because he s hot. It s good to have him back there. Boston Globe LOADED:

9 Boston Bruins Landon Ferraro provides a pick-me-up for Bruins By Amalie Benjamin November 23, 2015 TORONTO After being placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings, Landon Ferraro decided to prepare himself emotionally for a trip back to the AHL. He thought it was safer that way. But Ferraro s emotional low quickly became a high Sunday when he found out the Bruins had picked him up and he would remain in the NHL. A bit of a mess, Ferraro said Monday morning of his previous 24 hours. You go from being really disappointed and just trying to think of all the options that can happen to getting a call right at noon from [general manager] Kenny Holland in Detroit saying that Boston picked [me] up, and then talking to [Bruins GM] Don Sweeney right after that. After that, I mean, my phone didn t stop going. Leading up to the waiver move, Ferraro had not recorded a point for the Red Wings this season, gathering only seven penalty minutes in 10 games. It may not be a coincidence that the Bruins have won back-to-back games with the pair together again. He was given the choice of flying or taking a car service from Detroit to Toronto to join the Bruins for Monday night s game against the Maple Leafs. He opted for the car, turned off his cellphone, and did his best to relax. Just tried to unwind a bit. It s a stressful 24 hours, Ferraro said, but it ended well and I m happy where I am. Ferraro didn t have much time to relax at the Air Canada Centre after replacing Tyler Randell on the roster and picking up an assist on Brad Marchand s second-period goal. The goal was initially credited to Ferraro. After the assist, he got the chance to do a second-intermission interview with none other than his father, Ray Ferraro, the former Hartford Whaler who was calling the game for TSN from between the benches. It was a little bit different, Landon Ferraro said of the interview. He asked one question I can t remember what it was but I was kind of shaking my head. I m like, that was a terrible question. I kind of wanted to say it, but I m like, probably shouldn t. But it s something that is pretty cool for our family to be able to have. I m sure we ll get a picture out of it or something. It ll be something to keep for a long time. Coach Claude Julien gave Ferraro 8:07 of ice time. I think he s a good player, Julien said of the right-shot center who brings speed and penalty-killing ability to a team that needs both. He s fast, he s gritty, I know he kills penalties. He s a second-round pick and Detroit usually drafts pretty well. The good news for Ferraro and something that made Monday less complicated is that the Bruins head back to Detroit on Tuesday. It s going to be weird, for sure, said Ferraro. I was just on their plane going home from St. Louis two days ago, to going back in and playing. It s not like there s any hard feelings or anything like that. It s the nature of the business sometimes. I m excited to go back and, to be honest, it made everything a little easier. I could grab a little day bag and figure out my clothes and everything tomorrow after practice. As Sweeney noted, the Bruins depth has been hurt by injuries. Seth Griffith has missed significant time this season because of an MCL sprain in his left knee suffered during the preseason, and Alexander Khokhlachev recently had finger surgery that will sideline him 4-6 weeks. We d love to do it internally, Sweeney said of filling spots on the NHL roster, specifically mentioning Khokhlachev and Griffith as replacements who have been bitten by the injury bug. Koko is probably a great example of that, he said. I had a great conversation with him when he went back and he would probably have another opportunity [except] he s out for an extended period of time. As I ve always said, it probably presents an opportunity for somebody else. In Landon s case, that s his opportunity. Rask dinged Tuukka Rask took a puck to the right side of his helmet midway through the second period, not long before Joffrey Lupul scored the Maple Leafs first goal. Asked if the shot affected him, Rask said, I don t know. I was seeing stars a little bit there. Not to a point that I would have skated off the net. I m not going to blame that for the goal. I was shaking it off a little, but I mean obviously when you get hit in the side of the jaw it s not ideal. But I shook it off.... Frank Vatrano participated in Monday s morning skate, the first time he had taken part in a full-team skate since suffering an upper-body injury Thursday against Minnesota. He missed Saturday s game against the Maple Leafs and was a late scratch for Monday night s game. He said that everything feels almost back to normal.... Kevan Miller, who was placed on IR to make room for Ferraro and who is not on the road trip, will be evaluated when the team returns home at the end of the week, Sweeney said. He will be eligible to return from IR at that point... Sweeney said David Pastrnak is off his crutches and a second CT scan resulted in a positive report. [The injury] showed up after the fact from the initial X-rays, so we re not going to take any chances at this point in time, Sweeney said. We ll make sure we give him all the time he needs to heal properly. Boston Globe LOADED: I haven t seen him a ton, but even watching him this morning you can tell he s a good skater, strong skater. From what I m told, he s a pretty reliable player as well. Ferraro echoed that assessment. I feel like I can get in on the forecheck and kind of try and spend as much time down there as possible, he said. I like being on the PK and that s where I m comfortable. Ferraro, drafted at No. 32 overall in 2009, made his NHL debut with the Red Wings in , appearing in four games. This season, he recently returned to practice after being sidelined since Nov. 6 after suffering a lower-body injury against the Maple Leafs. He certainly scored at the American Hockey League level, said Sweeney of Ferraro s 75 goals in 270 games. We ve had just a crazy number of injuries at both levels [NHL and AHL] and I think it was an opportunity to take a look at a player that has a little bit of NHL experience, has the speed component, the penalty-killing component, that s certainly worthwhile for us to try to integrate into our group.

10 Boston Bruins Bruins Notebook: Ex-Wing bolsters depth on front line Steve Conroy Monday, November 23, 2015 The Bruins added another player to bolster their bottom six forwards. The B s claimed 24-year-old right winger Landon Ferraro off waivers yesterday from the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings 2009 second-round draft pick (32nd overall), the son of former NHLer Ray Ferraro, has one goal and is minus-2 in 17 NHL games over the course of three seasons. He is scoreless and minus-3 in 10 games this season. In 70 games with Grand Rapids last year, he had 27 goals and 15 assists. Due to a lower-body injury, Ferraro last played on Nov. 6 and is now listed on injured reserve on the Bruins roster, though it s believed he s close to a return. Ferraro projects as a fourth-line forward, with possible penalty-killing responsibilities. The B s fourth unit has been seeing less time as of late amidst inconsistent effectiveness. Fourth-line right winger Ty Randell played 6:18 in the win over Toronto on Saturday. He played 4:08 and 3:59 in the previous two games. The entire organization has been hit with injuries. In Boston, wingers David Pastrnak (foot) and Frank Vatrano (upper body) are on the shelf while Providence suffered it s share of injuries, most notably to winger Alexander Khokhlachev (hand). Pastrnak, Chris Kelly (out for the season with a broken leg) and defenseman Kevan Miller (upper body) are all on injured reserve. Ferraro could see his old team soon, if deemed healthy. The B s play in Toronto on Monday and then have a date with the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday. Trots gets back in Zach Trotman seemed as ready as any Bruin for the season. He played well enough down the stretch last year to show he belongs in the NHL. When the Bruins failed to make the playoffs, he went down to Providence and was the farm team s best defenseman in its playoff run. And when Trotman arrived in training camp, he made a mini-splash by winning the annual pull-up competition with 41 repetitions. But there was a cold bucket of water to the face coming, and quickly. After a disastrous opening game for everyone a 6-2 thumping by the Winnipeg Jets at the Garden Trotman was a healthy scratch for the next game. And the next game. And the next game. He sat for 12 straight games, nearly a month of watching hockey. But the 25-year-old defenseman now appears to be salvaging his season and getting his career back on the promising track of late last season. He was re-inserted into the lineup on Nov. 7 and his play has been mostly positive. He s a plus-3 in his half-dozen games since getting back in the lineup. He doesn t have a stranglehold on a spot in the lineup. He was scratched once more since getting back in and, whenever Miller returns to good health, the competition for playing time will resume. For Trotman, he just kept his head up. I ve never really been through a stretch like that before in my career so I actually talked to a couple people, said Trotman. It is what it is and I had to take it in stride and look at it as a challenge and try and prep myself in practice and push other guys. But at the same time I had to make sure that my game is squared away and I m ready to go next time I get a shot. That s what I tried to do and now it s taking that approach and bringing it into every practice while I m still in the lineup to stay there. One benefit he has now is playing with Zdeno Chara, who missed the first two games of the season with an upper-body injury. When asked what that was like, Trotman broke into an are-you-kidding-me grin. It s awesome, he said. I know I make a little gaffe here or there and he s got my back. And I think I m able to help him a little bit too. So I m just trying to learn here now and continue to try and be a solid (defenseman) back there and try and take down those top lines. Shifting Spooner Coach Claude Julien employed Ryan Spooner as the third-line left winger in the 2-0 win over the Maple Leafs. The coach expects he ll continue to move around Spooner. It s a great option to have, Julien said. It doesn t mean he s not going to play center again, but I like the fact that I can maybe move (Joonas) Kemppainen up against certain teams because they re a heavy game, or maybe we need a little bit more late in the game. Then I know I can move (Spooner) to the wing and he s still going to be a helpful player, instead of just necessarily leaving him on the bench and waiting for the next power play. So, no doubt, there s some things you can do with Ryan, and it s nice to see that he s embraced that challenge on the wing at times, so we can utilize him. It s his advantage. After sweating out almost the entire 24-hour waiting period after being placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings Saturday, the 24-year-old forward found out, with minutes to spare, that he d been claimed by the Bruins. A car service delivered him from Detroit Sunday night and he skated with his new team this morning. Coach Claude Julien said it will be a game-time decision whether he ll be in the lineup tonight as the B s try to complete a home-and-home sweep of the Maple Leafs. A bit of a mess, a stressful 24 hours, said Ferraro of the process that made him a Bruin. But I m really excited about it. I was really happy in Detroit. I had been there since I was drafted. But there were a ton of bodies and I was the odd-man out. I was disappointed. But now I m really excited and ready to get moving. What can he bring to the B s? Speed, he said. I feel I can get in on the forecheck and spend as much time down there as possible. I like being on the PK. That s where I m comfortable. I know they ve had some injuries. I m trying to quickly learn what they try to achieve on their PK and how they want to play it. That s where I feel I can help. Julien said he doesn t know a lot about Ferraro, the son of ex-nhl star Ray Ferraro, who will call tonight s game for TSN. I think he a good player, said Julien. He s fast and gritty. Except, that is, for the score. Stephen Harris Tuesday, November 24, 2015 Boston Herald LOADED: TORONTO The Bruins had to come to town knowing it wasn t going to be easy to beat a much-improved Toronto Maple Leafs team for the second time in three days. It certainly wasn t. In fact, it was an ugly, nasty, grind of a contest last night at the Air Canada Center exactly the sort of game a team has to be able to win. Earlier this season, it s doubtful the B s would have done that, but they did when David Krejci scored the lone goal of a shootout, giving the B s a 4-3 victory and their third successive win. It wasn t pretty, that s for sure, Krejci said. But we found a way to win the game and get two points. Two obvious keys to this win: The much-maligned B s penalty kill, ranked last in the NHL, killed all six Toronto power plays. And on the last Maple Leafs advantage, in overtime, goalie Tuukka Rask made an impossible glove save on James van Riemsdyk s point-blank shot from the goalmouth with 9 seconds left. It was just one of those you react on, Rask said. The puck somehow got to that side. I think the original save was blocker side and then it was there. Sometimes you get those and sometimes you don t. But he did, and the B s ended up with two points. That s the thing about (Rask), Brad Marchand said. He comes up big when you need him. In this one, the Bruins played very well in the first period, with a very heavy and effective forecheck. They grabbed a 2-0 lead on a brilliant, highlight film-quality score by Marchand, and a nice wrist shot from the right circle by Zac Rinaldo (No. 1). Then the Maple Leafs stormed back to tie the game, before Marchand s second of the night (No. 10), set up by newcomer Landon Ferraro, made it 3-2 at 14:40 of the period. Tyler Bozak re-tied the game for Toronto with 3:51 left in the period. And after a frantic, wild and scoreless third period and overtime, it came down to the shootout. Our game was kind of average, coach Claude Julien said. We talked about it after the second period. I said, Guys, some nights are tougher than others. As much as you want your best players to be your best players, it s not always the case. But what you want to see is your players work through it. Our guys grinded I out, we found a way to win. David had probably a tough night for us, but he scores the winning goal. That s a perfect example of a guy gutting it out and saying, I ve got to find a way. Marchand opened the scoring with an entertaining shorthanded goal. The puck was cleared the length of the ice by the B s and Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer skated around behind his cage to handle the puck not knowing that Marchand was sprinting down the ice toward him. When the goalie looked up, Marchand cleanly took the puck away. Marchand passed out to the low slot to Patrice Bergeron, who put a quick shot on net. Reimer blocked Bergeron s shot, but left a rebound tumbling high in the air toward the left circle. Marchand then batted the puck out of mid-air and into the open net. The play was reviewed for a possible high stick, but deemed legal. I just wanted to get it out front with Bergy there, Marchand said. Reimer made a pretty good save and I just wanted to get a whack at it. I thought it was (a good goal) and it was. Passes by Rask and Dennis Seidenberg created a fast-break opportunity for Rinaldo, up the right wing. The pesky winger, going one-on-one against defenseman Dion Phaneuf, turned on his off-side in the circle and snapped a low forehander past Reimer on the short side for the second goal. The third B s goal was created by a Ferraro forecheck, getting a puck loose in the right circle to Marchand, who snapped a shot past the Leafs

13 Boston Bruins Bruins Notebook: Ferraro waives hello in Toronto Stephen Harris Tuesday, November 24, 2015 TORONTO Considering how poor the Bruins have been killing penalties this season 30th and last in the NHL maybe it makes sense to add a forward known to be particularly adept at that skill. New Bruins winger Landon Ferraro, claimed off waivers Sunday as the Detroit Red Wings tried to demote him to their AHL affiliate, joined his new team yesterday. He took part in the morning skate and was on the fourth line last night, earning his first NHL assist in the B s 4-3 shootout win over the Maple Leafs. It couldn t have worked out any better, Ferraro said. I think the easiest way to put it is you go from an absolute low (getting waived), to an absolute high, especially going from one team with a ton of history to another team with a ton of history. I ve been pretty lucky that way. It s been a lot of fun so far. Ferraro was interviewed on the ice between periods by his dad, ex-nhl star and TSN analyst Ray Ferraro. It was a little bit different, Landon said. You re trying not to say anything too bad. He asked me one question and I was kind of shaking my head: That was a terrible question. I kind of wanted to say it. I probably shouldn t have. But now I ve just skewered him. It was different. Vatrano scored a goal in his first NHL game and had not scored since in five games. Among his 19 shots on goal, he s had several very good chances. I wouldn t say I m frustrated, he said. I d be frustrated if the chances weren t coming. Goal scoring can be funny. Sometimes you can be really hot and keep scoring, and if the puck isn t bouncing your way you can go four, five games without getting a point. Eventually if you keep throwing pucks towards the net, they ll go in. Pastrnak not ready David Pastrnak had a new CT scan and the winger will be given more time to recover from a foot injury. We re not going to take any chances, Sweeney said. We re going to give him all the time he needs to heal. Defenseman Kevan Miller (upper body) also will miss this trip and be re-evaluated upon the B s return home....
