Philadelphia Inquirer - NHL considering making a new offer to union Sam Carchidi Bill Daly, the NHL's deputy commissioner, hinted Monday that the league may be willing to make the next offer in a labor battle with players that has caused the first two weeks of the season to be canceled. The Big Four - NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and Daly, and players' union executives Don and Steve Fehr - are scheduled to meet Tuesday in Toronto. In the NHL's latest proposal, made about a month ago, the players would receive 49 percent of the hockey-related revenue in the first year of a proposed six-year collectivebargaining agreement. The players would receive 48 percent in the second year and 47 percent in the last four years. The players had requested 53 to 54 percent of the revenue. The NHLPA has not countered the owners' last proposal. The league has repeatedly said it wants the players' union to make the next move. If the players' union doesn't make a counter-offer, will the NHL continue to sit back and wait, or would it make another proposal to spur some action?

"We obviously feel there is an urgency to get to an agreement and to save our season," Daly said in an to The Inquirer. "So while not ideal, we will have to keep all options open on how to best proceed." That sounds as if the NHL is growing tired of waiting around for the NHLPA. Having missed their first pay checks on Monday, NHL players may have a bit more urgency as their union goes back to the bargaining table. Then again, the players are scheduled to receive escrow checks this month that will pay them 8.5 percent of their salaries. For the NHL's average salary of $2.5 million, that translates to a little more than $200,000. Unless something dramatic happens in the next few days, more games are expected to be wiped out by the end of this week. The hope is that economic issues - the core of the labor stalemate - will be discussed Tuesday, Daly said in an . He added that if they are not discussed Tuesday, the league wants to work toward getting them to the bargaining table soon. By the way, the NHL commissioned a focus group, led by top Republican strategist Frank Luntz, to aid its lockout public relations campaign, it was reported by Deadspin. Briere, Giroux excel. Flyers teammates Danny Briere and Claude Giroux, who used to be housemates in Haddonfield, are off to impressive starts for Germany's Eisbaren Berlin. They have combined for 13 points in two games, with Briere collecting three goals and four assists, and Giroux notching a goal and five assists. Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is 1-2 for CSKA Moscow, compiling a 3.01 goals-against average and.897 save percentage in the KHL. Phantoms update. The Adirondack Phantoms, who have nine players on their roster who spent time with the Flyers last season, are off to a 1-1 start and don't play again until Friday in St. John's, Newfoundland. Brayden Schenn leads the Phantoms with two goals; he has played mostly on a line with Sean Couturier (two points) and Matt Ford. In the third period of Sunday's 4-0 loss in Springfield, Zac Rinaldo replaced Ford on that unit. Schenn had both of his goals in the Phantoms' season-opening 6-3 win over visiting Portland before a sellout crowd of 4,801 on Saturday. Perhaps the biggest surprise thus far: Rinaldo has no penalty minutes in two games. He was second in the NHL with 232 minutes last season.

Adirondack's Harry Zolnierczyk, who played in 37 games with the Flyers last season, took a stick to the face in the second period Sunday and left the game. He did not return, but a Phantoms official said the injury was not serious. 2. Philadelphia Daily News - NHL negotiations resuming today Daily News Wire Reports THE NHL and its locked-out players will resume negotiations Tuesday in Toronto after a 4-day break following 2 days of meetings last week. The announcement Monday comes on the same day players missed their first scheduled paycheck of the regular season. The NHL has called off 82 games through Oct the first 2 weeks of the season. More cancellations likely will be made soon if a deal isn't reached. An agenda is not yet set for the talks that shift to the union's office from league headquarters. But the sides will be looking to make headway on the core economic issue - the division of hockey-related revenue. That issue took a back seat in New York last week when the league and union worked on secondary matters that also must be resolved. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly are expected to meet with union executive director Donald Fehr and NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr. Bettman and Donald Fehr took part only briefly during last week's negotiations that featured four separate bargaining sessions. 3. CSNPhilly.com - NHL labor talks to resume on Tuesday Associated Press NEW YORK -- The NHL and the locked-out players' union will resume negotiations Tuesday in Toronto after a four-day break following two days of meetings last week. The announcement Monday comes on the same day players missed their first scheduled paycheck of the regular season. The NHL has called off 82 games through Oct the first two weeks of the season. More cancellations likely will be made soon if a deal isn't reached. An agenda is not yet set for the talks that shift to the union's office from league headquarters. But the sides will be looking to make headway on the core economic issue - - the division of hockey-related revenue.

"It's fair to say that we will be looking for ways to advance the puck on the main issues -- how to move the process forward," Daly told The Associated Press in an . Bettman and Donald Fehr took part only briefly during last week's negotiations that featured four separate bargaining sessions over the two days. So far, the sides have set aside only Tuesday to negotiate. This will mark the second time the league has gone to union headquarters since the lockout began Sept. 16. An unannounced session was held there Oct. 5. Last week, discussions centered on such issues as drug testing, player contract terms, grievances and other legal matters. The inability to close the gap on the revenue fight has all but assured no NHL games will be played in October. After five hours of talks at the league office Wednesday, the sides got back together for nearly as long -- in two sessions -- on Thursday. Daly estimated the NHL lost $100 million from the cancellation of the entire preseason and would be out another $140 million to $150 million with the regular-season losses. The NHL still says it is waiting for a new proposal from the union, with the owners adamant players accept a significant drop from the 57 percent of revenue they received under the salary cap in the last contract. The players don't want what they consider massive cuts at a time when the overall revenue pot reached record numbers ($3.3 billion) last year. The union contends the league hasn't offered anything to the players in exchange for their agreement to lower the percentage they receive. The players' association says the NHL, in its subsequent proposals, has agreed only to trim the amount it wishes to hold back from the players. A new offer Tuesday isn't required for talks on hockey-related revenue to take place. But there is no guarantee the topic will be broached. Last week, the sides tried to determine what constitutes hockey-related revenue. The league and union exchanged offers Sept. 12, but none has been made by either party since the lockout began. 4. CSNPhilly.com - Lindros trade changed Flyers, NHL history CSNPhilly.com Staff

In 1991, at the age of 18, Eric Lindros was one of the most highly-touted junior-hockey players in history. So, with the No. 1 pick in the 1991 NHL draft, selecting Lindros was a no-brainer for the Quebec Nordiques. Yet, the pick wasn't fulfilling because the young Lindros didn't want to play for Quebec, which ultimately changed the NHL in multiple variations and made for one memorable rookie season. NHL.com published a four-part series looking back at the decision by Lindros. The up-and-coming star refused to sign with the Nordiques, and instead, played junior hockey and competed with Canada in the World Junior Championship and the Olympics during the season. Lindros informed Quebec that he would re-enter the NHL draft in 1993, so the team was forced to trade him in order to receive compensation before it was too late. "June 20, 1992 marked one of the stranger days in NHL history: Just prior to the start of the draft, the Nordiques twice traded Lindros' rights -- first to the Philadelphia Flyers then to the New York Rangers," writes Adam Kimelman of NHL.com. "After a week-long arbitration process, the result was the biggest trade in NHL history, which saw Lindros' rights awarded to the Flyers in exchange for six players (Steve Duchesne, Peter Forsberg, Rox Hextall, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci and Chris Simon), two draft picks and $15 million. "Then, on Oct. 13, 1992, Lindros played his first NHL game against the team he spurned in a province that viewed him as the definition of the spoiled professional athlete. Lindros lit up Le Colissee with a pair of goals, but he was showered with vitriol by jilted Nordiques fans. "The Lindros affair changed the fate of three franchises and four cities. As we commemorate the 20th anniversary of Lindros' first NHL game in Quebec City, NHL.com looks back -- through the words of those who experienced it -- at his unique arrival in the League and that memorable debut in Quebec." The Flyers benefited from Lindros' historical shunning of Quebec by bringing him to Philadelphia where he played eight seasons, scored 290 goals, dished out 369 assists and compiled 659 points -- all of which rank in the top 10 in franchise history. 5. CSNPhilly.com - Modano headlines U.S. hockey HOF inductees Associated Press DALLAS -- Mike Modano made his mark long before he and the Minnesota North Stars relocated to Dallas and brought hockey to the Sun Belt.

Once he got there in 1993, he didn't miss a beat. Modano, the highest-scoring U.S.-born player in NHL history, joined longtime New Jersey Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello, and player-turnedbroadcaster Ed Olczyk, as the newest inductees to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night. Modano lived up to his billing after being chosen with the first pick of the 1988 NHL draft. By the time he retired in 2011, the Livonia, Mich., native was the Stars' leader in games played (1,459), goals (557), assists (802) and points (1,359). He also holds franchise records with 145 playoff points in a club-high 174 games. Modano, who played his final NHL season with the Detroit Red Wings, leads U.S.-born players in goals (561) and points (1,374). Olczyk was taken with the No. 3 pick in the 1984 draft by his hometown Chicago Blackhawks and went on to play 16 years in the NHL after starting his career as an 18- year old rookie. Olczyk finished with 342 goals and 794 points in 1,031 games with Chicago, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Winnipeg Jets, the New York Rangers, the Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He returned to the Blackhawks for his last two years in the NHL and retired in Olczyk is now NBC's lead hockey game analyst. Lamoriello is entering the U.S. Hall of Fame as a builder, three years after his induction to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. "The Americans are here, if that's the way to say it, and here to stay in every way," Lamoriello said. Lamoriello's distinguished career started long before he joined the Devils and built them into perennial winners. With New Jersey, Lamoriello has earned three Stanley Cup championships in 24 seasons, and two other Eastern Conference titles -- including last season. Along with Modano, Lamoriello was also part of the U.S. team that won the gold medal in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Lamoriello served as the general manager of the American squad that beat Canada for the title. "We wanted to change what they thought of us as players, that we didn't belong at their level," Modano said. "It took a long time, but we always felt in the back of our minds that we could prove a lot of countries wrong, that we could play with them."

Since then, the United States has remained among the hockey elite. The Americans earned the silver medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and the 2010 Games in Vancouver. "After the `96 World Cup, the American player is here," Lamoriello said. "That's when they got recognized, and the way you get recognized is when individuals have success. That was a long time ago. Now there's nothing to distinguish." Before that, Lamoriello had a 22-year career as a player, coach and athletic director at Providence College. He was inducted into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 1982 and joined the Devils five years later. A big reason for the United States' development as a hockey powerhouse is how the game has spread at the youth level to many non-traditional areas, including Dallas, where Stefan Noesen was a first-round draft pick in 2011 by the Ottawa Senators, and Seth Jones is predicted to be one of the top five selections next year. Modano played a big role in that growth down south. "In hindsight now, it's been a real remarkable transition the way the game has increased down here," Modano said. "I'm real proud of being part of that when it first started and watching it evolve, see the popularity increase. It was great to see and it was fun to be a part of." Olczyk, a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, is also helping to grow the game now in his high-profile position on television. "I've just been really lucky throughout my entire career, and I've worn a lot of hats," Olczyk said. "I was a fan, I was a player, I was a coach, broadcaster and a dad, so on any given night, I can have one of those hats on. I love the game, and hockey has been my and my family's life." That dedication and commitment isn't lost on Modano, a teammate of Olczyk's in international competition. "Just a class guy, his approach to the game and professionalism," Modano said of Olczyk, his teammate in the 1991 Canada Cup. "He was a lot of fun to be around, so we've always had that connection since He's been remarkable for the game and on TV, and what he's done with NBC. He's our face and voice of USA Hockey, I feel." Also on Monday, Bob Chase-Wallenstein and Dick Patrick were presented with the Lester Patrick Trophy. Chase, who made his mark at WOWO -- a 50,000-watt station in Fort Wayne, Ind. -- has had a great impact on the careers of many current sports broadcasters, including Hockey Hall of Famer Mike "Doc" Emrick.

This year marks the 60th straight season that the 86-year-old Chase will do play-by-play on the radio for the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL. When he began calling games for the Komets in 1953, the Negaunee, Mich., native was three months removed from college at Northern Michigan. Dick Patrick is the third member of the Patrick family to earn this award named for his grandfather -- joining uncle Lynn Patrick and cousin Craig Patrick. Dick Patrick has helped hockey grow in the nation's capital during his 30 years with the Washington Capitals. Murray Costello was honored with the Wayne Gretzky Award for his work that helped the Canadian Hockey Association and the former independent Hockey Canada organization join forces to form the new Hockey Canada in After the merger, Canada won four of the next five gold medals at the World Junior Championship with Costello at the forefront. Costello also oversaw the formation of the Canadian women's team and the rapid development of the sport that paved the way for the debut of women's hockey at the 1998 Olympics. 6. At the time, Clarke became just the 23rd player in NHL history to reach the 800-point milestone. He would finish his 15-year NHL career, playing entirely for the Flyers, with 1,210 points, which is the most in Flyers history by over 300 points. 9 NHL Articles 1. NHL.com - Emotions in motion for Olczyk Mike G. Morreale Don't be surprised if Ed Olczyk becomes a tad emotional when he steps to the podium to talk about his induction into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday at the Plaza of the Americas Atrium in downtown Dallas. During his media availability prior the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Ceremony & Dinner, Olczyk was asked if he would be able to get through his speech without breaking down. Um, fat chance. "I cried when I signed my first contract with the Chicago Blackhawks back in 1984," Olczyk said. "I cried when my wife was walking down the aisle in August of '88. I cried when I played my last game in the NHL and cried when all my kids were born. I'm sure [Monday] will be no different, and I know for sure I'll be crying when I'm six feet under." Olczyk, the third overall pick of the Blackhawks in '84, enjoyed a 16-year professional career. He won a Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994 and also was the youngest player on the 1984 U.S. Team at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. "I'm proud to say hockey is all I know," Olczyk said. "I didn't know how to get to the NHL; I just wanted to play and I was able to do that. The game has given me so much. I've always wanted to give back to it, and to be able to do it as a broadcaster and the opportunities I've gotten at NBC and in Chicago, has been great. I knew at the end of my career that I wanted to continue to stay in the game on a lot of different levels." 2. NHL.com Like father, like son Mike G. Morreale DALLAS -- In a span of four months, not only did Ed Olczyk learn he would be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame alongside Mike Modano and Lou Lamoriello, but that his son Tommy would captain the ice hockey team at Penn State University in When Tommy got word that dad was the newest inductee into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, he was obviously filled with pride. He took the time to talk about his father with NHL.com on Monday prior to the ceremony this evening at the Plaza of the Americas Atrium in downtown Dallas. "It was awesome," he told NHL.com. "We were already so proud of him and all his accomplishments. Away from hockey, he's a great person and I've never had a better role

model. He's such an ambassador for the game of hockey and I really couldn't ask for anyone better to look up to." Those words of wisdom and advice from dad will certainly come in handy now with Tommy donning the captain's 'C' on his jersey. The Nittany Lions play an independent schedule this season before becoming the newest member of the powerful Big Ten hockey conference in "It's not all on-ice stuff," Tommy Olczyk said. "You have to lead the right way on the ice and off the ice. You have to go out and compete your butt off, work hard and play with an edge but respect the game. You can't be throwing cheap shots it works the same in the real world. You have to be nice to people and can't take things for granted. You have to appreciate every moment on and off the ice." Olczyk said that he was notified he would captain the team before the first practice earlier this month. He called his father after the two-hour session, but because word spread so quickly, the secret was already out. "He got a bunch of texts while I was on the ice [at practice] and he knew by the time I called him and he was proud," Tommy Olczyk said. Tommy played four seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers in the United States Hockey Leaguebefore joining Penn State's club team in , producing 24 goals and 52 points in 31 games. Tickets to Penn State home games at Greenberg Ice Pavillion have certainly been hard to come by and won't come any easier next season when the 6,000- seat Pegula Ice Arena is open for business. In , Tommy garnered the USHL's Curt Hammer Award, which is presented to that player who distinguishes himself both on and off the ice by demonstrating outstanding performance skills, pride and determination. Back in June, the 5-foot-8, 184-pound Olczyk joined his older brother, Eddie, at Carolina Hurricanes' rookie conditioning camp. Eddie is currently a senior at the University of Massachusetts. Ed Olczyk, who played in the NHL for 16 seasons and joins Mike Modano and Lou Lamoriello as part of the 2012 U.S. Hall of Fame class, is excited Eddie will have an opportunity to play at Pittsburgh's Consol Energy Center and Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center as a member of Penn State this season. After all, Olczyk is a former player and coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tommy has special memories being on the road with dad. "There was one time, when he was announcing for the Penguins, when he took me with him on a road trip in Minnesota," he said. "I helped work the locker room during the game with the equipment staff. I'm not sure how much I actually did, but it was really special because just going on a road trip with my dad was great."

3. NHL.com - Lamoriello recalls one of his greatest achievements Mike G. Morreale Lou Lamoriello admits one of his greatest experiences was helping the United States capture the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. "Winning the Stanley Cup and three of them is, without question, the highest honor and it's side by side with the 1996 World Cup with Mike [Modano] and the group we had there and the time we had there," Lamoriello said. "It was all about never letting each other down and we were going to find a way to win." As the general manager for Team USA, Lamoriello certainly had his work cut out. "It was a special time and challenge," Lamoriello told reporters just prior to his induction into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. "Personally, we had just come off the 1995 Stanley Cup and then not making the playoffs in '96. "The group of people we brought together for the World Cup -- coach Ron Wilson played for me at [Providence] College. Paul Holmgren has been a personal friend for a number of years and worked as the assistant. The late John Cundiff had been working for us in our organization. We took that whole staff to Providence, R.I., which was our training ground. We did everything there and just came together as a group and overcame anything." While Lamoriello said the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" raised the bar for hockey in America, it was the 1996 World Cup win that really got the American player noticed. "The '80 Team really got an opportunity to see what they could do, but the players in there, except for [Ken] Morrow never really had the [NHL] success that the 1996 players had," Lamoriello said. "Look at Mike [Modano] and at what he's accomplished. Mike Richter and Brian Leetch; there was a different result of what they did after. "Now, thinking back on the '80 Olympics and what they did with Herb Brooks and [assistant] Craig Patrick, that was looked at as a miracle," Lamoriello continued. "I don't think when you look back on the '96 World Cup Team that it was considered a miracle and that's the difference." 4. NHL.com - The growth of hockey in the U.S. is impressive Mike G. Morreale DALLAS, Tx. -- The growth of hockey in the United States is alive and well according to 2012 Lester Patrick Trophy recipients Dick Patrick and Bob Chase-Wallenstein.

"Hockey has grown tremendously the past 30 years or so," Patrick said. "When [U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductee] Mike Modano was coming up through the system, the best players in the United States were from Minnesota and Detroit, but now they're coming from all over, including Washington, California and Dallas." Modano can vividly recall the first time he learned how Americans were viewed overseas. "I didn't know the impact it had until I went to Moscow in 1987 to play in the World Junior Championship and see the impact, internationally, that we had and how people viewed American hockey players," Modano said. "That perception they had about us we were so young at the time that we wanted to change that perception. It was almost like the Europeans didn't think we belonged on their level. We always wanted to prove to other countries that we could play with anyone." 5. NHL.com - Modano thrilled to return to Dallas as Hall of Famer Mike G. Morreale Mike Modano still needs to pinch himself when told he'll be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in the city of Dallas. "It was great call to get from [USA Hockey] but then they told me they were having it [in Dallas] and I was shocked and taken back that they wanted to pick Dallas to do it," Modano said. "It meant a lot for them to pick this city and for me to feel that we've made this town and the game popular enough for Texans and people down South to be recognized." Modano received quite an ovation when introduced to the stage as one of the three U.S. Hall of Fame inductees on Monday by Master of Ceremonies Steve Levy. "We never really felt in our heart of hearts that hockey would move down here and thrive like it has and, in the process, turn [thedallas Stars] into one of the most successful franchises in the League," Modano said. "It's been a remarkable transition the way the game has changed in Dallas. It's been great watching the popularity and the way it has come together." Modano closed out his 21-year career as the Stars' all-time leader in games played (1,459), goals (557), assists (802) and points (1,359). He also holds franchise records with 145 playoff points in a club-high 174 games. He remains the all-time leader among U.S.-born players in goals (561) and points (1,374). "I was young at the time and really didn't think of any major goals, but I wanted to get drafted and then play in the League," Modano continued. "It's been great experience and, being so young, it helped a lot. We were able to educate the fans and we grew with the

game. It's been a real relationship with the fans and the city. We all thought, 'This could be real exciting and unique at the same time.' " 6. "Just a class guy, his approach to the game and professionalism," Modano said of Olczyk, his teammate in the 1991 Canada Cup. "He was a lot of fun to be around, so we've always

had that connection since He's been remarkable for the game and on TV, and what he's done with NBC. Murray Costello was honoured with the Wayne Gretzky Award for his work that helped the Canadian Hockey Association and the former independent Hockey Canada organization join forces to form the new Hockey Canada in After the merger, Canada won four of the next five gold medals at the World Junior Championship with Costello at the forefront. Costello also oversaw the formation of the Canadian women's team and the rapid development of the sport that paved the way for the debut of women's hockey at the 1998 Olympics. 7. TSN.ca MacKinnon, Jones rated at top of season s first ISS list TSN.ca Staff The International Scouting Service (ISS) has released its first set of rankings for the 2013 NHL Draft and highly touted CHL stars Nathan MacKinnon and Seth Jones find themselves in the top two spots. The 17-year-old MacKinnon has solidified his position at the top of the list with a quick start to his season, recording six goals and 17 points in 10 games with the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads. MacKinnon is the leading scorer on a Halifax team that sits first overall in the Quebec Major Junior league. Playing in his first season in the Western Hockey League, Jones sits one spot behind the Canadian-born centre. A 6-foot-4, 206-pound defenceman from Plano, Texas, Jones has recorded two goals and six points in 10 games this season, leading the Portland Winterhawks to first place in the U.S. Division of the league's Western Conference.

The top-ranked European skater is centre Aleksander Barkov of Tappara of the Finnish Elite League. Ranked third on the ISS list, the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder recorded seven goals and 16 points in 32 games with Tappara as a 16-year-old last season. He is now in his second year in Finland's top league. Rounding out the top five are forwards Sean Monahan of the OHL's Ottawa 67's and Curtis Lazar of the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings. 8. ESPN.com Agent: Taylor Hall to OKC for rehab Craig Custance An already loaded Oklahoma City Barons team is closer to getting even more offensive help.edmonton Oilers star forward Taylor Hall is heading to Oklahoma City to continue rehab on his shoulder and could arrive as soon as Tuesday, his agent Paul Krepelka said. Hall, who is on the injured reserve and currently getting paid during the NHL's lockout, had been skating with the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings. Krepelka said Hall should be cleared to play AHL games in a couple weeks after recovering from surgery to fix a labrum tear in his shoulder. He still needs to sign an AHL contract to officially join the Barons, where he'll eventually play with Oilers teammates Jordan Eberle,Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Justin Schultz in the AHL's most loaded team. "He's going to go down there and work out with them for a couple weeks until he feels good enough to get the clearance and the go-ahead," Krepelka told ESPN the Magazine. Since he wasn't assigned to Oklahoma City, Hall will have to sign an AHL deal which Krepelka said won't be an issue. One slight complication is that Hall will have to get insurance on his NHL contract. In August, he signed a seven-year, $42 million contract extension with the Oilers, one that won't be covered by Hall's AHL deal. Hall got the big contract after scoring 27 goals in 61 games last year, his second season in the NHL. "We'll have to go through the process of making sure he's adequately insured," Krepelka said. "He wants to play, he's a hockey player." 9. ESPN.com - Labor talks to resume Tuesday Pierre LeBrun Labor talks between the NHL and the locked-out players' association will resume Tuesday in Toronto, league deputy commissioner Bill Daly told ESPN.com on Monday. Both the NHL and the NHLPA also told ESPN.com that the four key figures in the negotiations -- league commissioner Gary Bettman, Daly and union bosses Donald Fehr and Steve Fehr -- plan to attend Tuesday's meeting.

The two sides met Wednesday and Thursday in New York, focusing again on secondary issues and avoiding the more troublesome core economic discussion. The lockout turned a month old Monday, the same day NHL players would have received their first league paychecks of the season -- had there been hockey. The lockout already has wiped out the entire preseason and the first five days of the regular season. A deal will have to be struck soon to prevent more cancellations and provide an opportunity to make up the lost games and have a full 82-game season. Daly estimated the NHL lost $100 million from the cancellation of the entire preseason and would be out another $140 million to $150 million with the regular-season losses. The NHL still says it is waiting for a new proposal from the union, with the owners adamant that players accept a significant drop from the 57 percent of revenue they received under the salary cap in the last contract. The players don't want what they consider more massive cuts at a time when the overall revenue pot reached record numbers ($3.3 billion) last year. 10. The News-Sentinel - Chase experiences perfect night in Dallas Blake Sebring Bob Chase's night at the USA Hockey Hall of Fame banquet was even better than his friends hoped for. The 86-year-old Komets broadcaster received the Lester Patrick Trophy for service to hockey in the United States on Monday night in Dallas. ``It had to be one of the most memorable moments in my life,'' Chase said. ``You don't move to those heights very often when you spend your life in a sport like this. I'm glad I'll have pictures to help me remember it all. This was top-of-the-mountain stuff.'' The award ceremony was the culmination of an exhausting few days for Chase, who started his 60th season with the Komets on Friday night, called the team's win in Evansville on Saturday and then flew to Dallas early Sunday morning. Along with his wife, Murph, Chase was joined by his daughter, Karin and her husband, Vic; his son, David; former Komet Terry Pembroke and his daughter Tara; protege and NBC broadcaster Mike Emrick; and Komets owner Stephen Franke and team president Michael Franke. ``What a night!'' Michael Franke said. ``We've been doing this for 23 years now, and for me this was probably the most unbelievable night ever. It was a tremendously humbling experience for Bob because of the gratitude so many people expressed to him. It was greater than I ever thought it would be to see the emotion expressed from everyone.'' Chase shared the honor with Washington Capitals president Richard Patrick, the grandson of the man the award is named for. The Hall of Fame inductees were former

Dallas Stars center Mike Modano; longtime player, coach and now broadcaster Eddie Olczyk; and New Jersey Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello. ``Lou Lamoriello started his speech by saying, `Bob Chase, I met you and your family last night,' '' Michael Franke quoted. `` `Your enthusiasm and energy are unbelievable. I need some of that right now.' '' Chase and Patrick were interviewed by ESPN's Steve Levy during an early portion of the dinner for 15 minutes. Chase choked up a few times, thanking his wife and mentioning a few friends from the past, but he made it through. ``What's that like where there are so many hockey fans in the country that are lovers of the sport because of the joy you brought to them?'' Levy asked. Part of Chase's answer included, ``I thought very, very seriously about the custodial responsibility I had, not only for the station but also for the sport I was broadcasting. I made many friends with hockey players, moms, dads, you name them, who used to sit and listen to me because their kids were playing in Fort Wayne.'' Levy later said, ``You young kids out there who want to be hockey broadcasters, my advice to you is whenever Bob decides to hang it up, don't be the guy who follows him! You never want to be the man following the man, you want to be the man following the man who followed the man.'' All of Chase's family and friends were stunned by the respect he received from all the dignitaries. ``It was a class act,'' Pembroke said. ``They treated Chase royally, and probably 40 percent of the crowd was all professional NHL people. The number of people who came by and said they listened to Bob Chase when they were growing up was almost overwhelming.'' Chase said he was a little surprised by the number of people who came up afterward to talk, thank him and get their picture taken with him. ``It was just the most enjoyable night,'' he said. ``The pomp and ceremony was pretty unrivaled. Having my name on the lips of a lot of pretty important people made me feel good. That was once-in-a-lifetime night, and I'm glad it happened to me.'' -FLYERS-

ESPN.com - Labor talks to resume Tuesday 10. The News-Sentinel - Chase experiences perfect night in Dallas FLYERS Articles 1.
