Anaheim Ducks Ducks get Stephane Robidas, trade Dustin Penner and Viktor Fasth By Lance Pugmire 7:00 PM PST, March 4, 2014 Depth has been a major reason the Ducks have the most points in the NHL, but as the playoffs near the emphasis has shifted to a tighter, tougher, more talented roster. Ducks General Manager Bob Murray thinned the forward ranks Tuesday by trading Dustin Penner to the Washington Capitals for a fourth-round pick, and sent that pick to Dallas for defenseman Stephane Robidas. Murray also resolved the goalie backlog by dealing Viktor Fasth to the Edmonton Oilers for a fifth-round draft pick this year and a third-round pick in "Depth is great, but it was getting in the way," Murray said. "That had to be cleaned up for the sake of the hockey team. "Too many people around, too much uncertainty, is not a good thing. I felt it had to be done." There might be one more move to make before Wednesday's trade deadline (noon PST). With players such as Vancouver center Ryan Kesler, Buffalo left wing Matt Moulson and Buffalo defenseman Christian Ehrhoff believed to be among their focus, the Ducks ( ) are now $2 million under the NHL salary cap of $64.3 million and could afford to add any of those players, based on their pro-rated salaries. An unrestricted free agent after the season, Robidas, 37, is close to full recovery from a broken leg that has kept him out of action since late November and said he should be playing within two weeks. Murray and Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau praised the veteran defenseman, who gives the team a right-handed shooter from the blue line. Six of the Ducks' other defensemen shoot left. "Right-hand shot, shut-down-type defenseman who plays hard that was one of our needs," Murray said. "I've always liked how hard he competes." Robidas proved that by battling Ducks star forward Corey Perry during the Stars' 2008 playoff series victory. "I'm going to do whatever it takes, wherever they want to put me," Robidas told reporters in a conference call. "I want to help this team win. I'm not a savior." Ducks defenseman Mark Fistric was a teammate of the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Robidas in Dallas before joining the Ducks last year. "Warrior, an in-your-face type guy on the ice, and any team that has him will be better," Fistric said. "His leadership is second to none. Very hard working, skill to go with it, tenacious, little fire rocket kind of guy. Huge competitor, never backs down." In his second stint with the Ducks, Penner was a healthy scratch six times as Boudreau labored to find playing time for his 14 forwards. In 26 games since Dec. 17, Penner scored three goals. The 31-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Penner had chemistry with close friends and first-line mates Ryan Getzlaf and Perry, but his presence forced such younger talent as Swedish Olympian Jakob Silfverberg and Kyle Palmieri (nine goals, 14 assists) to the bench. "We're here to win," Getzlaf said. "[Murray] rarely makes a move I don't agree with. We had chemistry, played well together, but it wasn't like we had a consistent line that's going to affect us mentally. Not a huge concern." Palmieri skated with Perry and Getzlaf at practice on Tuesday. Fasth won 15 games as a rookie in 2013, but was hampered by lower-body injuries and hasn't played since Nov. 18. In Edmonton, he's expected to be the starter ahead former King Ben Scrivens after the Oilers dealt goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to Minnesota on Tuesday. The deal secures Frederik Andersen (15-3) as the backup to Jonas Hiller, a day after Andersen was scheduled to board a flight to minor league Norfolk to make way for Fasth's return. Andersen, who saved 49 of 52 shots Sunday in a win over Carolina, maintained throughout Fasth's absence that he wanted to make Murray's decision to demote him difficult, and Murray said "this was not the game plan." His 2.12 goals-against average and.929 saves percentage are better than Hiller's. The deal also could mean the Ducks aim to re-sign Hiller, who is in the last year of his contract. "Sometimes, you feel you're at the shorter end of things, but the way the season has gone has definitely been in my favor," said Hiller (26-9-4). "I hope I can re-sign. I would hope this makes it more logical." LA Times: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Vancouver trades goalie Roberto Luongo to Florida received forwards Martin Erat and John Mitchell from Washington for forward Chris Brown, defenseman Rostislav Klesla and a fourth-round selection in the 2015 draft. LA Times: LOADED: Wire reports March 4, 2014, 11:05 p.m. NHL trade deadline day was widely expected to be busy. The day before might prove to be even wilder. Several big-name hockey players were on the move Tuesday, 24 hours before time for dealing runs out, including star goalie Roberto Luongo, who was ushered out of Vancouver and sent back to Florida eight years after he was sent packing. The Panthers, on their way to missing the playoffs for the 13th time in 14 seasons, dealt goalie Jacob Markstrom and forward Shawn Matthias to the Canucks for Luongo and forward Steven Anthony. Luongo is first in Panthers history in games played (317), single-season games played (75), career wins (108), single-season wins (35), and career shutouts (26). He also own single-season records for most saves, most minutes played, and consecutive scoreless minutes. Markstrom had been considered the Panthers' goalie of the future for several years. Luongo was the highest-profile netminder on the move Tuesday, but he was hardly alone as several goalies changed addresses in a flurry of trades. In fact, Luongo's arrival in Florida could prompt the Panthers to trade veteran Tim Thomas before Wednesday's noon PST deadline. Edmonton, which acquired Viktor Fasth from the Ducks on Tuesday, then traded veteran goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to the Minnesota Wild for a fourth-round draft pick this year. Minnesota General Manager Chuck Fletcher said the team must assume that neither Niklas Backstrom nor Josh Harding will be healthy enough to mind the net again this season. Rookie goalie Darcy Kuemper has played well, but the Wild needed depth heading into a stretch of 20 games in 37 days. Luongo seemed destined in his mind to stay with Vancouver because of his 12-year, $64-million contract. Now, with eight years left on his contract, the 34-year-old Luongo is headed back to Florida, where he has his off-season home. The Panthers were already active Tuesday before acquiring Luongo, sending defenseman Mike Weaver to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2015 fifth-round draft pick. The New York Islanders, well on their way toward missing the playoffs, started their sell-off by dealing coveted defenseman Andrew MacDonald to the Metropolitan Division-rival Philadelphia Flyers for a pair of draft picks and minor league center Matt Mangene. New York also was expected to deal veteran forward Thomas Vanek, who was acquired earlier this season from Buffalo. Vanek was scratched from the Islanders' lineup at Winnipeg at Tuesday night in anticipation of a trade before the deadline. In other deals, the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks acquired defensemen David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois from the Phoenix Coyotes for a second-round draft pick this year; the Ottawa Senators traded forward Jeff Costello to Vancouver for defenseman Patrick Mullen, who was then assigned to Binghamton of the AHL; and Phoenix

Anaheim Ducks Ducks pick up Robidas, deal Penner and Fasth March 4th, 2014, 11:39 am posted by ERIC STEPHENS Published: March 4, 2014 Updated: 7:25 p.m. ANAHEIM -- Maybe the Ducks' Bob Murray is true in claiming that he isn't swayed by what other Western Conference contenders have done or will do ahead of Wednesday's NHL trade deadline. But the general manager of the NHL's top team wasn't going to sit idly by. Murray took a big cut and connected with a flurry of deals Tuesday -- and might be ready to take an even bigger swing. The Ducks acquired veteran defenseman Stephane Robidas from Dallas and sent left wing Dustin Penner to Washington and goalie Viktor Fasth to Edmonton in separate transactions. And they may not be done. It is believed that the Ducks are trying to acquire Vancouver center Ryan Kesler, whom they would like to form a one-two punch in the middle with Hart Trophy candidate Ryan Getzlaf. Other possible options are Buffalo's Matt Moulson and the New York Islanders' Thomas Vanek. But Kesler is seen as their clear top target. The price would be steep but the Ducks have several young forward prospects along with two first-round and two second-round picks in the draft this June. Murray said Tuesday that "there's never a final move." Kesler leads the Canucks with 21 goals and was in their lineup Tuesday night against Phoenix. He has two years remaining on his contract at $5 million per season, something the Ducks can fit within their budget. It would be quite a response to St. Louis picking up goalie Ryan Miller and gritty winger Steve Ott last week, though Murray said "what other teams do have no effect on me whatsoever." "This answer gets boring to you guys but the phones are still ringing and I m still making calls," Murray added, speaking generally. "As is every other general manager in this league. And I have no idea what the next [few] hours is going to bring. I have no idea. "We'll keep working and if I can make a hockey deal that makes sense and makes this hockey team better, we will do it." The Ducks essentially swapped Penner for Robidas as they acquired a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft from Washington and then sent it to Dallas for Robidas, a 14-year veteran known for his toughness and ability to eat up minutes on the blue line. The fourth-round selection will turn into a third-round pick for the Stars if the Ducks advance through two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs. "We had set a goal, and I told you guys before, that if I can get a right-hand shot defenseman, a sort of shutdown-type of guy that plays hard, we were going to try to accomplish that," Murray said. "That was one of our needs. Murray added that he's "always liked how hard he competes, how hard he plays" and that Robidas "can do more than shut down." Robidas, 37, is in the final year of a deal that carries a $3.3 million salary cap figure and can be an unrestricted free agent in July. The Ducks picked up added cap room by dealing Penner ($2 million) and Fasth ($2.9 million). Murray said Robidas is expected to report Thursday. Robidas spent the last nine full seasons with Dallas and, counting an earlier stint, played in 11 years with the Stars. "I called Dallas home," Robidas said. "I ve been here for a long time. But having a chance to join a team of the quality that Anaheim has, I m very, very excited. I talked to their GM, and we re going for a Stanley Cup. Orange County Register: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Whicker: Ducks add a blood brother in Robidas BY MARK WHICKER SPORTS COLUMNIST mwhicker@ocregister.com Published: March 4, 2014 Updated: 8:19 p.m. As Boston's Patrice Bergeron can attest, Stephane Robidas will make the Ducks a tougher team to play against. The club with the NHL s best record was leery about disrupting its molecular structure. It made a trade Tuesday that likely solidified it. The Ducks got Stephane Robidas, a defenseman who turned 37 on Monday, is recovering from a fractured tibia and fibula and who has five points in 24 games this season. He s probably my favorite teammate, Sheldon Souray said. The only thing he cares about is winning. Yeah, you hear a lot of players say things like that, try to pump up a guy s tires, but I played alongside him. He will do anything to win. Among the most appreciative Ducks will be Corey Perry, whose skin is too thick to let anyone underneath. With Dallas, Robidas rose Perry s blood pressure for years, particularly in the 2008 playoffs when the Stars ousted the defending Stanley Cup champions in the first round. He kind of likes playing against the big players, Ryan Getzlaf said. He battles hard down low. I used to watch Perry and him go at it a lot. Some of the top players, they can feel entitled at times, Souray said. Against some teams they feel they should get the free pass. There s never been a free pass as far as Robidas is concerned. Robidas knows what the price is, too. In that 08 series, he dove to stop a clearing pass by Todd Marchant and caught it right in the nose. It was not a new feeling, since Robidas first nose fracture came when he was 17, but it still spilled blood on the ice. Some of that blood was still on Robidas jersey when he came back for a power play, not very much later, with Kleenex stuffed into what was left of his nasal passages. The next day Robidas went to a coffee shop in Dallas and someone looked at his hanging nose and asked if he was a hockey player. A lot of people ask me that, Robidas said. And in the clinching Game 6, Robidas scored on a rebound and made a sweet pass to Stu Barnes for the winner. Afterward, Dallas coach Dave Tippett stood behind Robidas in the handshake line and later said he was moved to hear how the Ducks complimented him. I was just looking at all the hashtags about Robidas on Twitter just now, Souray said. Stuff like #OneToughHombre, #OneToughSOB. When you play with a guy like that it makes everybody play harder. He made smart plays, made good passes, didn t try to do too much. But when it came time to hit somebody or to fight, he would do that, even though he s only 5-foot-11. Robidas wants a Stanley Cup, but there were times when he couldn t have drunk from it. Another flying puck broke his jaw in 2009, but he finished that game, too. Jordin Tootoo dealt him a concussion in a fight. This broken leg might have been the worst. Robidas skate got stuck near the wall, in Dallas, and he needed a rod in his lower leg. He was told he would be out from 4-6 months, but he was doing all the drills in Dallas and is shooting for March 14. This is what you do when you are a seventh-round draft pick and when you shuttle from Montreal to Dallas to Chicago, which then basically invited him to choose another profession after the lockout. I m not a savior, Robidas said Tuesday. I know I m going to a very good team. I m not a finesse player, but I hope I can add something to their defense. In effect, the Ducks gave up Dustin Penner for Robidas, although Penner wound up in Washington. This way, maybe Jakob Silfverberg and Kyle Palmieri don t have to pick a number and wait for ice time, at least not as much. And Robidas is accustomed to big minutes and the big Western lines, centered by Joe Thornton, Anze Kopitar, Zach Parise, etc. He also is acquainted with Dallas, which is a possible first-round opponent for Anaheim. The trade deadline comes at noon Wednesday. Ryan Kesler, Vancouver s center of distemper, is supposedly in the next Care package. Kesler is a faceoff-winning, penalty-killing zealot who would give Anaheim the best set of four centers in the league. Kesler also has a no-trade clause and might cost the Ducks a future cornerstone such as Emerson Etem or Sami Vatanen. These are good decisions to make because they are made from first-place strength. But even the team that has everything could find a place in its foxhole for Stephane Robidas. Orange County Register: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Ducks deal Penner, pick up Robidas... more to come? BY ERIC STEPHENS / STAFF WRITER Published: March 4, 2014 Updated: 8:10 p.m. The acquisition of Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars gives the Ducks a tough, veteran defenseman for the playoffs. GREGORY SHAMUS, GETTY IMAGES DUCKS LOADING UP? WHO THEY GOT Defenseman Stephane Robidas, from Dallas for a conditional fourth-round pick in Robidas, 37, hasn't played since breaking his leg Nov. 29, but is expected to be ready in two weeks. The 14-year veteran, known for his tough defensive play, could be part of a shutdown duo with Francois Beauchemin. WHO THEY DEALT Left wing Dustin Penner to Washington for the conditional fourth-round pick used to get Robidas. Penner had 13 goals and 19 assists in 49 games after signing a one-year, $2 million deal last July. Goalie Viktor Fasth to Edmonton for a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a third-round selection in Fasth was limited to five games this season because of lower-body muscle issues, and Frederik Andersen's strong play made him expendable. WHO THEY MIGHT GET The Ducks are believed to be in discussions to obtain center Ryan Kesler, who leads Vancouver with 21 goals and has two more years on his contract that'll play him $5 million each season. ERIC STEPHENS ANAHEIM Maybe the Ducks' Bob Murray is true in claiming he isn't swayed by what other Western Conference contenders have done or will do ahead of Wednesday's noon NHL trade deadline. This answer gets boring to you guys but the phones are still ringing and I m still making calls, Murray added, speaking generally. As is every other general manager in this league. And I have no idea what the next (few) hours is going to bring. I have no idea. We'll keep working and if I can make a hockey deal that makes sense and makes this hockey team better, we will do it. The Ducks essentially swapped Penner for Robidas as they acquired a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft from Washington and then sent it to Dallas for Robidas, a 14-year veteran known for his toughness and ability to eat up minutes on the blue line. The fourth-round selection will turn into a third-round pick for the Stars if the Ducks advance through two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs. We had set a goal, and I told you guys before, that if I can get a right-hand shot defenseman, a sort of shutdown-type of guy that plays hard, we were going to try to accomplish that, Murray said. That was one of our needs. Murray added that he's always liked how hard he competes, how hard he plays and that Robidas can do more than shut down. Robidas, 37, is in the final year of a deal that carries a $3.3 million salary cap figure and can be an unrestricted free agent in July. The Ducks picked up added cap room by dealing Penner ($2 million) and Fasth ($2.9 million). Murray said Robidas is expected to report Thursday. Robidas spent the past nine full seasons with Dallas and, counting an earlier stint, played in 11 years with the Stars. I called Dallas home, Robidas said. I ve been here for a long time. But having a chance to join a team of the quality that Anaheim has, I m very, very excited. I talked to their GM, and we re going for a Stanley Cup. That s what I ve been waiting for, for a long time. I think it s a great opportunity for me, and I m very excited for the chance the Ducks are giving me. The club also sent goalie Viktor Fasth to Edmonton for a fifth-round selection this year and a third-round pick in That clears the way for Frederik Andersen to remain in Anaheim as the backup to Jonas Hiller. Fasth had played in just five games with the Ducks this season because of lower-body muscle issues. He had completed a four-game conditioning stint in the American Hockey League, but Andersen's stellar play forced the club's hand. Some days in this job, things are (bad), Murray said. And today, that's a (bad) one. Because Viktor's a class act and a great guy. He battled to get back. This year didn't go the way I expected it to as far as my goaltending. And it came down to the point now where... you've watched Freddie Andersen play. I don't need to say anything else. The trades were made Tuesday morning shortly after Fasth and Penner had jumped on the ice for practice at Honda Center. Minutes later, the two came off and were soon packing up their equipment. Andersen, who has gone 15-3 in 19 games backing up Jonas Hiller, had prepared for a cross-country flight to join the Ducks' AHL affiliate in Norfolk (Va.), but got word from the team that Fasth had been dealt. It feels like they show they have a little confidence in me and Hillsy going forward, Andersen said. Nice to be staying here. But the key acquistion is Robidas, who has been out since Nov. 29 because of a broken leg suffered in a game against Chicago. Murray said Robidas has been cleared by team doctors and could be playing within the next two weeks. This makes our team more difficult to play against, Murray said. There's no doubt. Go ask our forwards in there. They didn't enjoy playing against this guy. The Ducks brought back Penner last summer on a one-year deal worth $2 million to re-ignite chemistry that he had with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. Penner had 13 goals and 19 assists in 49 games. Moving Penner, who'll be a free agent at season's end, opens up more ice time for Kyle Palmieri and Jakob Silfverberg. Both have been scratched often because of the logjam up front. Depth and everything is great but it was getting in the way, Murray said. And the opportunity came along. It was basically one UFA (unrestricted free agent) for another UFA. It's unfortunate for Dustin. He worked hard and played hard here. Got his weight down. I wish him nothing but the best. Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said he never had issues with Penner and his bouts of inconsistency. Penner had four assists in his past five games but had just four goals and five assists in 25 games after Dec. 6.

With our abundance of forwards, I thought it made it easy but it's never easy, Boudreau said. He got 13 goals for us. Played on the big line. He'll do great in Washington. Orange County Register: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Ducks get Stephane Robidas, deal Dustin Penner and Viktor Fasth in separate deals By Elliott Teaford, Daily Breeze Posted: 03/04/14, 5:35 PM PST Updated: 17 secs ago The NHL-leading Ducks acquired veteran defenseman Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars and traded enigmatic left wing Dustin Penner to the Washington Capitals and backup goaltender Viktor Fasth to the Edmonton Oilers in a series of bold moves Tuesday. The deals are a sure sign the Ducks are all-in in their pursuit of the Stanley Cup championship. Robidas will make their defense corps all the more difficult to play against while dealing Penner and Fasth was designed to trim roster duplication. The Ducks sent a conditional fourth-round pick in the June draft to the Stars to acquire Robidas. They also acquired a fourth-round pick in June from the Capitals for Penner and a fifth-round pick in June plus a third-round selection next year from the Oilers for Fasth. I don t know him very well, but I do know we didn t like to play against him, Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said of Robidas, 37. He s a warrior who is always in our faces. We couldn t get away from him. He s a veteran presence who works his rear end off. Or as general manager Bob Murray put it while meeting with reporters outside the team s dressing room after Tuesday s practice at the Honda Center, This makes our team more difficult to play against. Just go ask any of our forwards. Not to be overlooked was the fact that Robidas is a right-handed shot. Six of the Ducks top seven defensemen are left-handed, which limited Boudreau s flexibility at times. Robidas also is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at season s end. Robidas has been sidelined since breaking his right leg Nov. 29 against the Chicago Blackhawks. He was expected to be sidelined for four to six months, but he said during a conference call that he hoped to make his Ducks debut within two weeks. It s huge for me, Robidas said of joining the Ducks. I m not getting any younger. You want to have a chance to win the Stanley Cup. I m not a finesse player. I know my role. I know what I have to do. I m not going to change. I m going to be the same player. I think that s why they got me. Robidas has 246 points (55 goals, 191 assists) in 871 games in the NHL. He s best known for agitating opposing forwards, however, and has had several run-ins with the Ducks Corey Perry over the years. Robidas has five points, including four assists, in 24 games this season. I m glad he s on my team now, Robidas said of Perry, the Ducks leading goal-scorer with 32. Penner played with varying degrees of effectiveness while skating on a line with Perry and team captain Ryan Getzlaf. Penner also was a healthy scratch at times during his second stint with the Ducks. He had 32 points, including 13 goals, in 49 games this season. Kyle Palmieri skated in Penner s spot alongside Perry and Getzlaf during Tuesday s practice and Boudreau indicated it would be Palmieri s job for the foreseeable future, starting with tonight s game against the Montreal Canadiens at the Honda Center. Fasth played only five games this season and was sidelined since suffering a lower-body injury in November. Frederik Andersen made the move to trade Fasth possible by going with a 2.12 goals-against average as Jonas Hiller s backup. The trade deadline is today at noon. The phones are still ringing, I m still making calls, as is every other general manager in this league, Murray said. I have no idea what the next 24 hours will bring. I have no idea, and we ll keep working. If I can make a hockey deal that makes sense and makes this hockey team better, we will do it. LA Daily News: LOADED:

Boston Bruins Krejci scores 3 for Bruins in 4-1 win over Florida By DOUG ALDEN / Associated Press / March 4, 2014 David Krejci s third career hat trick couldn t have come much easier. Krejci scored twice while all alone in the slot, then added an empty-net goal with 14 seconds remaining of the Boston Bruins 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. I didn t think I had another option, Krejci said when asked about his reputation to set up teammates for empty-netters instead of shooting. I also knew I had two goals already, so why not go for it? Jarome Iginla added a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who kept former Boston goalie Tim Thomas busy all night with 39 shots on goal. The Bruins welcomed back Thomas, who may be saying goodbye to Florida after a series of deals general manager Dale Tallon made to retool the struggling Panthers lineup. The biggest move was bringing back goalie Roberto Luongo in a trade with Vancouver, leaving the Panthers for the moment with the two goalies from the 2011 Stanley Cup finals. Thomas, the 2011 Conn Smythe Trophy winner after the Bruins beat Luongo and the Canucks in seven games, said he needed to speak with Tallon before commenting on his future and whether he would consider waving his no-trade clause if the Panthers asked. I've got to see the situation and see what they re thinking, Thomas said. That s something that hadn t been really discussed up until this point. Thomas showed why a contender may be interested in the 39-year-old, making 35 saves. He allowed three goals before Krejci scored in an empty net. Defensively, we weren t very good, Florida coach Peter Horachek said. And there were a number of people that didn t compete. If you have that, you don t have consistency of your whole group, then you re going to run into problems. Boston backup goalie Chad Johnson had a much quieter night, facing 24 shots as the Bruins beat Florida for the seventh straight time. Johnson had a shutout until Florida defenseman Brian Campbell lifted a high backhander from the blue line toward the net. The puck deflected off Boston defenseman Matt Bartkowski s stick with 7:13 left. The Bruins scored twice in the first period, then took a 3-0 lead on Krejci s goal with 48 seconds left in the second. Kevan Miller fed a pass to the slot to Krejci, who stood all alone and had enough time to set up a wrist shot that beat Thomas on the stick side. Thomas also had little chance on Krejci s first goal after defenseman Tom Gilbert s turnover next to the net. Krejci grabbed the puck, faked Thomas into going down and lifted a wrist shot in. The Bruins scored again when Thomas allowed a long rebound off a shot by Jordan Caron and the puck bounced to Iginla at the opposite circle for a one-timer. Thomas was on the bench, pulled for the extra skater as the Panthers tried to rally, when Krejci completed the Bruins first hat trick in more than two years. Krejci was also the last Boston player to score three goals in a game, doing it against New Jersey on March 1, David has always been a pass-first kind of guy, but he s got a good shot, Boston coach Claude Julien said. I think his approach this year has been a little bit more about shooting. Notes: Johnson has won six of his last seven starts, with the only loss coming in overtime at Buffalo last week.... The Bruins improved to since the Olympic break.... Florida last beat Boston on March 15, In addition to the Luongo deal, the Panthers also traded defenseman Mike Weaver to Montreal for a fifth-round draft choice in 2015, and signed forward Brad Boyes to a two-year contract extension.... After Boston s second goal, Thomas skated to the Panthers bench and switched masks after starting the game with a nondescript black helmet with a cage. Boston Globe LOADED:
