1 Track and Field Awards & Points Information It is the aim of Little Athletics that children should compete for their own enjoyment and self- improvement, as well as a sense of belonging and team involvement that can be fostered by the Club system. After much discussion, the Committee and your Club Delegates concluded that the points system used for many years placed too much emphasis on performance and not enough on participation and improvement. They also agreed that we had too many awards and that our good athletes often collected multiple trophies. The change in our timing and recording software provided us with an excellent opportunity to streamline the points system, give greater emphasis to improvement and participation and reduce the number of trophies awarded. A dual points system will be used to determine award winners for the Track and Field Season. 1. BEST ATHLETE AGE GROUP AWARD/AGE GROUP CHAMPIONS/ATHLETES OF THE YEAR The GLAC BEST ATHLETE AGE GROUP AWARD will be made for each Age group (except U6 & U7), both boy and girl, for performances in track and field events. These awards will be based on each athlete s best three (3) performances in each event. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each Age Group Points will be calculated using the Timing Solutions Performance Based Linear/Straight Line (PBLSL) point scoring method. A maximum and minimum result for each Age Group/Gender/Event was determined. The maximum points possible for each performance is 100, the minimum is LAVic Victorian Best Performances (State Records) have been set as maxima for each U9 U15 event. Since State Records do not exist for U8 and U16 athletes maxima were calculated from these data. The minimum for each event was determined from a study of Centre results for the past two years and will ensure that every performance will achieve a positive score. 2. PERSONAL BEST AGE GROUP AWARDS The GLAC PERSONAL BEST AWARD will be made for each Age group (except U6 & U7), both boy and girl. This award is made to enhance the aims and objectives of the participation and personal involvement. These awards will be based on points scored from all performances in track and field events. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each Age Group. Five (5) points will be awarded for each Personal best achieved and, One point will be given for attempting an event. The Awards in both categories will be made to the boy and girl athlete for each Age group with the highest points earned from all performances during the season. Club awards are presented to the Top Club and the Most Improved Club for team performances over the Track and Field season. Points are awarded to Clubs for all completed events. The winners will be calculated using the total points scored by all Club members in both the Personal Best Award and Best Athlete Award and awarded on a pro rata basis. The Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the Junior and Little Athletes earning the most PBLSL points during the year. Other individual trophies are awarded for outstanding performances in individual disciplines Junior and Little Athletes, the best record and for participation and sportsmanship. A trophy sub-committee has been formed from members of the Centre Committee to determine the award recipients. GLAC AWARDS

GLAC Personal Best in Age Group: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Boy and Girl in each Age Group. GLAC Long Service Award: Athletes who have competed from Under 6/7 to Under 15 or Under 8 to Under 16. Athletes in the under 12 to 16 Age groups are known as Junior Athletes, with the term Little Athletes being used for those in the under 11 and younger Age groups. Cross Country Individual trophies are also presented for performance over the Cross Country Season. Line Honours trophies are awarded to the athletes with the most number of line victories over the season. Age Group Champions awards are presented to athletes in each age group on a points based system. Athletes must compete for a minimum 6 runs to be eligible. Results for the best 7 local performances over the season are used to calculate the winner, runner up and third place positions. All athletes that complete the minimum 6 local runs are presented with a participation award. Certificates are awarded to athletes who compete less than the minimum 6 runs. Number of runs trophies are presented to those who complete 25, 40, 60 and 80 runs. Medals are awarded to first 3 places of each age group at the annual Open Day and to the first 3 places in each distance at Handicap Day each year. A Club Trophy is presented each year.
