2 State Relays Juniors U8-11 Sat 18 November Seniors U12-17 Sun 19 November Championships Officers Report Claudia Smith As team manager at State Relays, I had the rare privilege of being right in the thick of things and I saw many great things that made me proud of our club. We sent 76 teams and all age groups were represented. All our athletes tried their best and 7 teams came home with medals. The weekend began with U10 and U11 events and before we knew it, the U11 girls jumps team won silver and the U11 boys jumps team won bronze. Later that day the U11 boys backed up with a silver in the throws relay. A bunch of very excited U8 athletes made their first appearance at State relays and they all did an amazing job. The U8 girls throws team even won a bronze medal. The seniors competed on the Sunday and they are nothing if not consistent. For the second year in a row, the U12G throws team won silver and the U15G jumps team won gold and set a new State record. The U15G 4x100m team also won bronze, slipping back from the silver they won last year. This relay team provided the drama of the day when they were nearly disqualified in the heats at relay change 3. But the judges gave it the all clear and the team moved on the finals. It was so good to see our athletes giving their all. Their faces showed determination as they tried to claw back places on the track or visualise their throw or jump. They should all be very proud of their efforts. I would like to give a big thanks to the parents. We had to provide 18 parent helpers over the weekend and the roster filled up very quickly. Special thanks to the parents who stayed until the end to complete their duty and to the parents who helped at events that were assigned to other centres. What a great example you are to the children. Oliver Smith U12B competing in the U12/U15 Middle Distance Relay
3 Oh What A Gold Feeling! Talented trio Alyssa Lowe, Portia Amy Wilson and Tarsh Wayne (U15G Jumps Relay team) brought home a gold medal for a third successive year. Not only did they secure GOLD but they also broke the State Record for the jumps relay for the second year in a row. CONGRATULATIONS girls for such an outstanding achievement. Ryde Athletics is most excited and proud of you. Check out the girls and our medallists in the November issue of TWT - pg 34

8 U8 Girls Throws Team Report Bronze lists Sophia Read I remember standing up for my first throw of the Discus and I was very nervous. Julie the lady that helps out with coaching of shot put was one of the judges that day for discus and she winked at me but I accidently threw a fowl for my first throw but I kept on thinking believe in yourself Sophia and you can do it, After my next 2 throws I was throwing very far and I nearly threw 11 metres and I felt very proud. My team Emi, Cara and I won the bronze medal. We were so happy. I love athletics, Ryde is a fun, friendly and amazing club. Emilia Webb Sophia, Cara and I made a great throw team in the U8 Girls for the State Relays. Sophia and Cara did an awesome job in Discus and I got to do my best in shot put. We loved getting on the podium and receiving our medals it made us feel very proud and happy. Thank you to Julie for coaching the three of us and we can t wait for zone carnival. Cara Calder-Pirie I was so happy to be taking part in State Relays as part of the throwing team with Sophia and Emilia. I threw discus and my 2nd throw was my best and when our team came third and had to go to the pofdium for a medal I danced on the step. That was a great day. U8G Winning Debut Throws Team - Emilia Webb. Sophia Read, Cara Calder Pirie
9 U11 Boys Throws and Jumps Report Silver and Bronze lists Report by: Andrew Kalos On Saturday, 18 November, 2017 Ryde Little A s participated at State Relay and I was part of the U11 boys jumping and throwing field teams. As part of the jumping team my event was long jump. Although I was nervous I tried my best hoping that my effort would help my team towards receiving a medal. My teammates JK Raupe, who did high jump and Owen Chandler, who did triple jump and I were super excited when it was announced that we had come third and received the bronze medal. I had to settle my excitement though because I still had to do my throwing event. I did shot put, JK did Javelin and Max Mayhew did discus. My challenge was to not get a foul and after my third throw I was in second place. When the final results were read out over the speakers we were proud to hear the silver medal go to Ryde. It was an awesome feeling and when we received our medals we got to see ourselves on the big screen, which was really cool.
