The four-day meet begins on Wednesday at 1 p.m. (CT), on Thursday at Noon (CT), on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) and on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (CT). Head Coach Gary Pepin s squad will be well represented, as NU earned 17 bids with a total of 19 Huskers making the trip to Eugene. This year s championships will air on ESPNU and ESPN with additional content streaming online at ESPN3.com. Nikita Pankins, Ricco Hall, Antoine Lloyd and Cody Rush ran a season-best at regionals to clinch a 4x100 spot, while the 4x400 team of Rush, Drew Wiseman, Levi Gipson and Jake Bender also ran a season-best 3:06.02 to win its regional heat and qualify automatically. The 4x400 team is coming off a sixth-place finish at last year s Outdoor Championships and back-toback runner-up finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Two members of those relays - Hall and Wiseman - also qualified in individual events. Hall will compete in the 200 meters after running at regionals. Wiseman posted a PR in the 400-meter hurdles to earn his first nationals bid in an individual event. White s outdoor season-best of 7-2 1/2 (2.20m) came at regionals, while Bartel has cleared 7-1 1/2 (2.17m) at the past two meets. The Husker women will send one high jumper, two long jumpers and three triple jumpers to Eugene. Senior Marusa Cernjul is back at outdoor nationals for the first time since her freshman season after battling injuries the past two years. Cernjul has cleared 6-1 1/4 (1.86m) this season to rank tied for seventh nationally. In the long jump, Tierra Williams and Jazmin McCoy will both compete at nationals for the second straight year. McCoy was sixth last year and a first-team All-American, while Williams was 21st. Finally, the Huskers most stacked event is the women s triple jump where Ellie Ewere, Mollie Gribbin and Danielle Jones will all compete. Ewere is the Huskers top returning performer from last year s outdoor meet, as she placed fifth and was a firstteam All-American. Gribbin was at nationals last year, but in the long jump, while the Omaha native Jones will compete at nationals for the first time. Pole Vault Preview Grand Island native Steven Cahoy heads to nationals after clearing through /2 (5.35m) in the pole vault at regionals. Cahoy also made indoor nationals this year for the first time in his career. His top outdoor clearance this season of /2 (5.40m) is tied for 15th in the nation. Throws Preview Will Lohman makes a repeat trip to nationals in the hammer throw after finishing 18th a year ago. Lohman threw (65.79m) at regionals this year and enters with the 12th-best regional mark in the field. Lohman is the school-record holder in the event with a throw of (65.89m) earlier this season. He will also compete in the shot put, as he qualified with a throw of 61-4 (18.69m). Nick Percy will make his first trip to nationals in the discus after registering a throw of (55.69m) to place ninth at regionals. On the women s side, Sarah Firestone will compete at nationals for the first time in the javelin. Firestone recorded a throw of (49.95m) on her last attempt at regionals to finish fifth. The result boosted the Husker men to a tie for 13th in the final team standings with 14 points. The finish is the best indoors for the Husker men since a tie for fifth in The Huskers blitzed to a 3:04.83 in the final race of the night to trail only Texas A&M s collegiate record 3:02.86 in the same heat. Jake Bender, Cody Rush, Levi Gipson and Drew Wiseman s time of 3:04.83 topped last year s record race of 3:05.69 by almost a full second. The Husker men s 4x400 has now earned a top-eight finish at each of the past three NCAA Indoor Championships, joining Arkansas as the only other school to do so. The Husker men won an indoor conference championship for the first time since 2007 in the Big 12. It s the second overall Big Ten title for the Husker men, as they won the 2013 outdoor title. Oladapo Akinmoladun (60m hurdles) and James White (high jump) won individual B1G titles. Since 2000, Pepin s squads have combined to win three B1G team titles, 19 Big 12 team titles, 25 individual B1G titles, 143 individual Big 12 titles, 20 individual NCAA titles and have finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships 12 times. Pepin s remarkable success has not gone unnoticed, as he was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame in Pepin also was named the 2005 USTCA Indoor Midwest Region Coach of the Year for the men and women, as well as the men s outdoor coach of the year the same season. At the conference level, Pepin either won or shared Big 12 Conference Coach-of-the-Year honors a remarkable 21 times. He also was honored as the 1995 National Indoor Track Coach of the Year by the USTCA, and earned NCAA District 5 Women s Coach of the Year in 1995 and A native of Pittsburg, Kan., Pepin graduated from Pittsburg State University. He received his master s degree from Kansas in He is married to the former Jean Ann Frank of Pittsburg, and they have three daughters, Heidi, Lisa and Michelle, and five grandchildren, Carter, Blue, Landon, Millie and Scout.
