1 RUNNERS & SWIMMERS GUIDE Welcome Thank you for taking part in The Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run and Cole Classic presented by Virgin Active on Saturday & Sunday the 4th and 5th of February This event aims to raise $150,000 for more than 800 Australian charities. The following guide has been split into 3 sections; pre-race, race day and post-race to provide you with all the important information you need for the event. Good Luck! Pre-Race RACE PACK COLLECTION If you entered Sun Run and purchased postage as an optional extra during registration, you should have now received your race bib. If you have not yet received your race bib, please contact us at sunrun.coleclassic@ fairfaxmedia.com.au If you did not purchase postage for Sun Run or entered Cole Classic, you can collect your race bib from one of the Race Pack Collection points. Thursday, February 2 from 7.30am-6.30pm Westfield Sydney, Level 6 Concierge Suite (Sun Run and Cole Classic) Friday, February 3 from 12pm-7pm Royal Far West, enter via South Steyne, Manly (Sun Run and Cole Classic) Saturday, February 4 from 8am-2pm Adjacent to the Manly Life Saving Club, Manly Surf Pavillion, South Steyne (Cole Classic) Sunday, February 5 from 6am-12pm Adjacent to the Manly Life Saving Club, Manly Surf Pavillion, South Steyne (Cole Classic) We encourage all Cole Classic participants who are collecting their Race Pack on Sunday morning to arrive at least 1 hour prior to their start wave time. This is to ensure all participants have adequate time to collect their Race Pack, warm up and get into their start wave in time. To see a list of start wave times, please click here. Please be sure to bring a copy of your eticket or SMS on your mobile device to make the process as quick as possible. If you are for any reason unable to attend, a friend or family member can collect on your behalf. Find out more from our website. ENTRY TRANSFERS Person to person transfers are not available for this event. MERCHANDISE, ITABS & SMS RESULTS To help you make the most of your race experience, we have special merchandise offers and products available. Why wait to find out your finish time, when you can have it sent straight to you by SMS as soon as you have crossed the finish line? 2 Sun Run Race Day TRANSPORT Public Transport We encourage all participants to use public transport where possible. For public transport service information and to plan your trip please visit the Transport Info website and click on Plan Your Trip or call The closest bus stop to the start line is the major junction at Dee Why on the corner of Pittwater Road and Howard Avenue. STA will be running additional services from Coogee, North Bondi and Wyndard please visit the Transport Info website for bus schedules. STA buses run every minutes from the Belgrave St bus stop in Manly to Dee Why. Uber If you are a new Uber rider use the code SRCC17 to sign up to Uber and receive $20 off your first trip. Existing Uber riders can get 20% off their total fare to the start line in Dee Why. To claim this discount use code SWIMRUN17. This code will only be valid for trips dropped off in Clyde street, Dee Why on event morning. Parking There are limited car parking spaces available in the Manly Precinct and the majority are paid parking lots, metered or limited by time. We would advise all competitors to catch public transport where possible. ROAD CLOSURES The Spit Bridge closes to traffic at 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30am on the morning of the race. Check the RMS website for any further changes. Start times & locations Sun Run BUS STOP PITTWATER RD DEE WHY PARADE DYSLSC to enter into this group. No pushed wheelchairs or strollers are permitted. Green Start: Joggers, walkers, fun groups and pushed wheelchairs & strollers who aim to complete the course within 110 minutes. 7km 7:25 am Yellow Start: For runners who aim to complete the course in sub 45 minutes. 7KM PARTICIPANTS START AREA Purple Start: For joggers, walkers, fun groups, pushed wheelchairs and strollers. Due to the limited space available on The Strand, 7km runners will fill into the start pens after the runners have cleared the area. This will be from 7:05am. RACE DAY ETIQUETTE Only seeded runners are allowed to warm up in front of the start line. Please do not push to get over the line, the timing tags ensure that you record an accurate start time based on when you cross the line. In order to receive an accurate time, runners should ensure that bibs are clearly visible on the front of the torso and not covered in any way please do not bend or fold your bib. Listen to the announcers for important last minute instructions. The use of ipods and other music players while competing has inherent risks and as such Fairfax Events discourages their use by competitors. Please get to your start line at least 30 minutes prior to your allocated group start time. Remain to the left on course unless overtaking. GEAR DROP There will be a gear drop service available for the Sun Run. Gear dropped at the start line will be transported from Dee Why to Manly. Sun Run Location: Dee Why Parade near the entrance to the beach car park Gear drop opens: Saturday 5:45am Gear drop closes: Saturday 6:25am Pick up: Pick up of gear will be available at the finish village, next to Manly Life Saving Club ENTRY TO GREEN START AREA ENTRY TO PURPLE & BLUE START AREA 7km DEE WHY First Aid Toilets Bus You will be given a see-through bag at the gear drop area. Write your bib number on the outside of the bag with the markers provided. Individual items only may be placed within the bag, such as a change of clothes, lightweight jacket, water bottle and post-race snacks. Show your bib when leaving your bag with the gear drop volunteers. After your run show your bib to collect your bag HOWARD AVE ENTRY TO YELLOW & RED START AREA Drink Station Gear Drop 7km Race START 7km Participants No access to start pens prior to 7:05am Course Start Times Start Group 6:45 am Seeded: For runners who aim to gain a place in the top 10. Pre-qualification is required for this Start Group. Red Start: For runners who aim to complete the course in sub 60 minutes. Pre-qualification is required for this Start Group. No pushed wheelchairs or strollers are permitted. The Sydney Morning Herald Blue Start: This Start Group is the first open group with no qualifying time required. Participants wishing to run or jog the length of the course but have no prior race time are encouraged

You may potentially be putting your own health, and the health of fellow runners, at risk if you do so. 7 km Course Course RAGL AN ST SYDN EY RD TH ST TWOR WEN DE PARA ORIA VICT First-Aid stations are located along the course. They will provide immediate assistance and if further assistance is required, such as transportation to hospital, costs are incurred by the patient. CORSO F Toilets will be located at both the start and finish lines. Water and Science in Sport electrolyte will be provided along the course and at the finish area. LIFE SAVING CLUB Please remember to hydrate before, during and post event. It is recommended that all participants wear sunscreen and a hat. 4 Cole Classic Race Day Start times & locations TRANSPORT Please ensure you arrive with plenty of time as it is a 1km walk from Manly LSC to Shelly Beach where the start will take place. Race briefings will take place 30 minutes prior to race start time. Public Transport We encourage all participants to use public transport where possible. For public transport service information and to plan your trip please visit the Transport Info website and click on Plan Your Trip or call Distance Start Time Manly Beach is best accessed by public transport. The ferry and bus stops are located only minutes walk from the beach promenade. 5km 7.45am Uber If you are a new Uber rider use the code SRCC17 to sign up to Uber and receive $20 of your first trip. 1km 8.00am 2km 10.30am Parking There are limited car parking spaces available in the Manly Precinct and the majority are paid parking lots, metered or limited by time. Water taxis A water taxi shuttle between Rose Bay and Manly will be available on Sunday, February 5, The special event cost for Cole Classic participants is $15 each way. If you would like to book a seat on the taxi, please call Water Taxis Combined on and ask for the Cole Classic water taxi from Rose Bay to Manly and specify the time for both trips. You can also book online by following this link and selecting the Cole Classic event. Please note, bookings are required If your preferred travel time is fully booked, Water Taxis Combined will contact you to make other arrangements. The service will also pick up and drop off from Watsons Bay upon request. RACE DAY PREPARATION CHECKLIST Please ensure you have the following before heading to the start line; visit Race on the day for any assistance. Please be wearing your coloured swim cap. Have your timing chip attached to your ankle with the supplied velcro strap. Have your yellow wristband displaying your race number around your wrist. After your race, there will be tubs located at the finish line. Please remove your timing chip and ankle strap and place them in the tubs provided. Any lost or misplaced timing chips and straps will incur a replacement fee. RACE DAY ETIQUETTE In order to receive an accurate time, swimmers should ensure that their tags are securely strapped to their ankle. Listen to the announcers for important last minute instructions. Please arrive at the marshalling area at least 30 minutes prior to your allocated wave start time. CAN I WEAR A WETSUIT OR FLIPPERS? Budgy Smuggler swimwear is definitely permitted! Organisers will allow participants to wear wetsuits, flippers and fins ONLY in the back of the pack categories to ensure fair competition. Wearing any of these items prohibits swimmers from claiming a place/prize.

5 GEAR DROP Please note there is no gear drop located at Shelly Beach. All competitors will need to leave their gear at the gear drop adjacent to Manly LSC and then walk around to the start at Shelly Beach. NO personal bags of any description (backpacks, purses, handbags) will be accepted. Do NOT leave any valuables such as wallets, keys or phones. No responsibility will be taken for valuables or clothing that are lost or damaged. You will be given a see-through bag at the gear drop area. The volunteers will allocate you a number and write this on your arm as well as on a plastic bag Individual items only may be placed within the bag, such as a change of clothes, lightweight jacket, water bottle and post-race snacks. After your swim, show the number on your arm to collect your bag from the same location Cole Classic Location: Next to Manly Life Saving Club, close to Race Gear drop opens: Sunday 6:45am Gear drop closes: Sunday 12:30pm Pick up: Pick up will be available at the same location where gear was dropped. FRESHWATER QUEENSCLIFF BAY QUEENSCLIFF BAY F REPORTING INCIDENTS Should you injure yourself while at the event please report this as soon as possible to event personnel which includes security guards, water safety, volunteers or event organisers; alternatively you can contact the event information line ALTERNATE COURSE MAP The Race Committee will conduct a conditions assessment on the morning of the event and if Manly beach is considered too dangerous for the swimmer to enter, then the contingency will be implemented for swimmers to finish at Shelly Beach. If you see any potential hazards at the start, finish or on course or any bags or suspicious packages that are left unattended, please notify event organisers as soon as possible. WATER SAFETY Water safety patrols are carried out by Surf Lifesaving Club members from Manly LSC and nearby Surf Lifesaving Clubs who crew inflatable rescue boats, all with radio communications. In addition, Surf Lifesavers on rescue boards, rescue skis and in surf boats will accompany swimmers along the course. Medical doctors will also be in attendance. For more information about the Cole Classic course please click here. RACE CANCELLATIONS The race organisers reserve the right to cancel the race due to rough or dangerous conditions. In the unfortunate event of cancellation, there will be no refund of entry fee or re-run of the event. A decision will be made ASAP on race day and broadcast via the website and social media channels. Post Race
