Further details can be obtained by contacting Mike Scott on BOOK REVIEW IF IT S TUESDAY IT MUST BE TOOTING by STAN ALLEN This book brings together Stan s recollections of training sessions at Tooting Bec and tales of athletic trips both home and abroad. It is written in his inimitable style with many illustrations by Geoff Harrold. There is even a photograph of Stan in his younger days, but don t let that put you off as there are plenty of stories that will raise a smile. Many pieces refer to activities familiar to those involved at the grass roots level and with many set in a Surrey context they should ring a few bells with readers of SCAN. Topics covered include Medal Mania or Trophy Typhoid, Always Injured, The Road Race Cynic and Injury of the Month Award. The 40-page A4 publication is available from Heath Technical Services, 6 Sandfield Gardens, Thornton Heath, Surrey CR7 8AR priced at p&p. 11 The chart below shows the number of pages viewed each month. These figures represent a 69% increase on the figures for The trend for peaks at certain times suggests that the site is used for retrieving results of County championships with January (Main Cross Country), May (Track & Field) and October (Cross Country Relays and Vets Cross Country) showing the largest values. In SCAN 37 I reported upon the introduction of a Championships Database. This has now been extended to include results back to It is also possible to search for performances by a particular athlete which not only shows performances at County Championships but also, where appropriate, performances at Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games. As an example, it possible to see for Jade Johnson how she has progressed through participation in the Surrey championships to the World Championships and, potentially, the Olympic Games. For athletes such as Gordon Pirie the search will show his performances at 3 Olympic Games and 1 European Championship - the data for County Championships in 1950s has not (yet!) been loaded. HELP REQUIRED - 2 Compiling the Championships Database described above requires the extraction of results from past championships. I have been unable to locate a full set of results for the Surrey Indoor Championships for either 1996 or If you have a copy of these results that you would be willing to loan me then I would be grateful.
