Brian Organisering van die run uitmerk van die roete, maak en opsit van roete aanwysers, die haan wat gekraai het baie moeite en tyd het hier ingegaan. Antonie Die bystaan van Brian in bogenoemde Support stasies ELKEEN wat n support stasie beman het. Chris Bemanning van klubhuis, omsien na al ons runners wat klaargemaak het. Almal wat gehelp het met voorsiening van die padkos Ons vrae dat al die GMiles moet probeer betrokke wees by geleenthede. Dis regtig awesome! Hi All GMilers, I think at this stage you might be the fittest you have been in a while, combined with the fact that the grass at your house is very long, gutters are blocked and you have not seen your other half for almost 5 Months. Comrades training and preparation is almost at its end, with only two more long runs on the program and then full taper kicks in from the 20th May Congratulations firstly to those who had completed their 60km Comrades run on Sunday, it was a tough mental preparation and the route provided for the right decent down hills to simulate the Comrades effect that field's hill will have on you. The route also had it climbs with elevation being 882m in total, compared to the 1200m you will get to Botha's Hill and beyond. I am delighted to see that we had some really hard runners yesterday that took this challenge on to prepare well for Comrades. Our next last Comrades workshop that will include all the groups Novices and Rowans, will be held on the 22 may 2018, this workshop we will discuss the bring along to Comrades and how to prepare for the start and the logistics of the race. You have 5 weeks left until Comrades, if you missed the long run, be sure to make the most of the last two available at the club up until the 20th May. Please note these are all voluntarily and no one is forced to attend. You must decide if this falls in you training and or commitment. We also had the Wings for Life race this Sunday, and we have a great amount of GMilers attending, with the most distance covered by a GMiler being 27km and achived by Carla Strauss, last years record still stands at 35km. Maybe next year it will be beaten!!! watch the space. Also thank you to E3 Minning who made this possible for our Athletes to Compete. So athletes with the next race being the Jackie Meckler 25km, its normally a great run, with no significant hills, the entry is R136 though...dress warm this race is somewhat colder than other races. Also take into consideration the 25km run on Sunday as well, if you don't want to do a back to back. So all wishing you all a great week ahead. Kind regards Mr G LET S RUN... 7 N u u s b r i e f 1 7 v a n P a g e 7 CHAIRMANS CHIRP Beste Green Mile vriende, Groot komplimente aan die Comrades atlete wat die Comrades longrun suksesvol voltooi het, daar was 12 GM ysters wat 42km plus gedoen het, asook 4 van ons gaste op die dag wat suksesvol was. Saam met dit het baie van ons vriende ook korter aftsande gedoen op die dag, baie dankie vir jul deelname en deel wees. Soos reeds genoem.opreg dankie aan Kaptein Brian vir die roete, en aan so baie van ons vriende wat gehelp het met die relings rondom die long run. Ook aan al ons vriende wat n hele paar ure van hul Sondag opgeoffer het om te kom help by die waterpunte, ons almal het dit opreg waardeer. En Ja, die Comrades long runs is nou uiteindelik verby, en is daar nou hopelik fokus nou op tapering. Baie sterkte almal met die laaste dae wat voorle. Aan al ons ander vriende, ek vra opreg onverskoning vir die fokus laaste paar weke op Comrades, en as ons ander vriende dalk effens verwaarloos gevoel het. Onthou asb ons weeklikse TT s, en die gazebo Saterdae by wedlope cater vir almal, en hoop ons altyd om soveel moontlike van ons vriende daar te sien. Dankie ook weer opreg aan Johan van E3 Mining vir die Wings sponsor en relings in die verband. 8 N u u s b r i e f 1 7 v a n P a g e 8 Some important info.. Part 1 - The Start Lindsey Parry: So the Down Run has a bit of a unique start, it is a difficult start. It takes you a long time to get over the start line but even more important than that is that Pietermaritzburg is quite a sleepy hollow, it s a small town. It only has a couple of access points and one of those is closed because that is the road you re going to be running out of Maritzburg on it. You ve effectively got two ways in and you ve got thirteen, fourteen thousand runners plus their families that are trying to get to the start line. So, my first bit of important advice around the start is to make sure you get there really early. The second thing people need to understand is that people think you re coming to Durban, it s warm all year round but Maritzburg is pretty chilly in the morning. It s not freezing cold but the average minimum temperature that time of the year is around 4 degrees (Centigrade) so one extra layer of clothing should do it but again you want to get into that area nice and early. Make sure you can get your stuff to the tog bag area and then get into your seeding pens. That then takes me back to the first point that it takes a while to get over the start line. So if you have earned a D seeding, make sure you get there early enough to get into your D seeding pen and you don t get forced to go and start right at the back because 15 to 20 minutes before the race starts they will drop the barriers between the starting pens and the whole race jams up. To recap, get there early, dress warm and make sure you re nice and relaxed and in your seeding pens in time. *************** TO BE CONTINUED.. RUNNING TIPS. Many runners hold tension in their upper body, which can make your regular run feel twice as hard. Try this simple trick to check yourself: Roll up a sheet of paper and run with it for a few minutes (as if you were holding a baton in a 400-meter relay). If the paper comes back crunched, you are squeezing too hard! Allowing your hands to loosen up translates into reduced tension in the shoulders and less wasted energy.
