Non-profit environmental education organization, Sound Experience, provides hands-on education in a non-competitive environment. The noncompetitive environment fosters cooperation, teamwork, and leadership skills to young people, as well as at-risk youth. SPIKE AFRICA Homeport: Friday Harbour Year Built: 1977 Rig: Schooner Rigger Length Overall: 82 Beam: 15 Draft: 7.5 Description: With the intention of creating the ultimate working schooner, Bob Sloan built Spike Africa in Since then, she has been used as a freighting and charter schooner on the west coast, Mexico and Hawaii. She combines the functional elegance of the 19 th century coastal schooners with unobtrusive touches of modern luxury. Spike Africa has also starred in films such as Joe vs. the Volcano with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, and TV shows including Baywatch and Hotel. Every part of the boat has been renewed, replaced or upgraded since

This restoration project will refurbish this charming 1050 s pleasure craft, typical of an era of simplicity elegance and quality. Merrilee II will be a floating ambassador for the Britannia Heritage Shipyards Society (BHSS) at regional boat shows. LIGHTSHIP 1 Homeport: Steveston, B.C. Year Built: 1999 Titan Boats Sydney, B.C. Yamaha Outboards Speed: 40 knots Description: The Lightship I is one of Vancouver Whale Watch s zodiac fleet. Operating out of Steveston this RIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable) carries 12 passengers with a crew of 2. A typical whale watch will travel through the Gulf and San Juan Islands on a 3 to 5 hour tour depending on where the whales are. The boat is equipped with a washroom and fully outfitted with the latest in electronics including AIS, Radar, Twin plotters, and 4 radios for communication. RIVER QUEEN Homeport: Steveston, B.C. 3 Speed: 5 knots Description: The River Queen is a 65 passenger Life Boat which has been converted over to a Passenger Day Tour Boat. It operates daily in the summer months from the Fisherman s Wharf in Steveston. The tour is a leisurely and fascinating 45 minute fully narrated nature and historical tour of Steveston and Cannery Channel. PROVIDENCE (Formerly known as: Valkyrien, Ruth, Kis, Lone, Y340, Lisbeth-Vig) Homeport: Victoria, BC Year Built: 1903 Rig: Gaff Ketch Length Overall: 80 Hull: Holz / Wood Beam: 17 Draft: 9 Power: 170 H.P. Volvo Penta Description: The Providence was built and launched at Frederikshavn, DK by N. Nielsen & Son in 1903, since then the ship has been bought, renamed and sold several times. In 1943, during WWII, it was taken over by the Germans and flew the German flag until it was sold to the Danish Government s Ministry of Defence. The Royal Danish Navy used the vessel for defence purposes until it was transferred to the Danish Maritime Home Guard. Having changed hands since then, she now works as a Canadian Coast Guard passenger certified ship, offering daily charter cruises and longer trips in British Columbia coastal waters. 4 Description: Originally launched in 1964 to successfully compete in schooner races in Nova Scotia under the name William A Moir. Under various different sailors she raced, chartered, and whale watched on the east coast and Great Lakes. In 2005 she was brought over to the west coast by truck. Over the next couple of years, she was re-fit and renamed Maryke Violet. Finally, a successful circumnavigation of the South Pacific where she once again proved her speed and strength. She now spends her days attending schooner races and enjoying her new waters of desolation sound. SILVER ANN Homeport: Steveston, BC (Britannia Shipyard, National Historic Site) Year Built: 1968 Length Overall: 39 Draft: 4 Description: The Silver Ann was built in , and was the last boat constructed at the Britannia Shipyards, inside the Richmond Boatbuilders building. This gillnetter was built by S. Asari for George Osaka, in the year of his 25th wedding anniversary (the silver anniversary), which is why she is named the Silver Ann. In 2001, she was acquired by the City of Richmond and was sent to be restored at the Richmond Boatbuilders Building. She is believed to still have her original engine. For the Silver Ann, history has come full circle in more ways the one. Clint Osaka, one of the volunteers who helped to restore her, is the great nephew of George Osaka, her original owner. IMPERIAL DOCK The B.R. HASTINGS Homeport: Richmond, BC Length Overall: 34 Beam: 10 Draft: 2.5 Description: This Titan 300 Cabin RHIB is named after long time Richmond Search and Rescue volunteer Barry Hastings. With a top speed of 40 knots, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue volunteers crew this vessel when it responds to distress situations in the Fraser River and the Strait of Georgia. Members go through extensive training before they qualify as SAR crew. In addition, the volunteer organization contributes hundreds of hours annually in support of boating safety in our community. 5 Rig: ACV Length Overall: 93.5 Beam: Speed: 60 knots Description: The AP1-88 Dash 400 is an air cushion vehicle (AVC) which travels on a fan generated cushion of air with propulsion provided by two variable pitch propellers. The ACV is equipped with a removable crane and has a payload of up to 25,000kg which allows vehicles to be transported on the deck. There is a crew of 7, consisting of 2 pilots and 5 rescue specialist/divers. Station is staffed 24 hours a day and is supported by an Engineering Department of 6. Duties include; Search and Rescue, Aids to Navigation, Pollution Response, Fisheries Patrol and Enforcement, and other tasks as required. FRASER GUARDIAN Homeport: Richmond, BC Year Built: 1994 Rig: Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat Length Overall: 24 Description: The Richmond RCMP Vessel is a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat called a Zodiac Hurricane. The Fraser Guardian allows the Richmond RCMP to have a uniformed Police presence on the waterways which surround the City as well as responding to marine related calls of service, and also includes vessel safety checks, involvement in marine community events, and the enforcement of various Federal and Provincial Acts and Regulations. SSS ODYSSEY Homeport: Tacoma, Washington Rig: Topsail Schooner Length Overall: 88.7 Draft: 10.8 Beam: 18 Power: Detroit Diesel, 671, 160 Horsepower Speed: 10.6 knots Description: The Sea Scout Ship Odyssey was built in 1938 for the Vanderbilt family in City Island, N.Y. By 1942, she was acquired by the US Navy to find German U boats. The Boy Scouts Sea Scout program purchased her for $1.00 at a Navy Surplus auction in For over 32 years this vessel has been training youth how to navigate, maintain, repair, helm and sail a large wooden boat. 5

6 JIMMY NG Homeport: Richmond, BC Length Overall: 28 Beam: 10 Draft: 3 Description: This Titan 249 Delta RHIB is named after fallen RCMP officer Jimmy Ng who volunteered with Search and Rescue in his hometown of Richmond. With a top speed of 40 knots, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue volunteers crew this vessel when it respond to distress situations in the Fraser River and the Strait of Georgia. Members go through extensive training before they qualify as SAR crew. In addition, the volunteer organization contributes hundreds of hours annually in support of boating safety in our community. SEA SCOUT SHIP 11, CHARLES N. CURTIS Homeport: Tacoma, Washington Year built: 1931 Rig: Motor Vessel Length Overall: 78 Beam: 14.6 Power: Twin 6-71, 20kw generator, 30kw generator Speed: 12 knots Description: Built in 1931 as a United States Coast Guard Patrol Boat, the Charles N. Curtis was originally used to chase rum runners during the Prohibition. In 1946, the Mount Rainier Council purchased the vessel for $ The Charles N. Curtis became a licensed commercial vessel in the 1980 s, and now serves the community by training youth in Character, Conduct and Leadership using both marine related programs and services projects to help them grow and mature as adults. ORCA CLASS PATROL VESSELS Rig: Patrol Craft Training Vessel Length Overall: Beam: 28 2 Speed: 20 knots Draft: 2.6 m Description: The Canadian Navy s Patrol Craft Training Section operates eight ORCA Class Patrol Craft Training (PCT) vessels which support training courses held by the Naval Officer Training Centre, Canadian Forces Fleet School Esquimalt, Naval Reserve Divisions and Pacific Region 6

7 Cadets. The vessels were built at Victoria Ship Yards and were delivered to the Navy between 2008 and The total complement is for 24 personnel: 4 officers and 20 sailors. Each vessel is capable of mounting a 12.7mm M2 machine gun with other small arms. The vessels are also fitted with an array of modern navigation and communications equipment. The mission of the PCTS is to provide cost-effective training platforms in support of navigation and seamanship training. Three of the fleet s vessels will be on display at Ships to Shore SEA DRAGON SEA SCOUT GROUP Homeport: Richmond, BC Year Built: 1982 Rig: Slope Class LOA: 27 Beam: 9.2 Draft: 4.3 Power: Universal Atomic 2 Cylinder Marine Diesel Hull Speed: 5.5 knots Description: The yacht is original built by Capital Yachts - Newport Yachts in California, U.S.A. The Sea Dragons use it for all the "Deep Sea Expeditions" which are required for the Sea Scouts to achieve their Chief Scout Award, Queen's Scout Award, Duke of Edinburgh Awards (Bronze, Silver and Gold levels). The yacht is also used for able Sea Scouts' navigation and sailing skill training. SS VIRGINIA V Homeport: Lisabeula, Vashon Island Year Built: 1922 Rig: Steam Ship Length Overall: 125 Hull: Wooden Beam: 24 Draft: 8 Speed: 14 knots Hull Speed: 10 knots Description: Before Washington State s highway system was established, water transport was essential to commerce and public transportation in Puget Sound. The hundreds of small, independent, privately owned vessels of the "Mosquito Fleet" were built and operated to meet this need. Virginia V is the last surviving wooden-hull, steam-powered, passenger vessel on the West Coast, and the last of Puget Sound's famed "Mosquito Fleet" steamers. In 1981, a non- 7

8 profit organization called the Steamer Virginia V Foundation was created in order to preserve this one-of-a-kind artifact. Their mission is to preserve and operate the Virginia V in perpetuity. The organization operates the vessel as a living museum out of Seattle s Lake Union Park. 8
