1 40 TROFEO SAR PRINCESA SOFIA MAPFRE The, 34 Palma International Week for Olympic, Paralympic and invited classes will be held in the Bay of Palma from 4 th 10 th April 2009, both inclusive. 1. RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the racing rules of sailing. 1.2 Competitors with Spanish nationality or legal residence in Spain shall also comply with the prescriptions of the RFEV to such rules 1.3 Appendix P, Immediate Penalties for Breaking Rule 42, will apply. 1.4 Limitations on number of sails shall comply with Class Championship Regulations, if any. 2. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY The regatta is organised by the Consorcio Regata S.A.R. Princesa Sofía. 3. ADVERTISING 3.1 Except for the Dragon Class (Category A) participants may display Category C advertising in accordance with ISAF Rule In accordance with rules 20.3 (d) (i), 20.3 (d) (ii), boats shall display at all times a sticker with the event sponsor advertising MAPFRE and ISAF SWC provided by the Organising Committee. 4. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRIES 4.1 The regatta is open to events chosen for the 2012 Olympic Regatta and the 2012 Paralympic Regatta Olympic & Paralympic Classes:

Men and mixed teams are not eligible to compete in Women s events. Women are not eligible to compete in Men s events. 4.5 In the Paralympic events, only IFDS classified sailors only will be eligible to compete. 4.6 Nationality requirements: Any competitor in the regatta must be a national of the country of the Member National Authority which is entering him/her or which he/she represents, unless he/she can produce IOC Executive or ISAF Executive approval that he/she can represent another country. At the registration, any competitor must be prepared to produce evidence of his/her nationality. This requirement does not apply to a crew member when: the person in charge (under Racing Rule 46) is a national of the country he/she represents; and at the registration, the person in charge produces a formal approval from the MNA he/she represents that this crew member is allowed to compete in the regatta. 4.7 The Organising Committee establishes a minimum of ten boats entered in the keelboat classes and twenty in the remaining classes for the celebration of the Trophy in such classes. 4.8 Each athlete shall be registered as an ISAF Sailor on the ISAF website: 5. Paralympic classes 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd place in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. 5.2 REGISTER Registration online shall be made at before hrs on 16 th March Only VISA full entry fees payment will be accepted. The entry fees for any cancelled event will be returned. 3

COMPETITION FORMAT Competition format For Olympic and Paralympic classes: From 5 th to 9 th April a 10 races (15 for 49er) series will be scheduled. On 10 th April the Grand Final will be sailed. For invited class (Dragon): The competition format will be fleet races with 10 races scheduled. The courses to be sailed will be described in the Sailing Instructions. Fleet races will be sailed. Classes with more than 50 entries may be split. When a class is split into groups, the Class will sail qualifying rounds on Sunday 5 th, Monday 6 th, Tuesday 7 th and final rounds on Wednesday 8 th and Thursday 9 th. On Friday 10 th the Grand Final will be sailed. In the qualifying rounds the boats will be regrouped, if possible, after each day s racing. From Wednesday 8 th a Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald group will be established. All Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald groups will compete on Wednesday 8 th and Thursday 9 th (Final round). On Friday 10 th the top 10 placed boats will advance to the Grand Final. 7. INTERNATIONAL JURY There will be an International Jury approved by ISAF. Their decisions shall be final in accordance with rule

MEASUREMENT Olympic and Paralympic classes Boats, sails, rigging and crews must be at the disposal of the Measurement Committee at their respective clubs from 10:00 hours on 4 th April to 11:00 hours on 5 th April Invited class (Dragon) Boats, sails, rigging and crews must be at the disposal of the Measurement Committee at the respective club from 10:00 hours on 4 th April to 19:00 hours on 5 th April SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing instructions will be available at the moment of registration. 10. THE COURSES The courses will be Windward/Leeward or Trapezoid. Any other courses adopted by ISAF for the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition may be used. 12. PENALTY SYSTEM 12.1 The Two-Turns Penalty under rules 44.1 and 44.2 will apply unless the class rules state that the One-Turn Penalty under rules 44.1 and 44.2 will apply. 13. SCORING For invited class (Dragon): RRS Appendix A and the Low Point Scoring System will apply. For Olympic and Paralympic classes: For fleet racing: At least 5 races shall be completed to constitute a series. When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boats series score shall be 6

7 the sum of her race scores. When 5 or more races have been completed, a boat s series score shall be the total of her race scores, excluding her worst score. The Medal race shall be scored double points and cannot be excluded. For group racing: At least 4 qualifying races shall be completed by all groups in an event before going to final round. The Organising Committee reserves the right to change the Scoring System and it will be announced in the Sailing Instructions. 14. SUPPORT BOATS Each support/coach is required to register at the Race Office prior to the 11:00 Sunday 5th April and will receive boat identification, provided by the Organisation, which shall be displayed at all times while on the water. All support boats will be required to carry a VHF radio. Channels will be indicated in the Sailing instructions. 15. BERTHING AND HAUL-OUT RESTICTIONS Star, Dragon and Paralympic classes shall not be hauled out during the regatta, except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the race committee. 16. PRIZES For Olympic and Paralympic classes: There will be trophies and for ISAF SWC medals for the top three classified in each class.. Only Olympic and paralympic classes are eligible for the Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia MAPFRE Absolute Winner Trophy. The rules for the absolute winner of the Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE will be published in the Sailing Instructions. For invited class: Trophies for the top three classified will be awarded. 17. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY All those participating in this regatta do so under their own risk and responsibility. The Organising Committee or any person or body involved in the organisation of the event rejects any responsibility whatsoever for any losses, damages, injuries or inconveniences that may occur to persons or things, both ashore and afloat, as a consequence of the participation in the races covered by this notice of race. Attention is drawn to Fundamental Rule 4, Decision to Race, RRS Part 1 which establishes: 7

8 "The responsibility for a boat s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone. 18. INSURANCE Each crew must hold third party liability insurance with a minimum amount cover of 1.500,000 Euros. The document shown shall be the original issued by the insurance company. 19. RIGHT TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS In participating in ISAF SWC series and the Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE, a competitor automatically grants to the Organising Authority and the sponsors of ISAF SWC series and Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition for the said ISAF SWC series and Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the said ISAF SWC series and Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE without compensation. 20. MEDIA RIGHTS, CAMERAS AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT Boats may be required to carry cameras, sound equipment or positioning equipment as specified by the Organizing Authority of each regatta. Athletes may be required for interviews at the 40 Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE. 21. FURTHER INFORMATION 21.1 ACCOMMODATION The Organising Committee together with Ultramar Express travel agent has established special hotel rates indicated in the accommodation form attached. DEADLINE FOR BOOKINGS: Before 22 nd March 2009 PAYMENT OF TICKETS: Maximum 10 days before the first departure All bookings not complying with these deadlines shall not benefit from the special rates applicable to the 40 Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - MAPFRE. TICKET BOOKING AND PAYMENT PROCEDURE a) Fill out the booking form (one Transport form for each car and trailer to be transported) and send it to Acciona Trasmediterranea-Palma de Mallorca before 22 nd March 2009, via fax or jaimebl@trasmediterranea.es b) Wait for reception of the Transport form with the booking confirmation and rate. c) If booking and rate accepted, resend the transport form by fax or indicating the credit card number and signing the acceptance of payment. d) Wait for reception of the Transport form with the confirmation of issuing of tickets. e) Present the Transport form at each Port of boarding where you will be provided with the corresponding boarding cards TRAINING Crews wishing to travel before the dates of the regatta for training purposes must request so in writing to their corresponding Club. The Club will inform them of the costs involved and will confirm the authorisation for training.
