2 Module Outcomes: Review Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) Review Action Steps

3 EOP Purpose/Background The school emergency operations plan is a guide to preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a wide range of crisis situations that could occur in school settings. Plan is built upon the emergency management process. Designed to provide a framework for emergency operations at CLES.

4 Drills Evacuation Drills (Fire Drills) 6 Unannounced Drills: Lockdown Shelter-in-place (2) Evacuation Reverse evacuation Duck, Cover, and Hold On Next Evacuation Drill: October Duck/Cover/& Hold On Drill: TBD They must be run at various times both during and after school hours.

5 Building Evacuation This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Fire Chemical accident or release (in the school) Explosion or threat of explosion. Post earthquake Other occurrences that might make the school buildings unsafe

6 Reverse Evacuation This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Criminal activity Violence Pending severe storm.

7 Off-Site Evacuation This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Flood Fire Hazardous Materials Incident Any other situation that may render the site unsafe

8 Duck, Cover & Hold This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Earthquake Explosion Terrorism incident Tornado or other types of severe winds Other situations that may cause significant structural damage

9 Lock Down This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Criminal activity Extreme violence Shots fired Active Threat

10 Modified Lock Down This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Criminal activity MODIFIED Violence

11 Shelter - in - Place This action is appropriate for, but is not limited to, the following: Hazardous Materials Releases Nearby fires Bioterrorism Chemical Terrorism Severe storms, such as high winds, tornadoes, hurricanes

12 ALL - Clear This ACTION is used as the final ACTION to conclude on-site: Evacuation Reverse Evacuation Duck, Cover and Hold Lock Down Modified Lock Down Shelter-in-Place

13 Buddy Teacher System 1. Teachers in adjacent or nearby rooms will be assigned as buddies. 2. After an incident and classroom status check, buddy teacher's check with each other to: a. determine each other s health status, b. assist with injuries, c. stay with injured students, etc. 3. If necessary, one buddy teacher will evacuate both classrooms. 4. Each classroom Emergency Folder should contain teacher s class roster as well as the buddy classroom s roster.

15 Student Release Procedures Guardian completes Student Release form & shows ID Runner walks student(s) to release gate and student is matched with guardian.

16 Safety First! Be Diligent! ASK QUESTIONS! Let them be BUZZED in! DO NOT prop door open! Check for badges!

17 Action Steps Side doors - students assigned jobs and staff reminded to check doors as they are walking around the building Additional morning duty added to art room door to monitor the students dropping off instruments and coming back into the building. This ensures the door stays closed. Doors during school hours are not to be propped open. Staff are reminded to shut, and students are reminded to wait for adults in order to enter the building.

18 Action Steps Cont d Outside math classes now have designated door holders to ensure no doors are left open after math classes are finished. Additional signs posted to remind students and staff of expectations in closing doors and waiting for adults. in to safety director to discuss any further actions needed. Ordering magnets for doors so teachers can lock doors at all times. Front office procedures include asking the name of the individual and the purpose of their visit.

19 Action Steps Cont d Looking into window shades School locked down at all times after spring break. Change in procedures for before care. Enter doors by Cafe and get card for playground door. Security team developed and implement checklist. to staff and community with any updates.
