3 1. INTORDUCTION: SAFETY FIRST! 1.1. SAFETY MESSAGES This manual contains safety messages. They point out potential hazards that could hurt you or others around you as well as damage the equipment in use. These messages should therefore be read carefully and understood. They are highlighted by the safety alert symbol as shown on the left: The potential hazards are explained as to what could happen and how to avoid or reduce the chance for injury or damage. Important information has been highlighted as well. To point out this information, a light bulb icon is used. It brings topics to your attention that could, for example, facilitate maintenance or to clarify when it is advisable to consult your distributor/supplier GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION The Resqtec rescue equipment is designed to provide safe operation. All users should read and be thoroughly familiar with the operating instructions and safety precautions stated in this manual. Operator safety depends on users being properly trained by the Authority having jurisdiction and using the product for its intended purposes only. The following safety precautions must be observed at all times: UNTRAINED USE OF RESQTEC EQUIPMENT AND ITS ACCESSORIES MAY RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT! Resqtec rescue equipment must only be operated by people authorized and qualified by the Authority having jurisdiction. Be aware that this is not an all-encompassing training manual. This manual is meant as a reference-guide for working with this specific piece of equipment, and the user should already be trained in and qualified for using rescue equipment. Suitable protective equipment must be worn as directed by the Authority having jurisdiction. At a minimum, this should include gloves, helmet, eye protection and body protection such as turnout gear. Prior to use, inspect all components for any signs of damage or fraying. Do not use damaged equipment. Stay alert. Do not operate the system when tired. Use only Resqtec authorized service parts. This equipment should only be used with accessories approved by Resqtec. SAFETY INFORMATION Before using the equipment and its related products and accessories, conduct an overall size-up of the intended use and safeguard against potential hazards before installing the product. Read and understand this manual before using the equipment. The WARNING and SAFETY labels on the product alert the user to special hazards inherent with its use. Should they become damaged or unreadable, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement. BEFORE INSTALLING THE PRODUCT, BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING: Make sure no one on site is in danger or might get, when using Resqtec equipment. Be aware of your surroundings, the situation you and the people around you are in, and what the consequences of the use of the Resqtec system are. NEVER, when in use, hold the product by any of its moving parts. Doing so can result in serious injury. NEVER, when in use, place your hands or any other body parts between the moving parts a (stationary) object. Doing so can result in serious personal injury. When using a Resqtec product always ensure that the object is stable or stabilized by proper cribbing and/or shoring methods. NEVER pull a Resqtec product towards you by the hoses. Pick up the product by the handles instead, as intended. NEVER pull a hose to try to untangle it or to free a hose from an obstacle. Always direct your full attention to the problem; clear the hose from the obstacle or untangle the hose before proceeding. The force has to be divided equally on both spreading jaws of the cylinder and on the foot in the middle. The tips of the spreading jaws have to be placed as deeply as possible in the crack. If necessary use the rubber hammer. Don t use a metal hammer. This could damage the spreading jaws and cylinder. To avoid malfunction, protect the coupling pieces and the hose for damage PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION Product identification is to make sure that this manual comes with a specific product and that this manual should always be available as a reference guide to that equipment. It is mandatory that this manual is not separated from the product specified below during its service life. 6 2. PRODUCT SUMMARY 2.1. INTRODUCTION Thank you for choosing Resqtec. We are confident that we live up to your expectations. This manual has been compiled carefully to supply the reader with all the necessary information. Read all the instructions before using the product to assure safe and optimal use of the product. These instructions contain aspects relevant to safe and optimal use of the product. The product has been manufactured by Resqtec Zumro. For addresses, please refer to the last page of this manual or to our internet site at PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The dooropener has been designed and engineered to assist firefighters, USAR-teams and other rescue workers with the various rescue applications they encounter. We are confident that the design of this product will enable those working in these environments to not only negotiate the obstacles they encounter, but to perform their work more safely. The hydraulic spreading cylinder can be used in many situations but is originally made to open doors. The spreading cylinder can also be used during rescue operations in narrow spaces, collapsed buildings, etc. To see which specific hydraulic fluid your product uses, see chapter 1.4 of this manual, or look on the product label. 8 4. GENERAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 4.1. INITIAL USE When receiving your equipment check for any sign of damage to the box, and report it to your supplier as damage could have occurred during shipping. Unpack in upright position and check the product for damage. To make sure the product conforms to your specifications, check the product details on the label on the cylinder of the equipment. CHECK THE EQUIPMENT FOR EXTERNAL DAMAGE. NOTIFY THE SUPPLIER IMMEDIATELY IF ANY DAMAGE IS FOUND. DO NOT USE DAMAGED EQUIPMENT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE! 4.2. PREPARATION BEFORE USE Check the spreading jaws and foot. Do not use if they exhibit major damage and/or do not function as intended. See chapter 6 for further information OPERATION Press the cylinder between door and doorframe. Use a rubber hammer if necessary to slam the cylinder in a crack. Connect the hose to the dooropener and the handpump. Close the relief valve on the handpump for building up pressure. Step back from the door and use the hand pump. Because of the enormous power the door will open immediately in most cases. The cylinder can be slammed into the crack by the rubber hammer. Only slam on the back of the tool at the foot jaw. Avoid damage of the couplings and the hose. The spreading cylinder, hand pump and hose are a closed system and can be used under water. The hose has to be coupled on the cylinder and hand pump before going under water. After using dry the tool, clean and grease it. DOORS ALWAYS OPEN IN DIRECTION OF THE HINGES. 9 4.4. CONNECTING THE RESQTEC STD COUPLER 1 Check whether the pump relief valve is in its neutral/release pressure relief position. 2 Remove the dust caps from the couplers. 3 Align the STD coupler and push the male and female part firmly into each other DISCONNECTING THE RESQTEC STD COUPLER 1 Rotate the collar on the STD coupler until the cutout on the collar is in front of the ball. Then push the collar towards the female connector. The male connector will be ejected automatically. 2 Place the dust caps on both couplers. 10 RESQTEC Manual DOOROPENER (DM087K01)

11 6. MAINTENANCE & STORAGE 6.1. MAINTENANCE AFTER USE Generally speaking it is most important is to keep your equipment clean. Clean equipment will not wear down as fast; hence a longer service life can be achieved. WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT DURING MAINTENANCE. ENSURE THAT THE USED HYDRAULIC OIL IS COLLECTED AND DISPOSED OF IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER. ACTION EXPLANATION ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Visually check for damage. 1. Check the product and hoses for any damage. Check the unit for excessive oil leakage. Check the spreading jaws and foot for excessive wear. If structural damage to the product is discovered, contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier. 2. Clean and dry the product before storage. Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth. Mild soapy water can be used if necessary. Do NOT use any oil. Dry thoroughly after using water. 3. Clean and dry the hoses used before storage. Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth. Do NOT use any oil. 5. Check coupler functioning after cleaning. Place the dust caps when finished. Connect and disconnect the coupler at least 3 times. 12 Keep hand pump vertical. 6. Check the oil level (when cylinder is retracted). Keep the coupling part down. Remove the screw at the upper side. The oil level has to be about 2.5 cm / 1 beneath the opening If necessary, refill the oil. Only use mineral oil or oil that comes along with the opener. Only apply on the spreading jaws and foot. 7. After heavy use, CRC SP 400 can be used to ensure the spreading jaws and foot are protected against corrosion. Spray and clean with dry paper cloth. Clean any other parts that may have attracted some coating in the process. Read instructions carefully before using CRC SP 400. ATTENTION! IF YOU DECIDE THE SPREADING JAWS AND FOOT NEED TO BE COATED FOR ANTI-CORROSION PURPOSES, ONLY USE CRC SP 400. OTHER PRODUCTS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON THE LUBRICANT USED IN YOUR EQUIPMENT. OTHER PRODUCTS ALSO DO NOT HAVE THE HIGH PROTECTION GRADE THAT CRC SP 400 PROVIDES REGULAR MAINTENANCE It is advisable to carry out regular maintenance; depending on the use at least every 3 months or 25 operating hours. When carrying out regular maintenance one should, in addition to the steps described in chapter 6.1, pay extra attention to the following: MAINTENANCE ON DOOROPENER 1. Check the spreading jaws and foot for major damage. Check for cracks in the spreading jaws and foot. Do not use the product if the jaws exhibit major damage. RESQTEC Manual DOOROPENER (DM087K01) 13

13 6.2.2 MAINTENANCE ON COUPLERS 1. Check and clean the couplers thoroughly. Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth. Mild soapy water can be used if necessary. Verify smooth operation by connecting and disconnecting al couplers at least three times. Do not use any additional means of lubrication as some products might have a negative effect on the connector. The standard Quick Action Couplers are lubricated by the hydraulic fluid. Clean, good working couplers therefore need not other means of lubrication INSPECTION ON HOSE ASSEMBLIES 1. Thoroughly check the hoses for any wear, cuts or bruises. Visually check for damage. Check the hose assemblies for oil leakage. All but the smallest anomalies should be subjected to further inspection by an authorized person. When in doubt ALWAYS replace the hose. 2. Connect all components and test all functions. All products should make at least two complete cycles. DO NOT TAKE UNNECESSARY RISK BY UTILIZING FAULTY HOSES! WORN OR DAMAGED HOSES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE RESQTEC SYSTEM AND OTHER PROPERTY. 14 RESQTEC Manual DOOROPENER (DM087K01)

14 6.3. ANNUAL MAINTENANCE Many years of safe use is guaranteed if the product is properly cared for and maintained. To this end the product must be inspected at least once a year. This must be carried out by a service technician trained by Resqtec who possesses the necessary tools and testing equipment. It is also possible for you, the user, to carry out maintenance yourself. In the context of your own safety and the product liability it is necessary that appropriate training should be undertaken first. Your distributor/supplier can advise you on this and/or attend to the annual maintenance on a contract basis, if desired. STRUCTURALLY DAMAGED AND/OR BROKEN EQUIPMENT MUST NEVER BE USED DURING RESCUE OPERATIONS. THIS MAY RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT! If structural damage and/or broken equipment or parts are discovered, immediately contact your distributor/supplier or the manufacturer. DO NOT REPAIR ANY BROKEN EQUIPMENT AND/OR PARTS. ALWAYS CONTACT YOUR DISTRIBUTOR/SUPPLIER OR THE MANUFACTURER. Repairing equipment and/or parts causes your warranty to expire. Always contact your distributor/supplier or the manufacturer when broken parts and/or equipment are discovered. Broken equipment and/or parts can then be sent to certified service centers RECOMMENDED STORAGE The following storage recommendations apply: If needed, apply an anti-corrosion layer on the spreading jaws and foot as described in chapter 6.1 Store out of direct sunlight Store the equipment in a dry, well-ventilated area: Recommended storage temperature range Recommended storage relative humidity 0 60% 10 C 30 C/50 F 86 F 6.5. DECOMISSIONING & RECYCLING The various parts can be re-used at the end of their service life. Collect the hydraulic oil and dispose of it separately. Refer to the MSDS that was supplied with your product and/or follow local regulations on disposal. The product consists of steel, aluminum, neoprene (seals) and plastic. 15 7. WARRANTY Resqtec offers two years warranty upon the purchase of this product. For extending your warranty or information about the Resqtec service program, please contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier. WARRANTY IS ONLY VALID IF THE REGULATIONS AND RESTRICTIONS, AS DESCRIBED IN THE USER MANUAL APPLICABLE ON THE USED PRODUCT(S), ARE UNDERSTOOD AND FOLLOWED, AND IF THE MAINTENANCE AS ADVISED IN THE USER MANUAL IS DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED RESQTEC TECHNICIAN.
