2 1.0 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Disposable keg made of polyethylene and nylon complete with valve. For additional information, see the product technical sheet for each article (TS) 2.0 SAFETY AND MANAGEMENT RULES FOR THE KEG Each keg is supplied with an appropriate label containing all safety rules to be followed when the keg is used. The label is shown hereafter. It shows the symbols of each warning and the related explanations. WARNING: READ BEFORE USE DISPOSABLE KEG UNDER PRESSURE, HANDLE WITH CARE, PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY Keep away from children Do not drop Keep away from sunlight Do not kick Keep away from chemical/corrosive substances Do not remove valve Do not use detergents Stack correctly HAZARD: CO 2 and N 2 Read instructions on use of CO 2 and N 2 available from your suppliers. Suffocation hazard. STORAGE: Do not pierce MAX. UTILISATION PRESSURE: 3.5 BAR (50 PSI) Do not roll DEPRESSURISATION After use, depressurise the keg immediately to 0 bar (0 psi) TAPPING The keg can rupture and cause injuries if it is over-pressurised with compressed air, CO 2 or N 2. The tapping equipment must have a suitably calibrated safety release valve. DEPRESSURISATION After use, depressurise the empty keg immediately using the appropriate key. Do not release the pressure into a closed environment. WARNING If you are not familiar with the Polykeg or tapping systems, contact the suppliers for instructions or consult Do not disperse in the environment Page 2 of 8

3 3.0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR MANUAL FILLING 1. Pressurising gas inlet 2. Pressurising gas top-up valve 3. Pressure gauge for pressurising gas 4. Pressure regulator for pressurising gas 5. Product inlet 6. Product fill-up valve 7. Keg connector 1) Clean, and sanitise all parts before filling each keg. 2) Connect the product hose to the inlet (5) and verify the seal. 3) Let the product flow through the filling hose to purge all residual air, using the product fill-up valve (6). 4) If additional gas pressure is required (this reduces the generation of foam during filling), connect the available gas supply to the gas inlet (1). Note: for Polykeg kegs without a bag, the gas should be CO 2 or nitrogen (maximum pressure 3.5 bar). 5) Rotate the pressure regulator (4) to its maximum position. 6) Place the Polykeg keg on a stable surface to fill it. 7) Connect the filling head to the valve of the Polykeg keg. Note: spray an alcohol-based disinfecting solution on both parts before connecting. 8) Lower the handle of the filling head (7) until it locks. Note: the pressurising gas pressure gauge (3) will indicate the pressure inside the Polykeg keg. 9) If additional pressure is required, carefully open the gas top-up valve (2) until the desired pressure is reached and then close the valve. Note: when kegs with a bag are filled, it is crucial to have the correct gas pressure. 10) Slowly open the product fill up valve (6); the keg will start filling up. Note: It may be necessary to regulate the flow by acting on the valve. 11) The pressure reading will rise during filling; act carefully on the regulator in order to keep the desired pressure. 12) Observe the level of the product in the container; once the desired level is reached, close the product fill-up valve (6). Note: Once the maximum fill level has been reached, close the product fill-up valve to prevent any excess product from entering the gas pressure gauge. If this happens, clean carefully. 13) Lift the handle of the filling head (7). 14) Disconnect the filling head. Page 3 of 8

4 4.0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTOMATIC FILLING Please use this document to configure the equipment used to fill Polykeg kegs. Note-1: The Polykeg keg can be filled either with the TOP UPWARDS or with the TOP DOWNWARDS. Note-2: Before filling, it is important to know the correct filling pressure required. It should be about 0.1 bar higher than the equilibrium pressure of the product. The equilibrium pressure depends on the CO 2 present in the product and on the temperature of the product at the time of filling. Utilising a lower pressure during filling can cause a certain degree of "foaming" in the keg - (Maximum pressure in the keg: 3.5 bar). Note-3: Normally, the Polykeg keg is supplied in the oxygen-free version, purged with nitrogen (ready for filling) at a pressure of about 1.0 bar. Note-4: The maximum allowed load for the empty keg at 0 bar is about 100 kg. If there is pressure in the keg during the filling cycle, the maximum allowed load increases as follows: 0.5 bar kg 1.0 bar kg Note-5: If Polykeg kegs of models H, HS, or T (petaloid base) are being filled, make sure that the base support (or the pressure of the head) is flat, in order to provide additional support during filling. Note-6: Please check the technical drawings of the Polykeg valves in order to ensure a correct interface with the filling head. Filling procedure: 1. Sanitise the interface of the Polykeg valve (max. temperature 100 C, max. pressure 1.0 bar). 2. Connect the valve to the filling head. 3. Open the keg's valve. 4. Pressurise the keg to the filling pressure. 5. Open the product fill-up valve; the product enters the keg. 6. Check the product level in the keg. 7. When the keg is full, close the filling valve. 8. Close the keg's valve. 9. Disconnect the keg filling head. 10. Rinse and dry the interface of the Polykeg valve. 11. Apply the safety seal. Page 4 of 8

5 5.0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTOMATIC FILLING WITH THE BAG The Polykeg keg is now available also in the version with a flexible bag to separate completely the product from the tapping gas. This keg requires a special filling procedure, described below. Note-1: The Polykeg keg with a bag MUST be filled with the TOP POINTING UPWARDS. Note-2: When filling the inner bag, it is important to reduce to a minimum the possibility that gas is released from the product and that a gas bubble is formed in the upper part of the filled bag. Note-3: Before filling, it is important to know the correct filling pressure required. It should be about 0.1 bar higher than the equilibrium pressure of the product. The equilibrium pressure depends on the CO2 content and temperature of the product at the time of filling. Note-4: The Polykeg with a bag is supplied with the bag under vacuum at about 250 mbar and with the keg under pressure at about 0.5 bar. Note-5: The maximum allowed load for the empty keg at a pressure of 0 bar is about 100 kg. If there is pressure in the keg during the filling cycle, the maximum allowed load increases as follows: 0.5 bar 150 kg 1.0 bar 200 kg Note-6: If Polykeg kegs of the models H, HS, or T are being filled, make sure that the base support is flat, in order to provide additional stability during filling. Filling procedure (when vacuum is available) 1. Sanitise the interface of the Polykeg valve (maximum temperature 100 C, maximum pressure 1.0 bar) 2. Connect the valve to the filling head. 3. Apply vacuum to the filling head (about 250 mbar of absolute pressure); product entry only. 4. Open the keg's valve. 5. Pressurise the keg (between the keg and the bag) to the filling pressure. 6. Close the vacuum valve. 7. Open the product fill-up valve; the product enters the bag. 8. Check the product level in the keg. 9. When the keg is full, close the filling valve. 10. Close the keg's valve. 11. Disconnect the keg filling head. 12. Rinse and dry the interface of the Polykeg valve. 13. Apply the safety seal. Page 5 of 8

6 6.0 DEPRESSURISATION INSTRUCTIONS Pressurised gas remains in the keg when the keg is empty and the tapping head is disconnected. It is important to release the pressure of the keg before disposing of it. For this reason, PolyKeg developed an accessory to release the pressure in the keg. This accessory is suitable for all types of Polykeg valves: S, D, M, A, and G and can be attached to the top as shown in the photograph. To release the pressure in the keg, it is sufficient to insert the key into the valve, as shown in the photographs below, press carefully, and slowly release the gas. Follow the utilisation precautions listed below: WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES MAKE SURE THAT THE ROOM IS WELL VENTILATED DO NOT DISPERSE THE GAS IN CONTAINED SPACES AS IT COULD DECREASE THE OXYGEN CONCENTRATION TO HARMFUL LEVELS REMOVE THE EXCESS LIQUID FROM THE CONNECTION AREA RELEASE THE GAS SLOWLY VALVES S-D-M VALVES A-G Page 6 of 8

7 7.0 DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS In order to facilitate collection, re-use, and recovery, including recycle, PolyKeg indicates the nature of the packaging used, in accordance with the requirements of article 8 of Directive 94/62/EC on the basis of Decision 97/129/EC. It is recalled that the regulations do not require the submission of a specific declaration concerning the recyclability for the end-of-life products. Therefore, PolyKeg wrote this guide as a support to the customers, FOR A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH, POLYKEG RECOMMENDS After use, before disposing of the PolyKeg keg empty of its contents, it is important to release the pressure left inside the keg after use, utilising the appropriate pressure release "key" and following the instructions provided also on our website For correct recycle of the keg, it is recommended to follow the instructions of the local operator that manages the methods of delivery of the materials, utilising the symbols marked on the various parts as shown in the figure. An additional recommendation is to reduce the dimensions in order to decrease the environmental impact during transportation. The keg is now ready for disposal. INSTRUCTIONS FOR MECHANICAL RECYCLING Separate the various components of the keg and dispose of them in accordance with the symbols shown in the figure. 8 8.0 ACCESSORIES Some accessories were developed for the PolyKeg keg. They make it possible to utilise the keg in all safety. A) Lever to release pressure in the keg (see instructions at point 6.0) This accessory makes it possible to release the pressure in the keg, completely and in all safety, before segregated waste disposal. The pressure release operation is necessary to prevent accidents. B) Protection seal This simple device makes it possible to protect the keg from tampering. Page 8 of 8
