Holiday Schedule Due to the nature of this profession, we may conduct classes or dive training during holidays. We work with our students to give them the Professional Program classes they need in a timely manner and if it happens to fall on a legal holiday for them, we still work the classes. Daily Schedule Students have the choice of enrolling in a 22 hour per week program or a 40 hour per week program if they want to complete the program in a shorter period of time. However, those students using their GI Bill or other VA benefit and choosing the 40 hour per week program must understand that this will impact the total amount of Basic Allowance for Housing they receive since the course will be shorter. The specific schedule for all courses will be dependent on factors such as weather and logistical considerations. However, you should arrive at the program for the following schedule, and avoid any conflicting plans or commitments during the effective dates of your course. The schedule will typically look like this: 22 Hour per Week Programs: Saturday & Sunday: 7AM 4PM Wednesday & Thursday: 530PM 830PM 40 Hour per Week Programs: Monday Friday: 7AM 4PM * Schedule is subject to change without notice due to weather conditions. Attendance Policy Due to the disciplined nature of all training courses, two unexcused absences during the course of the program will result in a student being dismissed for unsatisfactory attendance. An unexcused absence is any absence, excluding illness or emergencies, that is not coordinated with and approved by the Director of Training at least 48 hours in advance. Absences due to illness or emergencies must be approved by the Director of Training two hours before class start time. All missed training, whether due to an excused or unexcused absence, must be completed in a timely manner so as not to fall behind 10

with other students in the session and at a passing grade prior to the issuance of any certificate. If excessive excused absences result in failure to complete certification requirements in the allotted time, provision for completion may be made with the approval of the Director of Training at which time the student will be charged at a rate of $65.00 per contact hour above and beyond the regular tuition (not covered under Veteran s Benefits if using the GI Bill) for all such makeup work. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, then a student will receive a point. If a student accumulates 10 points, it will be considered an unexcused absence; see above for definition. Leave of Absence Due to the pace and intensity of the training, a student should withdraw and reapply for a later class session if they need to miss more than 16hrs of instruction. Authorization for a leave of absence is done on a case-by-case basis by considering the needs and circumstances of the student and the impact that the student s absence will have on his or her training. The leave of absence request must be submitted in writing and should include the proposed start date and the anticipated ending date for the leave of absence. Withdrawal If a student decides to withdraw from the program, the student must notify Ocean Legends - International Diving Academy in writing of their intent to withdraw. Letters of intent may be delivered to the Academy by the USPS, fax, , or hand delivered. The last date of attendance will be considered the date of withdrawal. Enrollment Requirements To enroll in Oceans Legends International Diving Academy, a potential student must be at least 18 years of age, possess a High School Diploma or GED, must be in good mental and physical health for diving and submit an approved medical exam form for a diving medical examination conducted within the last year. For the IANTD Closed Circuit Rebreather Instructor Development Course, students must be at least 21 years of age. A criminal conviction involving abuse of a minor or sexual abuse of an adult, occurring before enrollment, during training or prior to certification as an Instructor, will be automatic grounds for denial of application, dismissal from training or revocation of credentials. Potential students must have 11

all applications, forms, and financial arrangements completed 21 days prior to the session start date. Potential students must also be able to pass a swim evaluation consisting of; a) 200-yard swim with any combination of strokes; b) 10-minute float; c) breath hold swim; d) 5-minute tread. Graduation Requirements To complete a program of study at Ocean Legends IDA, students must pass all required classes and exams, and certification requirements and submit all required paper work. The student must be free of all indebtedness and have paid all appropriate fees. Credit for Previous Course Work Students can receive credit for previous certifications and training. VA students must report and document all similar certifications and training to the VA Military Program Manager. Ocean Legends IDA will evaluate the training and grant credit on a case by case basis. If credit is granted, the tuition and duration of training will be reduced accordingly and a written notice of the credit will be supplied to the student, a copy will be sent to the VA and a copy will be kept in the student file. Copies of the proof of previous training will be kept in the student s file. The institution will require high school transcript, proof of high school graduation (or equivalency) or any certification documentation from training agencies and transcripts for any post-secondary education. Prior to initial certification for Veterans benefits, the following will occur: 1. All transcripts and certifications will be evaluated for applicable transfer credit. Applicable credit or lack thereof will be noted in the student s academic file. 2. For transfer credit accepted, appropriate reduction in the course of instruction will be granted. 3. Appropriate adjustment will be made in tuition and fees corresponding to the acceptance of transfer credit for any program of instruction. Grade Requirements For PADI programs, students must complete all performance requirements for the course of study, with full understanding acknowledged by the student, and a passing score of at least 75% on all written exams. Diving skills will be graded on a 5-point scale with a minimum score of 3 required in order to 12

move on to next phase of training. For IANTD programs, the certification agency requires a passing score of at least 80% and a minimum score of 4 on all diving skill evaluations. For the Closed Circuit Rebreather Instructor Development Course, the passing score increases to 95% and 5 due to high standards required by IANTD and the rebreather manufactures to ensure only highly competent instructors are approved given the increased danger and risk inherent in closed circuit rebreather diving. The grading scale for diving skills is as follows: Professionalism Evaluation Scores: Score: 5 Description: Excellent Interpretation Denotes demonstration quality, skill conducted in a calm, controlled manner without any problems or difficulties. Score: 4 Description: Good Interpretation Denotes a high degree of competency and control, though lacking some of the same fluidity and demonstration quality as a 5. Score: 3 Description: Average Denotes the skill is conducted in a calm, controlled manner with no significant problems. Lacks the polish and control of a 4. Score: 2 Description: Below Average Denotes the skills which, even though successfully completed, demonstrated significant problems or errors. Does not meet standards of a passing grade. Score: 1 Description: Unacceptable Denotes inability to complete the skill, or performance so poor that competence cannot be inferred. Does not meet standards of a passing grade. Written Examination Scores: % A 89-80% B 79-75% C 74-65% D (retest required) 13

64% & under F (retest required) Additionally, an oral review of all exams will be conducted to ensure that even those passing the exam have a full understanding of the items missed. Students will receive continual input and critique on their performance during the course. Counseling will be conducted by the Director of Training and other appropriate staff members. Students who demonstrate unsatisfactory progress will be counseled to withdraw from the course. All student records will be available for review by the students. Students dismissed for unsatisfactory academic performance or gross violation of school rules may be allowed to re-enroll in subsequent courses only if prior approval is given by the Training Director. Academic Probation Every course in the all the Ocean Legends IDA Programs will have periodic skill evaluations and written and oral exams throughout the duration of the course. Because of the fast paced nature of the programs, any student that does not meet minimum grade requirements for an exam or skill evaluation, as outlined above, will have five days to work with their instructor and correct the deficiency. If the student is not able to attain a passing score by that time, the student will be dismissed from the current session and have their education benefits discontinued. The student may reapply for admission for a new session at a later date. Evaluation Forms Progress reports will be given to the students by the instructor every two weeks. Student Record File, Instructor Candidate Information and Evaluation Forms, Skill Development Sheets, and Practical Application Records will be used to record student grades and progress. Student Records Student records are permanently retained by Ocean Legends International Diving Academy and are available to students upon individual request. Student records will be provided to potential employers and other only if written permission is provided by the student. Transfer of credit for training to other institutions is at the discretion of the accepting institution. 14
