2 Diameter Measured diameter is ID not OD 5 mm and 8 mm are standard (for single poles) 8 mm emits lower intensity but has more curing power than 5 mm (8 mm is more efficient) 3 mm is standard diameter for multiple poles

3 Distance vs. Intensity Intensity decreases dramatically with distance due to divergence.

4 Multiple Poles 3 mm is standard diameter for each pole of a multiple pole lightguide. There are some losses when light is split using a liquid-filled lightguide. A diffusing rod helps to balance intensity in a liquid-filled lightguide. Rotate and lock with set screw to truly balance a liquid-filled lightguide.

5 Connections D connector is the lightguide connection for current DYMAX lamps. It s s an industry standard. Wolf connector is the connector style for our previous generation of lamps (PC-3, PC-3 3 Ultra, and 3010-EC). Lightguides with both connector types are still available.

6 Cool Blue TM Filter Technology DYMAX spot lamps utlilize a Cool Blue TM that blocks UVB, UVC, and IR. Previous Slide Filter This results in longer liquid-filled lightguide life (UVB/UVC) and cooler parts (IR). Without a Cool Blue TM Filter,, standard lightguides would lose up to 50% transmission over the life of a bulb. With the filter, lightguide degradation is virtually eliminated. This is important as lightguide degradation is a perceived weakness of liquid lightguides and it has essentially been solved.

7 Standard vs. Extended Range Standard DYMAX liquid-filled lightguides are highly transmissive and stable over the UVA range. When UVB or UVC are desired, customer must remove Cool Blue TM Filter (for UVB and UVC transmission) and use an extended range or quartz fiber lightguide (for stability). Extended range and quartz fiber lightguides are simply more resistant to UVB/UVC (and more expensive.)

8 Liquid-Filled vs. Quartz Fiber Single pole liquid-filled lightguides have twice the transmission rate of single pole quartz fiber. Quartz fiber transmission is very stable over time, even when transmitting UVB and UVC. Liquid-filled lightguides are less expensive than fiber and more durable in repeated flex applications. Quartz fiber lightguides are more difficult to clean since a razor blade can not be used.

9 Length 1 meter is the standard length for lightguides. Both longer and shorter lightguides are available, typically in 0.5 meter increments. Length does affect transmission of liquid- filled-lightguides lightguides (not quartz fiber), but only slightly. Less than 5% per 0.5 meter.

10 Determining Transmission Rate A lightguide simulator is required. Reference Lightguide Simulator literature (Lit #69) to calculate transmission rate. Reference BlueWave TM 200 literature (Lit #218) for a list of the transmission rates of new standard lightguides.

11 Cleaning and Keeping Lightguides Clean A dirty lightguide may not look dirty. A thin film of contamination can reduce transmission by over 50%. Clean liquid-filled lightguides with a razor blade. Do not use a razor to clean quartz fiber lightguides. Wiping with a solvent soaked rag will not work well. Do not soak lightguide in solvent. Eliminate condensation of curing smoke through the use of a fan.
