Furthermore, they provide the patient with sufficient tidal volume and ensure that ventilation takes place when spontaneous breathing ceases (as in central apnea). The differences in device versions: In Bilevel S (S = spontaneous) devices like SOMNOvent S, breathing support is initiated and terminated by the patient s spontaneous breathing. In addition to breathing support, the device also unlike CPAP devices reduces pressure to allow comfortable exhalation. A fixed low back-up rate guarantees ventilation of the patient in cases of apneas that last more than 10 seconds. The software reads out, visualizes and analyzes therapy monitoring data. With the help of daily statistics, the patient s ventilation data can be analyzed breath-for-breath for a 10-hour period. Furthermore, the statistical analysis also permits numeric and graphic representation of all ventilation parameters in Weinmann s home ventila- tion devices for up to six weeks. Annual compliance shows the patient s use of the device for 365 days. With its remote setting module WEINMANNadjust, WEINMANNsupport lets the user display and set therapy parameters. 3 C12 Home Mechanical Ventilation Analogbox D/A The intelligent connection between Weinmann home ventilation devices and polysomnography (PSG) The Weinmann Analogbox D/A provides sleep diagnosis data and visualization of ventilation parameters at a single glance. The Analogbox converts the digital signals produced by the With the help of the Analogbox in SOMNOlab, displayed ventilationparameters from BiLevel ST 22 therapy devices VENTIlogic LS, VENTIlogic, VENTImotion and BiLevel ST 22 into analog signals, which are proportional to the measured data. By eliminating the need to switch back and forth between the PSG view and the ventilation monitor, the Analogbox makes it easier for the doctor to operate the system and to make a diagnosis. Polysomnographs in sleep labs, however, work with analog signals. Until now it was not possible to present relevant ventilation parameters such as pressure, flow, leakage and respiratory events on a polygraph screen. The physician would have to analyze data on two different screens at the same time. Another difficulty was presented in the time delay between the data of the polysomnograph and the device s curves, The Analogbox converts the digital signals into analog signals. The Box, which is approximately 10 cm wide and 15 cm high, is equipped with four interfaces with double assignments to accommodate eight channels. The interfaces connect the ventilator to the polysomnographic system. This configuration permits parallel presentation of vital data signals and the ventilator s curve diagrams at the same time and on a single screen. VENTIpower In a power failure or away from home, the VENTIpower rechargeable battery operates the entire ventilation system for about five hours. In the event of a device failure, the oxygen feed is immediately switched off by VENTI-O 2 plus or the oxygen is directed into the ambient air (by VENTI-O 2). Their non-observance, according to VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) can suffice as proof of improper work and endangers the safety of the patient. The norm DIN EN ISO deals with ventilation devices for medical use. Among other things, it states that if an oxidation means is introduced into the flow of the ventilation system, the manufacturer or operator must make sure that it is not possible for the oxygen to be re-breathed into the therapy device should the oxygen concentration exceed 24 %. The reason is found in the potentially elevated risk of fire or explosion. When the ventilator functions properly, the EPAP pressure (therapy pressure for expiration) washes the oxygen out of the exhalation system. If the device fails, the source of oxygen, which is not coupled with the ventilator, continues to deliver oxygen to the patient. As a result, oxygen at a relatively high concentration can get into the ventilator and dramatically increase the danger of fire and explosion. There is no such danger with Weinmann s VENTI-O 2 plus or VENTI-O 2. If the device fails, VENTI-O 2 directs the oxygen into the ambient air. VENTI-O 2 plus immediately terminates the oxygen feed in the event of a device failure. Furthermore, the risk of combustibility is reduced to a minimum through the use of new materials and components in the ventilation therapy devices VENTIlogic und VENTImotion (from serial number 4000). 17 E2 Patient Interface Concept Patient Interface: for ideal patient comp The mask has the most critical interface function in therapy. It connects patient and machine and delivers the flow of air from the device to the patient s airways. For hours at a time the mask covers the patient s face, one of the most sensitive parts of the body. If it doesn t fit properly, the patient won t accept the mask and the success of therapy is put at risk. The requirements for ventilation masks are very demanding. They have to fit perfectly, stand up to high therapy pressures and allow the patient to exhale easily. They also have to be kind to the skin, quiet and simple to use. If the patient wants to get out of bed during the night, he can separate the hose from the mask with one simple touch. SOMNOplus HEADstrap Headgear Pre-assembled on all JOYCE Masks HEADstrap, our headgear for masks, has a cross-shaped construction that fits perfectly on the back of every patient s head. In contrast to conventional headgear, HEADstrap does not put pressure on the patient s neck. Easy-to-use headgear The four-point headgear HEADstrap is easy to use and is suitable for every head size. The slits allow almost limitless adjustments and the circular opening at the back of the head permits a quick fit to any head size. The Silentflow 2 exhalation system, however, operates according to a clever principle that increases sleep comfort. The air flows quietly through a gap and along the hose, effectively preventing a disturbing draft. Silentflow 2 can be used with all nasal non-vented variants (JOYCE NV, JOYCE NV 40 hpa, JOYCE GEL NV, SOMNOmask). 2 Noise Suppressor In the noise suppressor the air bubbles out through micropores.
