1 User s Guide HAMMERHEADSLEDS Please read all warnings before using this or any sled Performance Sledding WHAT SLEDDING IS ALL ABOUT Read Me First : Safe Riding : CAUTION! No doubt about it--sledding is fun! But to avoid getting hurt, please follow these important safety rules: Do not sled while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Always ride on good snow. Ice and bare patches can cause the sled to go out of control. Avoid roadways, paths, or other areas that are used by vehicles. Stay away from cliffs and extremely steep hills. The HAMMERHEAD sled is designed for only one person sledding at a time. Be aware that the HAMMERHEAD does not have a brake and can develop high speeds under certain snow conditions. Do not sled in crowded areas, on roads, on icy surfaces, near trees, vehicles, buildings, or other obstacles. Do not kneel, stand, or sit backwards while sledding. Do not tow the HAMMERHEAD behind any vehicle. Do not let children under 10 ride the HAMMERHEAD. Wear protective clothing such as ANSI or Snell approved helmet, goggles, gloves, and warm clothes. If you ride at dusk or at night, use a powerful headlight and taillight and stay clear of obstacles. When riding the HAMMERHEAD at a ski area (with their approval), you must use a safety leash. Use the HAMMERHEAD at your own risk. Sled in control at all times! It is your job to avoid people and objects below you. Wear a helmet! In addition, protective gear such as goggles not only look cool, but keep you seeing strait. [1]

2 Out of Box Experience No assembly required. Right out of the box, the HAMMERHEAD (R) is ready for action! The standard configuration includes generalpurpose rear skis. This means you can ride on most any snow surface, from hard-pack to a few inches of powder. Sledding 101 > Starting Always check your HAMMERHEAD before heading out. Make sure that: There are no loose or missing parts or accessories. The seat is in good condition and firmly attached. The steering head flexes normally and is not loose or binding. The skis and runners are firmly attached and undamaged. Check under the front ski to verify that the attachment bolts are snug (ski is not wobbly). you re riding head-first or feet first, you can drag your feet to slow down. Bail out if that s the only way to avoid a crash! Turning Turning is one of the easiest things to do on a HAMMERHEAD sled. The patented steering utilizes either stainless steel leaf springs (Pro Models) or nylon steering bar (Sport Models), giving great response and feedback with a tuned feel. Place your feet (or hands, if head-first) on the grips on the steering arms. Apply forward pressure to the arm opposite the turn and backward pressure to the arm toward the turn. Just like steering a bike! Be sure to practice with lots of room and a shallow hill. Move steeper gradually. Lean into the turns as you go faster. And listen to us: WEAR A HELMET! Start with a good snowy hill and some gravity. The HAMMERHEAD does the rest! You can ride head-first or feet-first. Head-first provides a thrilling ride that is also very controlled, because you use your arms to steer and your center of gravity is very low. Feet-first (sitting) gives you a better view over crests and gives some people a safer feeling. Important! If you re riding at a ski area or crowded hill, you must use a safety leash to keep the sled from unmanned descent down the hill or off the lift. Make sure you have a good connection to the sled frame and your leg before riding it or riding with it on the chair lift. Stopping Sled in a controlled manner! There are only slow ways to stop a sled! Generally sleds do not brake by nature, and they only come to a controlled stop by turning as with a snowboard, or by applying your feet as brakes. Make sure you have enough room to to slow and stop the HAMMERHEAD in all situations. A way to stop is to steer hard to one side and the rear should skid out (this works best with the wider skis), or turn up the hill against gravity. To slow more gradually, try using gentle slalom turns. The sled will lose speed as the skis carve the turn. Sharper turns will slow the sled faster. If Carrying Youʼll need to carry your HAMMERHEAD up the hill to get down (unless youʼre at a ski area). The HAMMERHEAD is very light and balanced so that you can carry it with one hand about two-thirds of the way toward the front. There are many ways to hand-carry the sled that work great. In addition, you can attach the carry strap, tow line or use the HAMMERHEAD sled carry bag, available as accessories from Hammerhead Sleds. Swap Ski tm The rear skis can be swapped out for optimum performance. The HAMMERHEAD with general-purpose narrow skis (sometimes called rails) are designed to handle anything from super hard pack to about three or four inches of powder or loose granular. Use the these skis for most snow conditions especially on a hard base [2]

3 like a ski area or sledding hill. They are light weight, and make the sled more compact. Swap them for wider Pro Carving Skis if youʼll be riding in more than 4" of snow or you like high performance sledding. Youʼll find that the Pro Carving skis can be spun out (or in car talk, over-steered) because they ride a bit higher and have less tracking than the narrow skis. Be sure to bring along the safety leash and get approval by showing the sled to the mountain operations people. Show them it is controllable, attached to you and you can stop it. Use the universal travel bag to stow the sled and accessories. Specifications (and cool technology) > Front Skis The front skis are specially designed to be lightweight yet strong. They re made of polycarbonate a plastic that has a high molecular weight. What this means to you is the skis are fast, strong, slick, and durable, even at super low temperatures. The FRONT SKIS are designed with a sharp turning (Concave Skis) bottom shape. The result is super glide, high resistance to wear, and turning like no other sled. The front skis are also designed to pivot up and down, which allows them to flow over bumps and depressions. Like all of the HAMMERHEAD s components, the front skis are also easily changed out and can be swapped from side to side to balance wear. They are quickly removed via nut and bolt. Pro Sleds use a 6M x 35M stainless socket hex head bolt and 6M locking nut for Bullet Skis. Newer Pro Sleds now use the Double Bomb Ski, a double concave ski with greater performance on bigger hills. > Rear Skis The REAR SKIS have a patented quick on/off (SWAP-SKI ) design for varying snow conditions including crusty, hard pack and powder. These skis utilize a faster, softer high density polyethylene (HDPE) material is fast and light, and it can also be waxed for even better performance. To remove just pull on the fore or aft tabs of the rear skis and pull down off the ski tube rail. To re-attach, be sure to center the ski on the tube (front to back) before re-attaching to assure proper fit. If the ski has a big gap in the front or back, re-install for proper snug fit on both ends. Optional Ski Clips are available for harder riding and when the skis are to be more permanent. > Frame The aluminum 6063 T8 frame is strong and light. What s more, its 1 diameter allows for the easy mounting of standard bike components such as head-lights, taillights, mirrors, bells, horns, [3]

4 etc. (If you choose to use off-the-shelf components, make sure that they can be used on a 1" tube, because a few fit better on 7/8" tubes. The frame is ergonomically designed to be as comfortable as possible while maintaining integrity. You ll notice the side tubes bending slightly down towards the rear so the riders legs can comfortably be extended while being able to brake with feet. Optional Armor Skins can soften the metal in case of unplanned bumps. HAVE FUN > Seat The seat fabric is lightweight, doesn't chill the body and provides exceptional suspension over small bumps and undulations. Snow pats off easily. Should you need to replace the sled, call Hammerhead for the options available. > Weight Limit: Pro Series 200 lbs. Sport Series 180 lbs. Care The HAMMERHEAD is very easy to care for. Please keep the following in mind: Don t leave the sled outside for extended periods of time! Summer sun especially can deteriorate the seating material and plastic over time. Don t carry sharp objects while sledding that can cut the fabric seating (or you)! Never stand or jump on the seat like a trampoline! Hammerhead Sleds are not meant for jumping. You risk bending the frame or worse, your face. Sled alone, sled in a crowd You ve got the tool. Find a trail then rip turns with blazing speed. Now go tire out your dog. And stay safe. [4]
