2 The Experience team We re the Experience team and we re here to create inspiring, educational, and fun activities for all the family. All our experiences can be tailored made to suit your requirements and individual preferences. Six Senses Con Dao enjoys a private and secluded setting with a host of activities on hand to entertain all ages and satisfy the most discerning of tastes. From water sports and beach activities to hiking and discovering nature; Con Dao island has something special for everyone. Our entire range of activities - including a full range of water sports are fully covered with public liability insurance. We take a great pride in assuring that our guests are in safe hands at all times. On all of our excursions Six Senses crystal water is. It is always possible to add additional beverages and foods to your trip. Please speak with your GEM or Experience host to arrange this. Experience Center Opening Hours: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Ext Booking Outside of office hours please speak to your GEM for booking. Kindly note that we are only able to accept bookings between the hours of 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. Cancellation policy If you wish to cancel your tour you must inform the Experience team the day before you are due to depart or within three hours for same day bookings during Experience booking hours, otherwise a 50 percent charge will be applied. Cancellations without notice will result in the full cost of the tour being charged. Cancellation during any tour due to inclement weather may result in the full cost of the tour being charged, unless due to safety. In such cases a commensurate charge may be applied. Child pricing Infants aged under three years can participate in any experience free of charge with parental or suitably aged guardian supervision. Children between the age of three and 12 will receive a 50 percent discount on paid Experiences**. Pricing for infants and children may be higher in such cases where a minimum number of people are required. 3 At a sense of laughter is open from 9:00 am to 6::00 pm daily for four to 12 year olds. Here we have a great selection of exciting activities that will keep you busy in the resort and around the island. You can paint statues, make sand castles, explore the beach and jungle, decorate cookies, learn what to do with recycled paper and card to make exciting things, play by the pool... The possibilities are endless. You can always join in if it looks like we re having too much fun Our philosophy here is that you don t need to be told what to do and when, so we typically don t produce activity lists for the day (those are boring!), just come by and see what fun things are going on and join in. If you want to do something else, maybe we can get somebody else interested too. Please note that some activities need to be booked in advance, so make sure you let your GEM know. Children under the age of four are always welcome, but please note that without parental supervision, babysitting charges will apply. Please note that all children being placed in the care of our hosts at a Sense of laughter must be registered so we know where to find you at all times. Environment and social While taking part in any excursion we ask all guests to kindly respect the environment and the local customs of Vietnam. During any excursion that visit s religious or historical sites, please covers your shoulders and knee s, otherwise you may be refused entry. Do not purchase shells or other environmentally sensitive items (you may not be allowed to bring them in to your home country). They are beautiful, but they look better the natural setting in which they are from. By purchasing items like these you are promoting a trade in environmentally sensitive items and encouraging the growth of these industries. 6 Sense of discovery Into culture Two wheels and the road Nothing says Vietnam more than a bicycle or motorbike. These are the staple method of transport around the country and Con Dao is no exception. Take your set of wheels and explore the island of Con Dao. Approximately 5 kilometers away you will find the main town, the market, historical sites, the beautiful scenery, and the lovely locals; take a glimpse at everyday life while riding along the main road and enjoy. You can travel by bicycle or by Vespa motorbike. Let us know your preference and we will arrange for you your chose method of transportation at the Welcome Sala with a map, water and a helmet; off you go. Should you wish to increase your interaction with the locals, the team are happy to provide you with a printed list of English-Vietnamese phrases. Duration: Includes: Why not... 7 Con Dao local life tour Feel like discovering the island and finding out what Con Dao daily life is about? We have the solution for you. Travel through the island with our guide, who will take you around the island, through the back roads, small dwellings and local agricultural plots that are peppered with livestock. 8 Con Dao historical and prison tour This tour explores the rich history of Con Dao and will delve into its darker side. A series of prison systems were constructed throughout the 113 years of colonization during which many thousands of prisoners where interred here. Conditions in the prisons have become the substance of legend with hardships and brutal regimes placing untold adversity on the local interred population. During this tour we will visit the following locations: Local museum s Phu Hai Prison The oldest prison complex in Con Dao French Tiger Cages The now infamous prison system kept in secret for 30 years Hang Duong Cemetery Final resting place of national hero s Vo Thi Sau and Le Hong Phong, among others. Phi Yen Temple - where Vietnamese pay their respects to the former wife of Emperor Nguyen Anh. There are some twelve more historical sites relating to this period for the island. If you wish to visit more, please speak to the Experience team or guide and we will be happy to arrange this for you. Kindly note that due to the nature of this tour it is suitable only for those with a mature character. This tour must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. 9 Caò nghêu/clam collecting Try your hand at collecting beach clams the traditional way. Six Senses beach is prime clam area and throughout the year we allot certain areas where clams cam be collected. Using the traditional tools of the trade we will show you how to search for and collect clams. Please understand that to sustain the population of clams on the beach restrictions do apply as below: Duration: Includes: Why not clams per one bedroom villa maximum 25 clams per three or four bedroom villa maximum One clam collecting session per villa per stay Clams must be 25 32in (2 cm) or bigger to keep. Anything smaller must be returned Chef recommends a period of 24 hours between collecting and cooking. 10 A sense of eerie Every night a pilgrimage occurs in Con Dao. Visitors to the islands go to pay their respects to the fallen heroes of Vietnam s struggle for independence that now lie peacefully at Hang Duong. Visit and pay your respects at the tombs of Vo Thi Sau, Le Hong Phong, and Nguyen An Ninh who all gave their lives along with the other 2,000+ residents of this area. Hang Duong now stands as not only a memorial to those who gave their lives, but also as a testament to the will and strength of the Vietnamese people. 11 Into discovery and adventure Turtle discovery Con Dao is the only place in Vietnam where Sea Turtles not only come to nest, but also the only place where they enjoy full national park protection. Green turtles come to nest around 1 of ten beaches from May to October every year (allowing for seasonal variations). During this period female turtles will come up on the beach at high tide during the night. Watch as turtles lay their eggs, cover the nest and return to the ocean. Your guide will lead you to the Bay Canh island nesting grounds where you can witness this spectacle of nature unfold. 12 Trekking to the lighthouse Are you ready for an experience that will take you to the past as well as put your level of fitness to the test? A 30 minute ride by speedboat will lead to the beautiful island of Bay Canh where the adventure begins; a two to two and a half hour trek through the dense forest leads you to one of Con Dao s most important landmarks. Construction of the Bay Canh lighthouse was between 1883 and 1885 is located one of the highest points in on Bay Canh island at 741 feet (226 meters) above sea level. Enjoy the most amazing view and let your eyes wander over Con Dao archipelago and the East Sea. Have a rest in the lovely garden surrounding the lighthouse and meet the keepers, who are always delighted to receive guests. 13 Hit the high spots Immerse yourself in Con Dao s nature through the forest and try to spot some of the three endemic animal species on the island. Listen carefully and you will be able to distinguish many different types of birds and cicadas. At the So Ray platform an old fruit plantation site it is very common to see the Con Dao Long Tailed Macaque Monkey. At a height of 853 feet (260 meters) above sea level, the old lookout is the perfect place for panoramic view over Con Son Bay. 14 Up and over Con Dao For the energetic, rather than stopping at the So Ray platform we can continue to hike deep into the jungle sorting through lianas and lush vegetation through to the far side of Con Son. This additional trail takes you where few others go. On the far side you can relax in the clear waters off the peninsular between Ong Cau and Ong Dung Bay. 15 Con Son marine discovery Head to the islands of the Con Dao archipelago by speedboat and discover some of Con Dao s best kept secrets. A speed boat will take you island hoping to discover the underwater life surrounding Vietnam s premier marine protected area. We know the perfect spots around Con Dao archipelago where you will see some of the documented 1,493 species of Marine life and the best coral formations in the country. Con Dao is the only national park in Vietnam that actively protects sea Turtles and Dugongs and subject to seasonal access; we will stop at the beach where sea turtles come to lay their eggs. If it is the right time of year, you may spot a few turtles during your trip. 16 Con Dao land and sea tour Journey round to the western side of Con Dao by bus. On the way we ll stop at the local market and at Von Son pagoda. Arriving at Ben Dam harbor you ll board our boat. In the bay we ll stop at a fish farm where you can see the different species being cultivated. If you wish you can even buy a fish here to take back to the resort and we ll keep it fresh for the kitchen to prepare for you. From there we ll journey round to Hon Vung island and Hon Tai for snorkeling, before finally heading back to Con Son harbor and the resort. We ll head out just before dark on our favorite fisherman s boat (Mr Thien), during your cruise out we will show you how to handle a hand line and when darkness comes, we ll turn on the lights and you get to try out your new skills. 20 Sunset getaway Travel by boat round to the western side of Con Dao, passing Ca Map Cape (Shark Cape) and gazing upon Dinh Tinh Yeu or Lovers Peak, before stopping on the far side of Hon Ba (Grand Mother Island). 22 Sense of cosmology - N8 o E106 o Don t know your Alt-Azimuth from your elbow? Now you can stretch out your senses and gaze upon the universe at the only privately owned observatory in south Vietnam. At the heart of our observatory is a Maksutov-Cassegrainian 127mm telescope, allowing you to view all the celestial high-lights of the south Vietnam sky, including our resident wanderer s like Saturn, Jupiter, Mars; Open clusters such as Pleiades and the Beehive cluster; Look at stars being born in nebula s, and of course throughout the month, going through its different phases, our own satellite the Moon. 23 Leave only footprints Con Dao national park is a beautiful special place and we would like it to stay that way for future generations to enjoy. All of our excursions follow the Leave only footprints and take only memories philosophy. To help, we have a waterproof sports camera available for hire that you can take hiking, boat cruises, bike rides, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, surfing; it can go everywhere you can. If you re not quite David Bailey, not to worry, just ask and your host and they will happily record the day for you. All pictures and videos will be burnt on to CD. Alternatively, we can copy them on to your own personal USB stick. If you wish to use our sports camera please inform the Experience team in advance so that we can prepare it and give you instruction on its use. Using our EcoBioBalls you are able to practice your swing and knock a few in to the water from the Elephant Mountain Platform. EcoBioBalls dissolve in 48 hours and the remains serve as fish food.
