1 36 th National YMCA Swimming and Diving Championship Meet April 4-6 th, 1963 Hosted by the Cedar Rapids YMCA Held at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. This year s National YMCA Swimming and Diving Championship Meet was hosted by the YMCA of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and held at the University of Iowa located in Iowa City, Iowa approximately 30 miles South and East of Cedar Rapids. There were 23 YMCA Associations, with approximately 240 contestants from 10 states entered to participate in this event. Meet Director Jim Gilchrist (Coach of the Cedar Rapid team) and his meet committee did an outstanding job in hosting this meet. For the fourth straight year and the seventh in the 36 year history of this National YMCA Swimming and Diving Championships, the YMCA of Huntington, Indiana captured the National Title much to the dismay of the other 22 challenging teams at the meet. Meet Notes: There were a number of changes made in distances for this meet and 1 New Event was added to the Order of Events. The 220 Yard Freestyle was changed to 200 yards, the 440 yard freestyle was changed to 500 yards and the 1500 meters freestyle was changed to the 1650 yard freestyle. The New Event added was the 400 Yard Individual Medley.
