Please.. take your child/children to the pool at least once a week between lessons to have a play and a practice. Much progress comes from a little fun! WELCOME!! Welcome to our first newsletter in a LOOOONG time. Firstly welcome to all our new families. You will form friendships, meet like-minded people and change your life in such small ways you won t even realise it is happening. I love that many of our parents and children have met their best friends here, share play dates and generally hang out together outside lesson time. Even our instructors have formed great friendships with each other and some of our families. It s a good thing. PARENTS ON PHONES Increasingly over the past few years Instructors have come to me with concerns about children s behaviour either whilst waiting for or during classes. A common theme is that the parents don t even notice because they only have eyes for their phone. We understand that your phone connects you to your workplace, your family and your friends, and maybe even gives you a little downtime playing games. If you have anything to contribute to our newsletter, please let me know. We are happy to run small ads for you and I am even have a Business Card rack for our families to promote their businesses so bring in a handful of cards and we will help spread the word. We have had some staffing changes over the last couple of months and you can find details of these over page. There have also been some major improvements as we slowly work towards updating and refreshing the centre, making it an even better place to visit. Big news is the conversion of our Small Pool to Mineral Salt Water sanitisation (read more further on in this newsletter). This term runs for 9 weeks over 10 (one week break from Easter) and bookings are now open for Term 2 which starts in April and the April School Holiday Program. Book early to avoid missing out on your preferred times. See you all around the pool. Jodi & Lindsay We also see this from the children s perspective - that you are not interested in what they are doing or how they are improving and that you don t care. Your children want your approval and encouragement. They want you to watch and to be involved. So, please put your phone away whilst you are at the pool and be an active part of your child s visit to our centre. You might be surprised at the difference doing something so simple can make to everyone.
2 LOST AND FOUND DEPARTMENT Each year we collect an amazing array of clothing, swimwear, footwear, head gear and things you can only imagine. If you are missing something, please ask at the Front Desk and we will check for you. Clothing items are generally kept in the basket out on the desk in the Pool Area. Valuables such as jewellery, watches and phones are kept behind the front desk. A BETTER PLACE TO BE Some simple guidelines that will make our pool a nicer place to visit. NO CHEWING GUM in the nappy bins. TOYS ON SIDE OF POOL - please don t touch. CHILDREN S BEHAVIOUR - don t bury your head in your phone, watch your child. ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE, ELIMINATE THE NEGATIVE when discussing swimming with and in front of children. (So don t say She s terrified of the Deep End in front of your child, or He doesn t like getting his head wet.) CHANGING CLASSES : always check at the front desk, don t just change things yourself or only with your instructor, the system needs to be updated. MOVING UP LEVELS - Parents are reminded that their instructors will decide whether your child will move up a level or not please don t move them up yourself. It can put unnecessary pressure on the instructor and the rest of the class to have, for example, children who are not tall enough to walk around the pool independently or lacking maturity, in by themselves. There is a reason they are still in the level they are in. If you believe they need to be reassessed, please ask at the front desk. PASSPORTS: Please remember to bring in your child s passport at the beginning of term. If you believe you have lost the passport you can purchase a replacement for $3 at the front desk. Families with children in Water Babies and Water Prep classes are reminded to bring in an EMPTY, clearly labelled USB (minimum 8gb). Use it like a shopping bag empty it onto your computer and bring it in clean. OUR MINERAL SALT SANITISED SMALL POOL In August last year Lindsay and I attended a Swimming and Spa Expo in Melbourne and became aware of some mineral salts that we could add to our pools to soft the water and reduce the irritation often caused by the calcium hardness (from adding granulated Chlorine). When we returned we sourced the salts through Poolquip and began adding them to the pools. The difference was noticeable and we continued to add the salts when needed. In December we enquired about the latest salt water chlorination technology and were delighted to discover that there was a new system available that worked with the Mineral Salts we had been using. In January we installed the new system on our Small Pool and have been very impressed with the results thus far. I am sure that you will also notice the difference. Feedback from our clients has been very positive. There are a couple of things that you need to know that will help us to maintain our lovely, clean sparkly pool. 1) If you use moisturisers or oils on your children (or yourself) please wash them off in a quick shower before entering the pool. This includes ointments (medicated and non-medicated), emulsifying creams and QV lotions. 2) Mums wearing foundation or make-up are asked to give their faces a quick rinse off before entering the pool. Information on the Theralux Advanced Mineral Pool system is available at SWIMWEAR CHOICES Some bathers are great for the beach and others are great for swimming lessons. Often what suits one situation, won t suit the other. Rash Vests: Usually worn at the beach or at outdoor pools to protect your child from the sun. Instructors wear them to stop their bathers chafing as they are often in the water for a minimum 3 hours. Our pool is indoors and your children are not in the water for more than an hour. Please leave Rash Vests at home (especially for the Big Pool classes). Board Shorts: Usually worn by surfie dudes. Long in the leg to stop chafing from lying down on the surfboards. Not suitable for Swimming Lesson if they are too loose and come down past the knee. Bikinis : Usually worn by young women hanging out on the beach or at the pool, either seeking attention from boys or seeking a suntan. Skimpy Bikinis are not appropriate swimwear for swimming lessons. Two piece tankini styles are great, as are the two piece crop top, racer styles. But anything with a tie around the neck should be avoided. Bathers that are TOO Small / Big : You wouldn t send them to school or childcare wearing clothes that are far too small, see-through or stretched and baggy. Please don t bring them to swimming in similar bathers. Floatie Bathers : These are bathers with inbuilt flotation such as inflatable pockets or pieces of foam. Not suitable for swimming lessons. Wetsuits : Great for surfing, scuba diving and winter days at the beach but not for Swimming Lessons. Is this your child? Ask for a FREE copy of our great book Betty s Swimming Lesson written for children who are too scared to get in the pool and don t want to have lessons.

Please.. take your child/children to the pool at least once a week between lessons to have a play and a practice.
10 LOST AND FOUND DEPARTMENT Each year we collect an amazing array of clothing, swimwear, footwear, head gear and things you can only imagine.
