3 LYMPH ACTIVATING SAUNA The heat that activates A playful way to perform the sauna ritual. A wellbeing and leisure ritual at the same time that actively engages the sauna participants, inebriated by the aromas, music and heat exchanges. A dry sauna that is very effective for detoxifying the body, increased by stimulating the skin with special brushes made with Tampico (a completely natural fibre obtained from Mexican agave leaves, dried, beaten and scraped to preserve the tenacious filamentous parts). The body has five main routes for the elimination of waste substances: the colon, kidneys, liver, lungs and skin. Of these, the skin is the largest organ for the elimination of toxins, so that it is sometimes called the third kidney because of its role in the detoxification of the body. In fact, up to 1/3 of all the impurities of the body are expelled through the skin and it is always the first organ to show symptoms of imbalance and toxicity. If the skin is unable to release toxins efficiently, rashes, acne, hives, itching or even eczema and psoriasis may occur. Dry skin brushing is a simple and effective way to facilitate the elimination of toxins. It is an old European method promoted by many naturopathic doctors such as Sebastian Kneipp, the father of hydrotherapy, in the natural treatment movement. It is a practice that eliminates a lot more waste matter than any soap and, combined with the strong stimulation of a sauna, it brings significant health benefits to the body. 3
4 Settings Temperature: Humidity: 10% - 20% Preparation of the cabin Air the cabin before switching it on Switch on at least 15 minutes prior to treatment Prepare the water bucket with water and the desired essence chosen from the Carmenta essences kit Preparation of the client Take off your shoes before entering. Enter barefoot Enter and lay a natural fibre sheet on the bench It is always better to have a shower and dry the body well before entering It is advised not to enter wearing contact lenses It is common to feel a slight tickling sensation the first few times the brush is used. As the lymphatic system gradually activates, the feeling will transform into pure pleasure. Diet Drink a hot herbal tea (avoid cold drinks) before entering. Do not enter on a totally empty stomach or at the start of the digestive process. Avoid ingestion of animal proteins which take longer to digest; raw fruits and vegetables are preferable. At the end of the treatment, rehydrate the body with a remineralizing drink (herbal tea, fruit or vegetable juice or a not-too-cold beer to avoid congestion) and eat one/two wedges of raw apple to restore the proper balance of sugars, mineral salts and vitamins. Wornings Metal objects or jewelry that if they are not in full contact with the skin tend to heat up and to burn. We recomend not enter with jewelry, watches, etc... Swimsuits traditional not resist high temperature. Get naked or covered only with fabrics that do not melt at high temperatures The bucket of the sauna and the ladle, being wood, They are highly flammable. After the sauna, take them out and prop them ever on the brazier. 4
5 How to do it 1. Have a shower and dry the body well 2. First entry: minutes as desired and in any case remain until the temples start to throb. This is the sign that the body has warmed up sufficiently. As soon as you enter, put one/two ladles of water (the amount depends on the desired degree of humidity) in the stones. Please note: the more humidity in the cabin, the higher the perceived temperature. NEVER overdo it with the water so as to always keep the humidity below 20% 3. Immediately begin to brush the body with the dry brush. Brush using long strokes and be more gentle where the skin is thin (e.g. stomach, inner thighs, inner arms...) and apply more pressure where the skin is thicker. In particular, using the indications and illustrations from the book Natural Healing by Dr. Jack Soltanhoff: Hands and fingers Keeping the fingers of the right hand extended, brush each finger up and down 7 times. Rub the entire palm of the hand from the wrist to the fingertips back and forth seven times, then do the same for the back of the hand. With the palm facing downward, brush the space between the thumb and forefinger back and forth 14 times. Repeat with the left hand. Arms Brush the whole right forearm from the wrist to the elbow, going upwards towards the heart, 7 times. Then continue from the elbow to the shoulder, always towards the heart, 7 times. Repeat with the left arm. Feet and legs Brush the entire sole of the right foot back and forth seven times. Then repeat on the left foot. It is likely that in the beginning you will feel a slight tickle. Brush the back of the toes back and forth seven times. Then repeat on the underside of the toes. Starting from the fingers, brush the top of the foot from left to right, 7 times for each zone, moving upwards till you reach the ankle. Brush around the ankle, back and forth 7 times. Brush from ankle to knee upwards towards the heart 7 times; gradually work on the entire surface of the leg including the knee area. The brushing will firm the knees and also improve the circulation at the back of the knee. While standing, brush from above the knee to the groin, always towards the heart, 7 times. Gradually work around the thigh to cover every centimeter. Repeat on the left leg Note: In case of skin blemishes caused by cellulite or retention, double or triple the number of strokes in these areas. Note: In case of skin blemishes caused by cellulite or retention, double or triple the number of strokes in these areas. Neck / Base of the head Hold the brush with two hands firmly on the base of the head, at the back, so the brush stays in the same place. Then oscillate it 14 times up and down and 14 from right to left. This will stimulate the pituitary gland, the main gland of the body. Holding the brush in the right hand, place it on the jaw just below the ear, on the right side of the head. Slide it gently along the jaw, stopping under the chin, 7 times. Repeat on the left side. While holding the brush in the right hand at the nape of the neck, slide it gently on the right side of the neck until you reach the front of the larynx. Repeat 7 times. This activates the thyroid and the absorption of calcium by the parathyroid. Repeat on the left side. Holding the brush in the right hand, place it on the spine at the level of the seventh cervical vertebra (where you can feel, then bring it gently to the right side up to the small cavity at the top of the sternum, just below the Adam s apple, 7 times. This stimulates the thymus, the gland that controls the immune system. Hold the brush in your left hand and repeat on the other side. 5
6 Lymphatic system Hold the brush firmly in the right hand in the left armpit region. Holding the brush in the same place, rotate it 7 times in a clockwise direction and 7 times in a counterclockwise direction. Repeat on the other armpit Stand up and continue the sequence in this position Hold the brush firmly on the right groin with both hands, then turn it 7 times in a clockwise direction and 7 times in a counterclockwise direction. Repeat on the left groin. Front and sides of the body Holding the brush in the right hand, brush the right side of the trunk up and down 14 times from the top of the thigh up to the armpit. Women should take care to hold the breast with the free hand so as not to hinder the movement. Repeat on the other side Brush the abdomen from right to left. Brush the solar plexus and the surrounding area in a circular motion 14 times clockwise and 14 times in the opposite direction. Starting at the top and continuing downwards, complete the front part in all directions (7 times), avoiding the chest (for women) and the face because they are areas where the tissues are very sensitive. to this area because it will be very effective for various problems. 4. Get out and cool the body immediately and completely. If using a shower to cool down, start with the cold jet on the part of the body farthest from the heart in this sequence: right foot, left foot, right leg, left leg, right arm, left arm, chest and abdomen, back, and lastly, the head. 5. Second entry: minutes as desired and in any case remain until the temples start to throb. This is the sign that the body has warmed up sufficiently. 6. Get out and cool the body immediately and completely. If using a shower to cool down, start with the cold jet on the part of the body farthest from the heart in this sequence: right foot, left foot, right leg, left leg, right arm, left arm, chest and abdomen, back, and lastly, the head. 7. Lie on a bed wrapped in a dry bathrobe to facilitate the sweating reaction. According to Abbot Kneipp s instructions, the body wrap should be performed using the mummy technique. This wrapping technique allows the heat that develops during a treatment such as brushing to be retained around the body and become a mantle of heat that allows the regeneration of the vital forces. Back and buttocks Holding the brush with both hands, brush up and down 14 times along the spine, starting from the coccyx (the base of the back) and rising as far up as possible. Holding the brush with one hand, brush with up and down movements 14 times along the spine, starting from the base of the neck and going down as far as possible. Finish the back by brushing in all directions. Brush the buttocks in all directions covering the entire area 7 times, paying particular attention To finish Switch off the sauna and leave the door open. Once the sauna is cool, clean the surfaces and benches with a suitable cleaning product. For saunas with traditional wooden benches, clean the space under the benches thoroughly, making sure that there is no dust even in the most hidden corners (fire risk) Rinse the brush well and clean its bristles with a little disinfectant. Let the brush air dry well. a slight bump) 6
