1 Meet The Team - Head Coach Greg Werner - Assistant Coaches Russ Dekker and Brian Peresie - the ohio university swimming and diving team - support staff and services

2 The season will be Greg Werner s 16th year as head coach of the Ohio swimming and diving program. While at Ohio, he has extended the Bobcats tradition of success, guiding the team to numerous league and national accolades, including Mid-American Conference Women s Championships in 2000, 2001 and Werner is coming off a solid campaign in which his squad went 10-2 in dual meets and earned third place at the MAC Championships. While at the helm in , Werner s studentathletes earned three spots on the Mid-American Conference First Team (Rachel Heim, Amanda Traylor, Chelsey Bower) and one spot on the Second Team (Lindsay Hamilton). Junior Rachel Heim powered her way to four first-place finishes at the MAC Championships en route to earning co-mac Swimmer of the Year honors. Senior Chelsey Bower was also named the conference s Senior Swimmer of the Year for her great season. In addition to the great aforementioned athletic accomplishments, four Bobcats (Caitlin Drozin, Stella Johnson, Rachel Heim and Chelsey Bower) were named to the conference All-Academic Team in Greg Werner Head Coach Under the tutelage of Werner, Ohio swimmers have gained many accolades. He has coached seven MAC Swimmers of the Year (Joanne Park 98; Hollie Bonewit 99; Kim van Selm 2000, 01; Shannon Kelly 02; Ashley Marion 08, Rachel Heim 10), 19 Academic All-Americans and one All- American (Hollie Bonewit 2000). In addition, Werner has guided eight Bobcat swimmers to MAC Outstanding Senior Awards (MacNicol 97; Park 2000; Bresser 01; van Selm 02; Kessler 03; Kelly 04, Marion 09, Heim 10). Divers have also excelled under Werner s watch as Bobcat aerial specialists have landed the conference s top honor by being named Mid-American Conference Diver of the Year in 1998 (Kacy Culver) and in 2002, 2003 and 2004 (Robert Krichbaum). In addition to these great feats, four of Werner s student-athletes competed in the U.S. Nationals in July of Chelsey Bower, Amanda Cecere, Rachel Heim and Stacey Huber all competed in the competition. Werner has compiled a (.640) overall record at Ohio, including an impressive (.796) mark in women s dual meets. He has also guided the Bobcats in the classroom, where both his squads have been named NCAA Academic All-America teams for their COACHING RECORD AT OHIO Year Men Women Total TOTAL WIN% scholarly performance every season since After an extensive career on the collegiate and club levels, Werner came to Ohio following eight years at Southern Methodist University, where he helped the swimming and diving teams make the jump from a top-25 national ranking to four-consecutive national top-four finishes. At SMU, he helped the Lady Mustangs capture the 1992, 1993 and 1994 U.S. Open team titles. Those teams spawned seven NCAA Division I national champions, 32 Southwest Conference champions and over 75 NCAA All-America honors. Werner has made a splash nationally and internationally as he has been named to ten USA National Team staffs. Most recently, Werner was tabbed the team manager for the USA Swimming 2008 MAC CHAMPIONS

3 2009 World Championships squad, which competed in Rome, Italy. This latest appointment follows his service with the national teams representing the United States in the 1998 (New York City) and 2001 (Brisbane, Australia) Goodwill Games, the 2002 Pan- Pacific Championships (Yokohama, Japan) and the 2005 and 2007 World Championships in Montreal, Canada and Melbourne, Australia. In 1990 and 1993, Werner was on staff at the U.S. Olympic Festivals in Minneapolis and San Antonio. In 1995, he served on the U.S. staff at the Pan-American Games in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. Additionally, Werner was on the 1999 World University Games staff in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In 1991, he was the head coach of the North Texas Southern Zone championship team as well as the North Texas age group and national racing camps. Werner began his coaching career at South Carolina as a student assistant. During the season, the Gamecocks won the Metro Conference title and logged national finishes of 14th (women) and 23rd (men), while fielding 15 All-Americans. Swim Team. In just under 22 months, the U.S.S. Club leaped from 35th in the state to the second-ranked program. Werner is a native of New York City and was raised in the San Francisco Bay area where he earned All- America honors at Campolindo High School. He competed collegiately at the University of South Carolina, where he served as the captain of the conference-championship team and qualified for the NCAA Championships. Werner earned his bachelor s degree in hotel, restaurant and tourism administration from the University of South Carolina in Werner s 2008 MAC Championship team in Buffalo, N.Y. 4 Russ Dekker Diving Coach The season will be Russ Dekker s seventh year as the head diving coach at Ohio. Under Dekker s guidance, Ohio divers Lindsay Hamilton and MaryRose Hillstrom broke the school record for points in both the 1-meter and 3-meter six-dive events during en route to competing at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. Prior to Ohio, Dekker completed three seasons as the men s and women s diving coach at the University of Wyoming. During his tenure in Laramie, the Cowboys and Cowgirls established themselves as one of the elite diving programs in the Mountain West Conference, highlighted by six divers qualifying for the 2004 NCAA Zone E pre-qualification meet. Wyoming divers routinely were named to the all-conference team under Dekker s tutelage. Before going to Wyoming, Dekker was the Ypsilanti High School diving coach from and the assistant coach of the Legacy and Chippewa USA Diving clubs. During his time in Ypsilanti, Dekker coached three Michigan state diving champions, nine NISCA All-Americans and the 2001 national high school runner-up. Dekker was named the Michigan State High School Diving Coach of the Year for both 1999 and While with the Legacy Diving Club, he coached 11 junior national qualifiers and three senior national qualifiers. Dekker competed collegiately at Eastern Michigan University. He was selected the Mid-American Conference Diver of the Year in 1995 and was a four-time NCAA zone diving qualifier and a three-time Academic All-MAC selection. He helped lead Eastern Michigan to three MAC team championships in the four years he competed. While attending Eastern Michigan, Dekker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education with a minor in communications. Brian Peresie Assistant Coach The season will mark Brian Peresie s eighth year as the assistant coach of the Ohio swimming and diving team and his 13th as a Bobcat. Since returning to Ohio University as a coach in 2003, Peresie has played an integral role in developing 37 Mid- American Conference champions, 28 NCAA Qualifying performances and four USA World Championship qualifiers. During the season, Peresie served as the Macedonian National Team Coach at the FINA World Championships, held in Indianapolis, Ind. From , Peresie was an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator at Ashland University. While at Ashland he helped produce 19 NCAA All-American performances and 11 school records were broken. Prior to that, he was an age group assistant coach for the Lake Shore Swim Club in Rocky River, Ohio. Peresie attended Ohio from and went from a walk-on in 1996 to letter all four years in the freestyle events. He was also voted captain of the team as a junior and senior and served as a student-assistant for the fall quarter in Peresie is certified by the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) as a Level 4 coach - ranking among the top 8 percent of ASCA member coaches. Peresie and his wife, Emily, have one son, Brayden, and reside in Athens MAC CHAMPIONS

5 Courtney Werner Volunteer Assistant Coach Courtney Werner returns to Ohio University after a four year stint as the head assistant coach with the University at Buffalo Men s and Women s swimming & diving teams. During her stay at Buffalo, the Bulls steadily improved upon their conference championship finish culminating in a second-place finish at the 2010 Men s MAC Championships. As the primary coach for the distance group, Courtney used her experiences as a collegiate swimmer, both in and out of the water, to motivate the team to succeed beyond their own expectations. Two Buffalo swimmers broke school records in the 1650 Freestyle, two of the oldest records remaining in the program s history, and another swimmer reset the 500 Free standard. After finishing her collegiate eligibility at Ohio in 2004, Courtney began her coaching career as a graduate assistant coach from while earning her master s degree in Coaching Education. Her primary coaching responsibilities during this time involved working with the distance group, where she mentored the conference champion in the 1650 freestyle. While a swimmer at Ohio, Courtney focused mainly on the distance Freestyle events, specifically the 500 Free and the 1650 Free. She began her collegiate career as a walkon and graduated as a scholarhip student-athlete and a conference finalist in both the 500 and 1650 freestyles. It was a journey that she is very proud of and wouldn t change for any other.
