1 2010 USTA Pacific Northwest Points Per Round Ranking system and Standing List Points Per Round ranking system The USTA Pacific Northwest has adopted the Points Per Round ranking system and standings program in an effort to increase participation in local tournaments and conform with the ranking system used at the USTA National level. The Points Per Round system will make it easier than ever to obtain a section ranking by reducing the minimum number of tournaments required in many divisions and eliminating the Out of Area requirement. The player(s) are rewarded points based upon. 1. The round they reach within the tournament they play within the USTA Pacific Northwest. 2. The designated level of the tournament. Points will be awarded based on the tournament played and the currently published and applicable tournament base points table (See Table 2 below for the point values assigned to each tournament level.). A player s point total for each event is computed by adding the sum of the following: 1) Points won in the main draw. 2) Points earned for each consolation win. A player must win a match in the main draw to obtain main draw points. Completed match wins, retirement wins and default wins all count as matches won however Byes do not. Year end rankings are based on participation in the 2010 calendar year. Standings and Year End Rankings will be based on a player s best results in up to four (4) tournaments in the senior women s divisions and two to five (2-5) in many of the men s divisions. Please see Table 1 below. This will encourage players to play more than the minimum number of tournaments required in an attempt to increase their point totals and thus improve their ranking. Players who are unable to play more than the minimum will be able to increase their point total by concentrating on the tournaments with higher point values. Because the Points Per Round system limits the number of tournaments considered when calculating a ranking, it will prevent a relatively weak player from achieving a high ranking simply by playing more tournaments than his/her competitors over the course of the season. It will also encourage players who have a successful early season record to

2 continue to participate. Most importantly the overall accuracy of the final rankings will be much improved. USTA Pacific Northwest Standing Lists The USTA Pacific Northwest Standing List for adults and seniors will be published bimonthly and may be obtained on the USTA Pacific Northwest web site at Scroll over Adults/Seniors and click on Standings. These lists will be calculated using all match results from the previous 52 weeks (rolling 12 month calendar) that have been entered into the ranking database at the time the respective age division is being published. The Standing List is NOT a Ranking List. The requirement for being included on a Standing List is less rigorous than to be on a Ranking List as a player need only to complete one tournament to be included on a Standing List. Corrections or inquiries regarding the Standing List must be submitted by only to ustaappeals@aol.com. Results considered for Standing and final Ranking Lists Year end Rankings are based on the tournament performances January 1 through December 31 st Only USTA sanctioned tournaments played within the USTA Pacific Northwest will be considered for section Standing and Ranking Lists. In order for tournament results to count, tournament directors must have entered complete results into the tournament management database. Minimum Requirements In order to be eligible for a USTA Pacific Northwest ranking in singles and/or doubles, a player must play in the minimum number of tournaments in the age division in which the player seeks to obtain a ranking. In order to receive a yearend ranking, a player must have a minimum of 50 points.
