5 Also please note that family members will be dropping off athletes/partners on Saturday morning and then, after briefly meeting the coach(s), they will be asked to leave the facility. We are also asking family members to respect the Training Camp and not attend any practice sessions or activities throughout the weekend, with the exception of the Family Meeting. One of the key purposes of Training Camp is to ensure that each athlete can handle overnights away from family members (as will be the case at the USA Games). Families are not to stay at the Ramada Plaza! This training camp is for the Current Nominees for Team Maryland. Alternates will not be in attendance at the Training Camp. Area programs are tasked with raising the funds to support the training, travel, housing, etc. for all of our SOMO delegates and although SOMD (Maryland Special Olympics) will be giving each Area Program a lot of fund raising support, it is the task of SOMO to raise over $60,000.00! Each of the delegates, as a condition of their eligibility for selection, has committed to fully participate in these efforts, and we are forming a USA Games Committee to plan and execute fund-raising efforts. We have to hit the road running as we intend to develop sport specific fund-raising events and initiatives that reflect the sports of the SOMO delegates so that the community will have the opportunity to financially support our athletes and coaches AND to get to know them! This is the OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY OF SOMO s LIFETIME! I hope that the whole SOMO family will join in this effort and embrace this goal: to raise the funding support for USA Games 2018 AND MORE IMPORTANTLY: to raise awareness of the abilities and gifts that each of our Team Maryland - USA Games delegates brings to our communities.
