1 Homecoming 2009 Under the Tent! All the Saints anticipate that autumn evening when we gather as a family for food, fun, and football! The TPS Boosters kicked off Homecoming 2009 in the DAC with terrific BBQ and entertainment of lively jazz provided by the Good Times Jazz Band and our own Saints cheerleaders. The Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony followed dinner, honoring former Saints athletes JT Willett 78 and Mike Villanueva 95, and Girls Varsity Tennis Coach Sally Flynn. Headmaster Maughan recounted their accomplishments and the recipients shared inspirational remarks about their Trinity Prep experiences. The fans moved to the football field to watch the match-up between the Trinity Prep Saints and the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders. Alumni viewed the proceedings from their own special viewing area behind the end zone at the south end of Hubbard Field under the tent! Class floats, presentation of current middle school children of alumni parents and the Homecoming Court, and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King provided the half-time entertainment. Reunions and refreshments rounded out the evening, and alumni in attendance agreed that the Homecoming Alumni Tent is a great addition to the tradition! Go Saints! 16

5 2009 Trinity Prep Athletic Hall of Fame Sally Flynn, Varsity Tennis Coach from During Coach Flynn s 25-year tenure, her teams compiled a record, won 13 District Championships, 7 Region Championships, and made 11 appearances at the State Tennis Tournament. In addition the girls #1 doubles team enjoyed the #1 state ranking for 5 years, winning 35 consecutive regular season matches. In 2006 Sally was honored by the Orlando Sentinel as the winningest tennis coach in Central Florida. Coach Flynn had the same goals each year for her teams: to get the most out of each girl s game no matter what her skill level, to coach each girl to win at each level, to instill in them the love of playing, to win and lose graciously, and to always play fair. Mike Villanueva 95, varsity letters in Football, Basketball, Soccer, and Track Mike was a versatile athlete who excelled in every sport he played. In football he played running back, wide receiver and defensive back. Mike was the 1993 recipient of the Orlando Sentinel Golden Helmet Award, earned All-State, All-County, and All- District as a junior and a senior; he was the leading rusher and receiver on the team. As a junior Mike was a member of the basketball team and earned All-Conference honors. In his senior year he was a member of the soccer team and earned All- Conference, All-County and All-State honors. In Track, Mike ran the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, was a member of the 4x100 relay, and threw the discus. He was the District Champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. In 1995 Mike set school records for the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.9 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.6 seconds. Mike earned All-County and All-State recognition as a junior and senior in track. Mike continued his football career in college, at Abilene Christian University. 20 John T. Willett 78, Football, Basketball, Track, and Wrestling J.T. earned four varsity letters in football including as a 7th grader, playing on the varsity team. As an offensive tackle, he was a key factor in opening holes for the running backs and as defensive tackle he took great pleasure in shutting down the opponents running game and sacking the quarterback. He was the leading tackler on the 1977 State Runner-Up team and in one game was credited with 14 tackles, 5 sacks, and 2 recovered fumbles. J.T. was a respected leader both on and off the field. He was the first recipient of the Florence Ann Hay Memorial Award, Student Council President and captain of the football team his senior year, and was selected to the 1978 All-State Football team. He also earned three varsity letters in Track, one in Basketball, and one in Wrestling where he placed 3rd in the Junior Olympic State AAU tournament. Upon graduation J.T. played football at the University of Arkansas for one year before an injury ended his playing days.
