The Roadrunners have surrendered only one set in conference play but have also had the advantage of playing all of their league matches at home. hits the road this weekend for a match at Middle Tennessee. Atop the Hill After the dust had settled on the first week of conference play, three teams emerged with unscaithed C-USA records. Apart from, and WKU each went unbeaten over the weekend. The Herd opened up with a road win at before taking care of business with back-to-back home wins, while WKU swept LA Tech on the road before protecting the Diddle in a five-set victory over the longtime regional rival Blue Raiders. Dig Pink Month in Conference USA Dig Pink is the name of the Side-Out Foundation s national October breast cancer rally. A Dig Pink event can be organized at the local, county, city or state level, and it is supported by college and middle/high school volleyball coaches and teams as well as club coaches and teams. All proceeds benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing patient services to breast cancer patients and their families. Matches Preview All 13 teams are in action in week six. League play begins with a midweek matchup between I-45 rivals and in Denton on Wednesday. C-USA Players of the Week Offensive Player of the Week - Ally Kiekover Kiekover turned in a.583 hitting percentage in the final three games of the match to help the Herd win its sixth consecutive C-USA opener with a comeback 3-2 win over the 49ers. The sophomore turned in a personal best 17 kills in the match, also adding one solo rejection and two block assists. Against, she turned in a team and season-high.550 hitting percentage, where she also collected two solo blocks and helped the Herd win its third straight home match and third C-USA match in a row. The Michigan native has led the squad for three consecutive matches in kills and has 166 on the season with a season average of 2.59 kills per set. This is the first C-USA Player of the Week award for Kiekover s career. Defensive Player of the Week - Jillian Shemanski Shemanski recorded a season-high four solo blocks in Sunday s match against and leads the conference with 70 total blocks, averaging 1.23 blocks per set. The junior recorded a huge rejection in the Friday match against Middle Tennessee to swing the momentum back in s favor. She also collected 16 kills during the week and turned in a.375 hitting percentage against. It is the first C-USA Player of the Week honor for Shemanski. Setter of the Week - Jessica Waldrip Waldrip set a career high with 59 assists against Florida Atlantic and was riding a streak of fivestraight matches with 40+ assists until that was snapped in s sweep of instate rival North Texas (37). The Texas native now has six doubledoubles following the 37-assist performance the Mean Green, where she also tacked on 14 digs. This is Waldrip s second straight C-USA Player of the Week honor and fourth in her career, having earned back-to-back setter of the week honors in the 2013 season (Oct. 28 and Nov. 4).

The Roadrunners collected 161 points in the preseason votes as selected by the league s 13 head coaches Conference USA Volleyball Preseason Poll WKU T5. Southern Miss T5. 7. Middle Tennessee Florida Atlantic The Roadrunners produced a 24-8 overall record and 13-1 league mark in Head coach LAURA NEUGEBAUER-GROFF welcomes back 10 letterwinners and six starters from that squad for her 13th season at the helm. Newcomer WKU was selected second, placing three student-athletes on the preseason all-conference team, including preseason Player of the Year NOELLE LANGENKAMP. The Hilltoppers won the 2013 Sun Belt regular season at 17-1 and finished 27-6 overall. Langenkamp was named to the 2013 Sun Belt All-Conference First Team. The 6-2 junior middle hitter finished her sophomore season ranked 15th in the nation with a.411 hitting percentage, helping WKU rank third in Division I with a.312 mark. Langenkamp also ranked ninth in the league with 2.96 kills per set, including 14 against No. 15 Florida State, and SBC-only 3.19 kills per set. Libero Michelle Hovey (junior) is just 209 digs away from becoming the 18th member of s 1,000-dig club. welcomes two transfers and four freshman, who join the nine returners from Five of the nine returners for played in all 29 matches last season. will look for added offense in 2014 after losing 618 kills (46% of the team s total) due to graduating seniors Amanda Videmsek and Taylor Cannon. The Panthers return five players from last year s squad, including junior outside hitter Lucia Castro and junior libero/defensive specialist Adriana McLamb. Five members of this year s roster were also members of the 2014 Panther sand volleyball team that made a run at the AVCA Colligate National Championships: Martyna Gluchowicz, Kristine Monforte, Tina Toghiyani, Maria Coukoulis and Natalie Martinez. Castro is the Panthers returning kills leader after posting 317 kills in She finished 20th in C-USA with 2.94 kills-per-set last season. Sophomore Anabela Sataric takes over as the starting setter this season. Last year she led the Panthers in hitting percentage with a clip of.333. She was also third on the team in assists posting 230 total assists and 3.97 assists-per-set. welcomes an impressive 12 newcomers, one senior, four juniors and seven freshmen. Florida Atlantic The Owls will look to build off of a 2013 season in which they qualified for the conference tournament for the first time in seven years. FAU will be an experienced bunch, returning six players who played in all 30 matches last season and five players who had at least 100 kills. Fernanda Nelson begins her third season at the helm of the FAU volleyball program, having nearly doubled her win total from 2012 to The Owls also welcome six newcomers to the team for LA Tech returns eight letterwinners (three starters + libero) this season, the most in Adriano de Souza s three-year tenure with the team. The six upperclassmen (three seniors, three juniors) on the 2014 squad makes this the program s most experienced team since the 2010 LA Tech volleyball season. LA Tech faces three in-state schools this season McNeese State, New Orleans and Grambling State. The Lady Techsters have a combined series record against those three opponents. For the second consecutive season, LA Tech will host a home invitational in the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston. The Lady Techsters welcome New Orleans, UTPA and Stephen F. Austin on Sept LA Tech has played a total of 241 matches against its 2014 opponents and has a combined record (.506 win %) against teams it will face this season. The Herd returned to the C-USA championship for a second consecutive year in 2013, defeating, 3-2, before falling to Tulsa 3-0 in the second round. Senior setter Sammie Bane currently sits at fourth all-time in history with 3,663 assists. A C-USA second-team selection last season, Bane was awarded preseason honors this year. Head coach Mitch Jacobs enters his 13th season at and earned his 400th career win during the 2013 campaign. Jacobs currently sits at 405 all-time victories.

MT will bring a mix of youth and experience to the court as nine players return from last season are joined by eight freshman, the most in head coach Matt Peck s tenure at MT. Peck is entering his 11th season at the helm for the Blue Raiders and will look for his 10th winning campaign in 11 years. Four returners from last season notched at least 100 kills for the Blue Raiders, including Preseason All-C-USA selection Chelsea Ross, who led the team in kills (391), kills-per-set (343) and service aces (31). MT will face three teams who played in the NCAA Tournament last year in its nonconference schedule, and 10 matches against opponents with an RPI of 100 or better. NT looks to be a team full of youth with a roster breakdown of 10 incoming freshmen, one sophomore, two juniors, and three seniors. The Mean Green faces three AVCA Preseason Ranked teams this season: No. 15 Missouri at home Aug. 30, No. 22 Kansas in Lawrence Sept. 19 and C-USA foe (RV) in San Antonio on Sept. 28 and at home on Nov. 13. NT looks to continue a string of successful season records when playing at home in front of an average attendance of 585 fans (official capacity is 600). When inside the intimidating atmosphere of the Volleyball Center, they has 25 wins and only 6 losses across the last two seasons. The Mean Green has crucial aspects of their offense returning this season in 2013 team kills leader Carnae Dillard (473 kills) and assists leader Amy Henard (1192 assists). Dillard also returns the second most digs with 371. returns six players who played in 25 or more matches, four of whom had over 100 kills. Genny Volpe begins her 11th season at the helm of the Owls and is just 23 wins shy of 200 for her career. With Noelle Langenkamp and Heather Boyan back at the net, WKU returns two of the nation s top hitters. The Lady Toppers are the only team in the country that returns two players ranked in the top 20 of hitting percentage last season. WKU head coach Travis Hudson enters his 20th season at the helm and he becomes the longest tenured coach on The Hill. Hudson went from a 7-26 record during his first season in 1995 to producing seven NCAA Tournament teams, 10 Sun Belt Conference regular-season championships and five SBC Tournament titles. Southern Miss Southern Miss boasts almost the entire 2013 roster intact as 13 letterwinners, including all six starters and the libero return in Offensively speaking, the Golden Eagles return 99 percent of their kills while returning 99 percent of their blocking and digs.
