4 UHCOUGARS.COM MEDIA INFORMATION CREDENTIALS All requests for working press, radio, television, photography or scouting credentials should be mailed, ed or faxed on letterhead to Assistant Director of Communications Kyle Rogers at least two days prior to the game. Season credential requests should be sent at least two weeks prior to the first game. All space for the working press, radio and television is allocated by the UH Athletics Communications Office, which reserves the right to deny credentials to any outlet. Spouses, dates, children, equipment carriers and non-workers are restricted from the press area, sidelines and locker rooms. Any abuse of a working credential will result in the media agency losing credential privileges. Freelance and/or non-daily writers may be asked to produce copies of actual publications in which their work has appeared. Admission to the press area is by pass only. Accreditation Guidelines ÑÑ Only full-time, salaried employees intending to provide actual game coverage may receive credentials. ÑÑ A requesting media agency must represent a collective, organizational editorial voice, not simply the offerings of a single individual. ÑÑ Membership in a writer s association does not automatically qualify an agency for credentials. ÑÑ A media agency may assign one of its credentials to its online entity. ÑÑ An online entity, not associated with a traditional media agency, may qualify for one credential, subject to the following conditions: 1. An online entity may receive a credential only if its own full-time staff writes a majority of that site s material. 2. Online entities that focus primarily on University of Houston Athletics and sponsor message boards or chat rooms, may receive credentials provided they adhere to a policy that requires that a posted message or opinion is identified with the actual name and city of the individual posting the message. 3. Any online service that is recognized as an outlet intended primarily for the purpose of delivering news related to the recruitment of student-athletes will not qualify for credentials. 4. Online entities will not receive photography credentials. 5. Online entities (other than those identified above) registering 20,000 legitimate unique users per month in each of the past 12 months will be given first consideration. Ron is the perfect fit for the Houston Volleyball staff. He exceeds in all of these categories and so many people spoke highly of his character, work ethic and knowledge of the game. Arenz coached seven years at Akron where he led the Zips to several Mid-American Conference tournament berths and some of the best seasons in the school s history. UA exhibited the greatest single-season turnaround in the Mid-American Conference and of any Division I team in the country in 2012, posting a 12- win improvement from 2011 and recording its best overall record since Akron also advanced to the MAC Tournament quarterfinals for the first time in nine seasons as the No. 5 seed after it was picked to finish last in the league s preseason poll. Prior to Akron, Arenz was the Head Coach at the University of West Alabama for two seasons (2007, 2008). In just his second year at the helm, Arenz led the UWA program to a top 25 ranking in the CSTV/AVCA Division II poll for the first time in school history. Under his watch, the Tigers posted the fourth winning season in the program s 29-year history with a 27-6 record (8-4 Gulf South Conference). RON ARENZ ASSISTANT COACH Second Season at Houston Before taking the head job at UWA, Arenz held assistant positions with three Division I programs. He spent one season as an assistant coach at Michigan State University ( ), three seasons at Western Michigan ( ) and one season at the University of Denver ( ), all in the same capacity. Arenz began his career in the volleyball hotbed of the west coast for the California Juniors Volleyball Club in Long Beach, Calif. Serving both as head and assistant coach, his California Juniors teams won multiple championships in the 18- and 16-under divisions of the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA). During that time, Arenz trained nine U.S. Junior Olympic All-American players, two Volleyball Magazine Fab-50 players and one U.S. Junior National Team member. Following his stint with the California Juniors, Arenz coached for the Colorado Foothills VBC in Denver, Colo. and the Dead Frogs of Kalamazoo, Mich. In 2001, he coached the Dead Frogs team to a Michigan Regional 16-under Championship. He was selected to coach Michigan s inaugural Lakeshore Region High Performance team in the 2005 USAV High Performance National Championships. Arenz is a 1995 graduate of Long Beach State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Geography. He also received his Master of Education from National University in Arenz and his wife, Noelle, will reside in Houston. The couple has three sons, Jay, and twins, Kai and Christian. Beginning with its inaugural postseason appearance in 1972, the Cougars compiled seven other AIAW National appearances, highlighted by a third place finish in In 1989, former head coach Bill Walton led the Cougars to its first NCAA appearance and followed that up with an N.I.V.C Championship in Houston made ten consecutive NCAA appearances from that included the Cougars magical run to the Elite Eight in AIAW NATIONALS SANTA BARBARA, CALIF.
