Shut down the swamp cooler remove cooler pads and shut off the water, protect any exposed water pipes on the roof. Change the direction of ceiling fans changing the direction creates an upward draft that redistributes warm air from the ceiling. Test and change the batteries in your smoke and carbon dioxide detectors No one likes to wake up in the middle of the night to a chirping detector. These units stop working after 7 to 10 years so make sure yours is properly working and replace any non-functioning units. Inspect your driveway for cracks clean out any cracks and repair with driveway filler. Follow up with a coat of commercial sealer. Clean out and repair rain gutters remove any debris that may have accumulated during the summer monsoons. Check windows for drafts, loose frames, cracked panes or ripped screens. Prune shrubs remove dead or damaged branches. Remove dead trees cut up the tree for fire wood. Rake up leaves and tree debris like mesquite beans. Don t forget the weeds. Replenish the gravel in your front yard. Repaint the house use the approved color palette. Repair/paint the fence follow the Meadowbrook Design Guidelines. Enjoy the cooler temperatures.
3 The Board needs You! The Board of Directors for Meadowbrook are volunteers who share an interest in giving back to the community; in protecting property values and keeping Meadowbrook a great place to live. There are currently vacancies on the Board and the current Board needs your help in setting the future course for Meadowbrook. Many of the Directors have been on the Board for several terms as no one steps forward to give a few hours to give back to the Community. The Board is responsible for making policies, setting the budget, deciding where the assessment money goes. You too, can have a say in these decisions. If you are in good standing with the Association and have just a few hours to give to Associationrelated business, including the availability to attend a Board meeting every other month, then you are encouraged to consider being a part of the Board. The Annual Meeting will soon be coming up and the Board will be seeking candidate nominations to fill vacancies and expiring terms. Now is the time to get involved. 4 Winter Heating Schedule for the Pool The pool heaters will be turned off Monday, November 30 th for the winter. The spa will be heated through the winter Pumpkin Bread baked in Coffee Cans 3 cups Sugar 4 eggs 1 cup cooking oil 1/2 tsp salt 2 TBSP Pumpkin Pie Spice 2 cups canned Pumpkin =(1) 15 oz can) 3 tsp soda 1 tsp vinegar 3 1/2 cups unsifted self-rising flour 2/3 cup cold water Directions: Cream sugar and oil together Add eggs and pumpkin. Beat well. Add 1 cup of flour, spices and vinegar and mix well. Mix soda in 2/3 cup cold water and add to mixture and mix well. Next, gradually add the rest of the flour (2 1/2 cups) and mix well. Add raisins, nuts, etc. whatever you prefer. Spray (4) 1 lb coffee cans with Pam cooking spray and add mixture to half full in each can. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and no less. Let cool about 5 min before removing from cans. Turn can upside down onto a plate and gradually shake can until bread comes out. Abandoned Vehicles. If a vehicle has been left unattended for 48 hours on a public street, which the streets in Meadowbrook are or for 72 hours on a common area parking lot, (pool parking lot) it is considered abandoned under the Arizona statutes. Contact the Pima County s Sheriff s nonemergency number and report the abandoned vehicle. The Sheriff s office will send out an officer to inspect and tag the vehicle. The vehicle may then be towed. Pima County has adopted the Arizona statutory parking regulations for areas outside the Tucson city limits. Pima County ordinances prohibit parking along streets, highways, avenues, alleys or parts thereof if these areas are posted with signs that prohibit parking. There are a number of these signs throughout the Meadowbrook community which the residents have chosen to ignore. If a Meadowbrook homeowner has concerns about street parking or street usage, please contact the Pima County Sheriff Department ( ). Neither the Association nor the Board of Directors has any control over the Pima County streets within the Meadowbrook Community.
5 Let the Light Shine If you drive the streets of our community at night you will notice many homes are dark in front without any coach lights or porch lights glowing. These lights help keep our sidewalks and streets illuminated at night, making our neighborhood safer. By turning on the lights by your garage and/or front door, you are aiding in the safe passage of our bike-peddling neighbors and evening walkers. You are also improving emergency response times by illuminating your house number. If your exterior light is not working due to a burnt out sensor, you can find replacement sensors at any home improvement store. If you need to replace your light fixture, which can usually be done at about the same cost as a new sensor, you certainly may do so but please don t forget to submit to the ARC if the fixture is going to look different to what you have now. Please keep a light on for your neighbors. Safety Helpful Hints A few helpful safety tips to assist in keeping your home and possessions safe year round. Lock your windows and doors and if you have a home alarm system, advertise and activate it. Consider locking your yard gate(s) to limit free access to your back yard, where criminals can more easily go un-noticed. Keep landscaping trimmed to reduce the possibility of someone hiding behind it or in it. Lift the bottoms of bushes so that there is at least of clearance from the ground, making legs and feet visible and, particularly in front of windows, keep plantings low enough so that you can clearly see if someone is standing behind them. Bushes or trees that obscure the entry to the home should also be trimmed. The goal is to eliminate the ability for someone to hide while they are prying open a window or forcing open a door. If you re going out at night, turn your porch and/or coach lights on so that a would-be thief does not have the benefit of darkness to break into your home. Get to know your neighbors. Know their names, faces and phone numbers. Keep an eye out for each other. If you get the paper delivered and are going to be out of town, have a vacation hold placed on your account or ask a neighbor to pick them up for you so that it s not obvious that your home is unoccupied due to newspapers piling up in the driveway. In addition to old newspapers, watch out for other markers. Markers are used by those who are up to no good. They are placed in a particular spot in someone s yard or on their home, such as boards, flyers or other objects. Criminals check on the markers to see if you are home or if you are paying attention to your surroundings to identify vulnerable residents. Never hesitate to call 911 or the Pima County Sheriff s non-emergency number at (520) Law enforcement officials encourage people to call and report suspicious activity. You don t have to wait to be a victim before you call the police for help. If something or someone doesn t look or feel right, trust your gut and make the call.
