3 Instructions for the Rolling Spike Update Start out by raising machine all the way up and install cylinder transport lock on transport cylinders. Identify the appropriate gangs to be reworked by comparing the updated machine layout drawing with your existing gang arrangement. Determine which gangs need feathering wheels and which gangs need blank spools. Arrange the new parts around the machine gangs as shown in the update layout drawing. Use a ratchet strap (15) or chain to hold one end of rolling spike gang up to rolling spike tube (1). Do one end at a time so you do not have to drop whole gang assembly from machine. Drive the spirol roll pin out of 1 1/2 slotted hex nut (2) on end of rolling spike gang bolt (3). Remove slotted hex nut (2) and machine washers (4) from rolling spike gang bolt (3), then remove 5/8 hex nut (5) and 5/8 lock washer (6) from 5/8 u- bolt (7). Slide bearing hanger and bearing flange (8) off end of rolling spike gang bolt (3). Remove spider wheel spacer (9) and spider wheel and replace spider wheel with feathering wheel (10) or blank spool (11). Refer to placement drawings for correct placement of updated parts. Re-assemble all the rest of the parts in the order they were taken off. Tighten 1 1/2 slotted hex nut (2) to foot pounds. Replace spirol roll pin with 1/4 x 2 3/4 Gr. 8 hex bolt (12), 1/4 flat washers (13) and nylon lock nut (14). When you have all the updated parts installed you will need to check the placement of the assembled gangs with the placement drawings. The X dimension shows the distance from end of rolling spike tube to the leading edge of the ball joint bracket. To slide the gang assembly, loosen the appropriate u-bolts (7) or hex bolts and slide gang assembly to their proper location.
