Please leave a message on our answering machine including your child s name, homeroom and the reason they will be absent. The answering machine is available 24/7. Please call or esgattend@spschools.org Staff Parking Lot Safety For the safety of our children and due to the increase in our teaching staff this year, we do not have any parking provided for the parents within our school parking lot. It is important that you only park on the street. It is important that you do not park in the assigned parking spots even if you feel you will only be a moment. In that moment could be when the staff member is trying to get into his or her parking spot.

3 A.M. Student Drop-Off We provide a safe drop-off opportunity in the morning for our children. Parents enter the east parking lot and proceed in order to the drop-off point which is located one car length in front of the crosswalk. Students may only exit the vehicle at this drop off point. Parents will wait in line until it is their turn to use the designated drop off point. Students will then proceed onto the crosswalk and go to their assigned doors. For parent vehicles to access the a.m. student drop-off they must be traveling westbound on Akins Drive. Parent vehicles are directed to keep on the extreme left-hand side of the drop-off area. Parent vehicles must yield to buses which will be dropping off students on the extreme right-hand side of the roadway. No stopping will be permitted in the marked crosswalk area. There is a parking lot supervisor to assist. This drop-off protocol will occur from 8:35 8:50 a.m. Thank you. Individual Student Photos Smile! Mark your calendar for the individual student photos. Individual student photos will be on Friday, Sept. 12 th in the school gym 9:00 am. Last Minute Calls Just a reminder that the front office is very busy between 2:30 and 3:15 pm and we are unable to take calls at this time to tell children any last minute changes or arrangements for after school. For the Safety of our Children: Please note the following are offences that the bylaw officer will monitor. Please DO NOT make a U-Turn in the driveway or anywhere in the school zone. Please DO NOT block the driveway or the cross walk when you are letting your children out of your vehicle. Please encourage your children to use the crosswalk. Please encourage your children to use the correct entry door for their grade before 9:00 am, at lunch hour and after school. This is just a reminder that the doors are locked during the day. After 9:00 am you will only have access to the school through the front door.

4 RCMP Ask Drivers to Respect the Law St. Albert RCMP is reminding all Drivers that even when mornings are rushed, all traffic laws must be obeyed. Common problems that the RCMP is seeing are: Backing up unsafely or interfering with traffic people pulling into residential driveways and backing out into traffic = $115 fine Make U-turns in urban area between intersections people dropping off their children and then pulling a U-turn to leave the area in the opposite direction = $115 fine Stop or Park within 1.5 meters from driveway = $57 fine Stop or Park where prohibited by traffic control device (signs) = $57 fine Stop or park on roadway side of motor vehicle parked or stopped at curb or edge of roadway (double parking) = $57 fine Stop or park within 5 meters of a fire hydrant = $57 fine Stop or park within 5 meters of a marked crosswalk = $57 fine This all means drivers cannot stop or park next to small boulevards where they are too close to crosswalks, fire hydrants and driveways. Please plan your day to give you extra time to find legal parking areas and then walk your child to school. If the signs at the school indicate pickup or drop off, you are not to leave your vehicle. Your child gets out and walks to the school and you pull away. Simpler yet, send them on the school bus. The goal is to get all students to and from school safely no matter how rushed anyone is.

5 **We are striving to be a nut free school at Elmer Gish** We request NO NUTS, PEANUTS OR PEANUT PRODUCTS BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL. Pizza Lunch Pizza lunch is available every Friday. Students purchase a ticket in the front foyer Friday mornings before classes. You can purchase 1/4 of a pizza for $4.00. Students will then pick up their pizza from the front foyer when the lunch bell rings at 12:12. Our first Pizza Day will be Friday, September 19. Snack/Juice/Water Vending Machines Two coin operated machines are located in the main hallway for student use. Please have your child bring the exact change as the office will not have change on site for these machines and they do not take paper bills. Thank you.
