4 Player Ratings Players are rated to create next year s teams Note strong/weak players throughout season Plan on attending October meeting to discuss skill, attendance, and attitude

6 AYSO Philosophy: Player Development Read your coach manuals, watch the videos Prioritize your training - keep it simple Don t lecture, keep them moving Set individual and team goals Learn from any situation Train during the week, play on the weekend Focus on helping kids reach their potential, and wanting to come back for more

7 Division Guidelines 7U/8U Highlights: Players on field: 4 (3 min.); on team: 12 (Jamboree style) Teams should be split evenly in number and talent Field size is much smaller Throw-ins allowed No goalkeepers, no offside No referees No slide tackling or headers No score, no standings, no playoffs

8 Division Guidelines 10U Highlights: Players on field: 7 (5 minimum). 10 on roster*. Goalkeeper: May play 2 quarters, no punting Coaches & players on opposite side of field from parents Referees: 3-person teams + CVP program 25-minute halves, 5-minute halftime Throw-in rule: Enforced Slide tackling: Allowed, but not taught Headers: Not allowed, not taught Build-out line Lopsided scoring: Aim to keep goal differential below 4

9 Division Guidelines 12U Highlights: Players on field: 9 (6 minimum) Goalkeeper: May play 2 quarters, NEW: punting allowed Coaches & players on opposite side of field from parents Referees: 3-person teams + RVP program 30-minute halves, 5-minute halftime Offside/Throw-in laws: Enforced Slide tackling: Allowed Headers: Not allowed, not taught except for safety Misconduct: Verbal instruction, yellow cards, no red cards Lopsided scoring: Aim to keep goal differential below 4

10 Division Guidelines 14U Highlights: Players on field: 11 (7 minimum) Goalkeeper: May play whole game Coaches & players on opposite side of field from parents Referees: 3-person teams 35-minute halves, 5-minute halftime Offside/Throw-in laws: Enforced Slide tackling & Headers: Allowed Misconduct: Verbal instruction, yellow and red cards Lopsided scoring: Aim to keep goal differential below 4

12 Kids Zone Code of Conduct Kids are #1 Fun not winning is everything Respect referee decisions Model good sportsmanship No alcohol, drugs, weapons or tobacco Address misbehavior immediately

13 Coach, Spectator and Player Conduct Coaches are responsible for spectator and player conduct Referee evaluates coach conduct Excellent, Normal or Poor ratings One-point deduction from standings for Poor rating Ex.: Disrespectful talk, persistent spectator coaching Board administers sanctions for unacceptable behavior Regional conduct policy on coaches page at

14 Safety and Game Prep Be on time, which means early Help set up, take down, inspect fields Uniform and shin guards No jewelry, splints, braces, hair clips, etc. Prepare for severe/hot weather & hydration Pack sunscreen, hair bands, baggies Concussion awareness Soccer insurance

15 Field Safety No dogs (especially on turf fields) On turf fields: Water only No food No umbrellas/stakes No chairs on the turf surface On all fields: No adults playing vs. kids

17 Coach Game Day Requirements Badges: Must be worn in technical area Game cards: Must be filled out If you have last game, deliver to DC Substitutions: Ready players at halfway line, help refs record change not a coaching opportunity Technical area

19 Referees Keep the Game Safe, Fun and Fair No experience necessary Free AYSO training and mentoring Learn and increase your enjoyment of the game Contribute to player development Get your team s parents involved

20 10U Cup Volunteer Point (CVP) System Each 10U team provides at least one new trained volunteer referee 8 points earned to qualify for Cup On-field mentoring Eligibility info on website

21 12U Referee Volunteer Point (RVP) System Each team provides two trained volunteer refs New referees affiliated with teams Points awarded towards standings On-field mentoring Eligibility info on website

22 Coach <-> Referee Feedback Referees will report problems on the game cards for follow-up by Division Coordinator or Referee Administrator Coaches report problems, or praise, to Division Coordinator for follow-up

25 Silent Saturday Saturday, Sept 29 10U-14U divisions No cheering, only clapping. Why? To foster teamwork, communication, leadership, responsibility To reduce pressure on players and referees To remind coaches practice is for instruction, games are showcases To remind everyone this is about play, learning and fun

27 Next Steps... Practice times Field permits will be delivered later Keep field permit w/ your bag Only use your assigned field/date/time Notify if canceling Notify if there are any field issues Coach bags w/ uniforms Rosters

28 Next Steps your team parents (DCs will send you optional templates) Have a team meeting before practices start Recruit parent volunteers (must register) Team meeting is a good place to do this Some roles require volunteer training Clinic information to come
