VOLUNTEER REFEREE NEEDS Referee Needs: Current Referee Roster - Total Registered for MY Referees Only 67 registered Adult Referees Youth Referees, 15 girls and 24 boys MY certified referees We especially need female referee volunteers, currently 3 women signed. Referees are authority figures, and all our kids need to consistently see both males and females in this role. We re currently giving the clear though entirely false impression that only men can or should referee. All moms, grandmas, aunts, female neighbors and friends: please help! You don t need any soccer experience or knowledge. The job really is watching kids in a park, ensuring everyone plays fairly and safely and has fun. We ll teach you the small amount of soccer laws you need. 27
GUIDELINES FOR PRACTICES & GAMES Referee Guidelines 7U/8U Teams are responsible for their home game coverage, 1 referee Each 10U and older team needs to have 3 Referees that are actively covering games. Teams must earn 16 points (2 point for referee and 1 point AR) Required for 10u and above to participate in the INVITATIONAL playoffs. Referee Classes the next 3 Saturdays at Chaparral. August 18, 25 (8U course) and September 1 (must fill out volunteer application online and sign up in AYSOU for the class). Games must have a Referee by 9pm by Thursday. If not, a parent referee can sign up for the game on Friday. Games are cancelled if no referee by Friday at 5pm. For 8u and under, games will continue with a certified coach acting as referee. 28
CODE OF CONDUCT My Child is here because they want to be. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league. I will encourage my child to always play by the rules. I will help my child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game. My child will be a winner even in defeat. I will NOT ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or for losing a game. I will remain 3 yards behind the touch line, never enter the field of play and never stand behind the goal during play. I will set a good example. Children learn best by example. 29
CODE OF CONDUCT I will applaud good plays by my team AND by members of the opposing team. I will never publicly question the referee s judgment and honesty. The decisions of the referee regarding facts of play are final. I will NEVER say anything negative to a youth referee OR adult referee. (Zero Tolerance for ALL NEW!) I will recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches, referees and officials and give them their due respect. Without them there would be no AYSO soccer. I will support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities. I will demand a sports environment that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at any AYSO game and/or practice where children are present. 30
CODE OF CONDUCT 31
CONCUSSIONS AYSO OFFICIAL CONCUSSION POLICY Concussions are a serious medical emergency and should be taken seriously. Players suspected of having a Concussion and removed from the match by the Official may not return to that match.
