5 OUR VISION To be Middle Tennessee s premier developmental soccer league. Offering players the opportunity to compete in their communities while promoting the values of sportsmanship, inclusivity, effort, respect, and teamwork with a focus on maintaining healthy lifestyles and relationships. The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is committed to providing players with a positive playing experience, through leadership at the YMCA, volunteer coaches as positive role models, and parents/families providing positive and continuous support. The YMCA Soccer league is a platform for players to improve their game within a competitive AND recreational environment and to create positive habits for a lifelong pursuit of health.

6 PRE-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES Volunteer Application (Applies to All Coaches) Coaches Online Training (send copy to Area Coordinator) Background Check (ASURINT) Protects coaches, parents and players MUST be turned in and processed prior to 1 st practice Call All Families Introduce yourself Inform them of practice locations and times Ask them to bring a soccer ball, appropriate clothing and a water bottle to practice Optional: Decide on a TEAM NAME If numbers/ s do not work, contact Sports Office Conduct a Parent Meeting Review your goals/expectations for the season Attendance Correct Contact Information Special needs? Offer volunteer opportunities (Team Parents, Snacks, Calling List) Enjoy Your Practice!

10 PRACTICE SESSION 2016 YMCA Spring Soccer Topic: Ball Control Technical Warm-Up Set Up/Rules Coaching Points 20x20yard square Encourage use of different surfaces of the foot and incorporate moves Each player need a ball, dribble inside Laces, inside, outside, soles the square. Turns: inside chop, outside chop, pull back, cruyff More Advanced: add moves and turns consecutively. Moves: scissor, step-over, Mattews, Rivelino, (Youtube any moves for demo or to learn new ones) 1v1 Set Up/Rules Coaching Points 5x10yard grids, create 2-3 of them (depending on # of players) Put half player on one end w/ balls under control. (defenders), other half on opposite side. Defender passes the ball to the attacker, once the attacked receives the ball they try to dribble over the opposite end line. Defender wins it or dribble out of bounds, next group is up. More Advanced: have no resting players, play for a certain time. Encourage attacking players to take a positive first touch into space while Encourage the use of moves and doing the moves at speed (not static if they can help it) More Fundamental: make the defenders play shadow defense, can t steal the ball. 3v3: Conditioned Scrimmage Set Up/Rules Coaching Points 20x30 yard area (2 fields) Introduce when to dribble vs. pass For the last portion: make 2 evens Split group into 4 teams of 3 players team and increase the space Each team can play each other once, 3-4 minute games More Advanced: Players must dribble over the end line to score More Fundamental: Create a half line, 2 attacking players in attacking ½ and remaining 1 player in defending ½. Players cannot leave their halves.

12 GAME DAY EXPECTATIONS Treatment of Officials Actions affect your players Be respectful, despite your opinion Remember they are NOT professionals Expect some things to be missed Take time to talk with them before games or after for clarification Never openly criticize a referee Do not blame a win or loss on a referee Communicate with on-site YMCA staff or Sports Office Officials & YMCA have final say/authority Parents, Fan, Spectators Help us create a positive environment Game Schedules/Cancellations Teams are given a 10 minute warm up on field prior to the scheduled game time (UNLESS GAMES ARE RUNNING BEHIND) Arrive on time, Clock starts at time listed on your schedule Reschedules not guaranteed
