Match background The winners of the last two editions of the AFC Champions League will renew acquaintances on Matchday Two as defending champions Western Sydney Wanderers host 2013 winners Guangzhou Evergrande in a top-of-table clash in Group H. It is a mouth-watering re-match of last year s quarter-final when the Australian upstarts dethroned the star-studded Chinese side, winning 1-0 in Sydney and losing 2-1 at Guangzhou to advance on away goals. They carried their momentum all the way to the final where they defeated Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia to become the first Australian club to win the tournament. Since that stunning success, Western Sydney have suffered a slump in their domestic form and they are holding up the A-League table after managing only one victory all season. But they still have form on the continental stage as outlined by their 3-1 win over Kashima Antlers in Japan on Matchday One. They took the lead with a Gen Shoji own goal and although Kashima levelled through Shoma Doi midway through the second half, late goals by Yojiro Takahagi and Mark Bridge ensured a winning start for the champions. While the Wanderers have won six straight games at Parramatta Stadium, they face a stern test against Evergrande, who will be gunning for revenge after last season s quarter-final exit. The Chinese Super League champions opened their Group H campaign by edging FC Seoul 1-0 at home, courtesy of a first-half strike by Brazilian striker Ricardo Goulart, an expensive offseason acquisition by the club as they look to win the continental tournament for a second time in three years. It was a disappointing start to the competition for FC Seoul, who were runners-up in 2013 and semi-finalists last year and they will look to get their campaign back on track when they host Kashima in their second Group H game at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

2 Match facts FC Seoul vs Kashima Antlers FC Seoul and Kashima Antlers have met twice before in the AFC Champions League Round of 16 with the Korean side winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw in Japan in 2009 and easing to a 3-0 victory in Seoul in FC Seoul FC Seoul, who are appearing in the AFC Champions League for the fifth time, have lost three of their previous six home games against Japanese clubs in the competition including a 2-1 defeat against Kawasaki Frontale in the Round of 16 last season. Seoul s 1-0 defeat at Guangzhou Evergrande means that Seoul have failed to score in five of their last six AFC Champions League games. Their only goals in the competition since last May came in the 7-0 trouncing of Hanoi T&T in the Play-off s last month. Sergio Escudero started and scored in the Play-off victory over the Vietnamese club but the naturalised Japanese citizen is no longer with FC Seoul after moving to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Sainty on February 25. Midfielder Kim Chi-woo and Spanish defender Osmar Barba were booked in the loss at Guangzhou Evergrande and will be suspended if they receive further yellow cards during the Group Stage. Domestic form FC Seoul will begin their K League Classic season with a visit to 2012 AFC Champions League winners Ulsan Hyundai on March 8. Kashima Antlers Aside from their 3-0 loss at FC Seoul in 2011, Kashima Antlers have made three other visits to Korea Republic in the AFC Champions League, losing 4-1 in 2009 and drawing 1-1 in 2011 at Suwon Samsung, and winning 2-1 at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in Young midfielder Shoma Doi marked his AFC Champions League debut for Kashima by scoring his team s only goal in their 3-1 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers. On the other end of the experience scale, Kashima captain Mitsuo Ogasawara has now appeared for the club in six editions of the AFC Champions League. The 35-yearold midfielder first appeared on the continental stage in the 1998 Asian Club Championship and also played in Kashima s maiden ACL campaign in Defender Naomichi Ueda and Brazilian midfielder Caio were both shown yellow cards against Western Sydney and face suspensions if they are booked again during the Group Stage. Domestic form Kashima Antlers will begin their 2015 J.League season with an away game at Shimizu S-Pulse on March 8.

3 Western Sydney Wanderers vs Guangzhou Evergrande Western Sydney Wanderers and Guangzhou Everrgrande clashed in last season s AFC Champions League quarter-finals with the Australian side winning on away goals after a 1-0 win in Australia and 2-1 defeat in China. Western Sydney Wanderers Since losing 3-1 to Korea s Ulsan Hyundai in their first-ever AFC Champions League match, Western Sydney have been formidable at home in the competition, winning six straight games at Parramatta Stadium, scoring 12 goals and conceding none. Their biggest win in the competition was against Chinese opposition as they hammered Evergrande s league rivals Guizhou Renhe 5-0 in the Group Stage last year. Having scored for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the AFC Champions League last season, Japanese midfielder Yojiro Takahagi marked his debut for Western Sydney by scoring their decisive second goal in the 3-1 win at Kashima Antlers. With veteran goalkeeper Ante Covic, the Most Valuable Player in last season s tournament, not travelling to Kashima, Dean Bouzanis made his AFC Champions League debut for the club between the posts. Playing in his first AFC Champions League game for Western Sydney following his move from Kawasaki Frontale defender Yusuke Tanaka was one of three Wanderers players booked along with Antony Golec and Kearyn Bacchus. Domestic form Western Sydney remained bottom of the A-League after they lost 4-3 to Sydney FC in a derby game last Saturday. The reigning Asian champions have only one win in their first 17 games this season. Guangzhou Evergrande In addition to last year s 1-0 defeat at Western Sydney, Guangzhou Evergrande have visited Australia on two other occasions in the AFC Champions League, winning 2-1 at Central Coast Mariners in 2013 but losing 2-0 at Melbourne Victory last year. Their 5-1 win at Cerezo Osaka in last season s Round of 16 is the only victory in their last six AFC Champions League matches outside China. Brazil international forward Ricardo Goulart began to repay some of his expensive transfer fee from Cruzeiro by scoring the only goal in Evergrande s 1-0 win over FC Seoul on his AFC Champions League debut. Another Brazilian forward, Alan Douglas, also made his debut in the competition following his move from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg. Defenders Mei Fang and Feng Xiaoting and midfielder Huang Bowen received bookings during the 1-0 win over FC Seoul. Domestic form Evergrande lost 5-3 on penalties to Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super Cup on February 14. They begin the defence of their Chinese Super League title with a home game against newly-promoted Shijiazhuang Yongchang on March 9.

9 Team coach profiles Guangzhou Evergrande Fabio Cannavaro Former Ballon d Or winner Fabio Cannavaro is set for his first stint in football management after he was appointed to replace his Italian compatriot Marcelo Lippi as head coach of Guangzhou Evergrande last November. The 41-year-old former defender enjoyed a glittering playing career that included successful spells at Italian Serie A sides Inter Milan and Juventus and Spanish giants Real Madrid. He reached the pinnacle of his career when he captained Italy to victory at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Kashima Antlers Toninho Cerezo Having coached Kashima Antlers to a pair of J.League titles including the Japanese treble in 2000, Toninho Cerezo returned for a second spell as head coach of the Ibaraki club in 2013 and the 59-year-old led them to third place in their domestic league last season. The former Brazil international midfielder, who enjoyed much success as a player with Italian sides Roma and Sampdoria, has also coached Saudi giants Al Hilal and United Arab Emirates clubs Al Shabab Al Arabi and Al Ain in the AFC Champions League. FC Seoul Choi Yong-soo Appointed as the club s caretaker coach in April 2011, Choi Yong-soo landed the K League championship for FC Seoul in his first full season in charge a year later and was named the league s Manager of the Year. 10 Guangzhou Evergrande Team facts After making history in 2013 by defeating FC Seoul to become the first Chinese team to win the AFC Champions League, Guangzhou Evergrande came up short in their title defence last year as they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Western Sydney Wanderers on away goals. Evergrande have dominated their domestic league in recent seasons, winning their fourth consecutive Chinese Super League title last year. With Marcello Lippi stepping down at the end of 2014, former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro has taken over as head coach of the club from southern China for the 2015 season. The Ibaraki club narrowly missed out on an eighth domestic league title in 2014 when they finished just three points behind champions Gamba Osaka but their third place finish secured them a spot in the AFC Champions League for a sixth time.
