Thank You for Volunteering
No Soccer Experience Necessary! Experiencia en fútbol no es necesario!
Required Registration eayso Volunteer Show Picture ID Note: Go to where you child is registered and select register as a Volunteer. Required Training Safe Haven Training AYSO Age Appropriate Training Concussion Training (optional) Note: Use eayso Volunteer ID and go to to access online training Note: U10 has field training requirement as well.
AYSO is Largest Soccer Club in the World AYSO es el Club de Fútbol más grande en el Mundo Founded in ,000 teams 550,000 players Nearly 1,000 regions 220,000 volunteers Fundado en ,000 equipos 550,000 jugadores Alrededor de 1,000 regiones 220,000 voluntarios Alex Morgan Brandi Chastain Landon Donovan Carlos Bocanegra Eric Wylanda
AYSO Philosophies Filosofías de AYSO Everyone Plays Balanced Teams Open Registration Positive Coaching Good Sportsmanship Player Development Todos Juegan Equipos equilibrados Inscripción abierta Entrenamiento positivo Espíritu Deportivo Desarrollo de jugadores
How do you define a Leader? Creates a common goal or vision for the team Provides guidance when needed Inspires Speaks up when something isn t right Calm under pressure Gains the respect of others
Inspire Fill them with self-belief and give them the tools to be successful on and off the field Teach valuable social and life skills The weak teacher tells. The average teacher explains. The good teacher demonstrates. The Great Teacher inspires!
Practices Arrive before the players and parents and setup first activity Maximize practice times Plenty of touches on the ball Challenge all players Teach good habits that will transfer onto the field
Game Day One of my biggest pet peeves is youth team coaches who take winning too seriously. This has always bothered me, and I always tell coaches to forget about winning with young players. They need to create an environment where the kids enjoy playing and are developing their soccer skills. Winning should never be a priority. Landon Donovan, AYSO Alumni, professional player
Pre - Game Day Arrive before the players and parents (35 to 45 minutes before game) Plan your starting lineup Rotate starters Reward & recognize good EFFORT in practices Rotate positions for all players Have a lineup card ready for the referee Create a warm-up routine Ask parents to help setup the goals (secure with stakes) Shake the hand of the other coaches and referee Have the players ready to start on-time
During the Game Day Positive Coaching - words, body language Respect the referee calls Let the players be the decision makers Encourage creativity Recognize players trying to do the right thing Ask questions, help them think and learn for themselves Let them Play!
Which coach do you want to be? Which coach would you want coaching your own kids?
After the Game Day Team cheer for the other team Line up for handshake with other team. Ensure to stress good sportsmanship win or lose. Good Game and nice high-five. Coaches at the end of line, but also go through handshakes. Players and Coaches shake referee hands Ask Parents to help put the goals away, if needed. Get snacks and have very, very brief conversation with players.
How to manage blow-outs Defined as one team has 5 or more goals than the opponent Coaches job to have pre-prepared the players on a signal or coach instruction that indicates scoring needs to slow down. Some options to control blowouts Move top scorers to defense and they can t pass half line Make the team pass 5 times without being intercepted before shooting Only people that haven t score that season are able to shoot at goal
Advise from a Coach Hold a Parent Meeting at the start of the season Recruit a really good, friendly and organized Team Parent and then keep them season after season Be a great communicator Be on time for practices and games Be responsive to parent requests Respect the time of parents with busy schedules Track playing time for the season. 50% per game, but make sure all players play all positions and get equal time for the season Smile!
Heading the Ball No heading at practices or in games for U12 and below Heading during games will results in an indirect free kick for the opposing team if a player deliberately touches the ball with his/her head during a game. The indirect free kick is to be taken from the place where the player touched the ball with his/her head. Indirect free kick awarded to the attacking team inside the opposing team s penalty area, must be taken on the penalty area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the player touched the ball with his/her head. Neither cautions nor send offs shall be issued for persistent infringement or denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity related to the heading infraction. AYSO Heading Rules for Spring 2016
Safety is #1 Players MUST wear shinguards to participate in practices or games Copy of player medical forms at ALL events. Recommend a copy for Coach, Assistant Coach and Team Parent Copy of field permit to avoid any confrontations Parents MUST bring kids to coach for practice and pick them up from field (versus running off on their own), unless another parent is designated to bring them home or to the other parents car. Know the basics to diagnose a concussion Player expected of having a concussion should NOT play and requires doctors note to return to practices or games Referee is able to override a coach and parent if they suspect a concussion has occurred. Don t go on field until told to by the Referee Serious Injury should have Incident Report filled out by Coach or Team Parent Notify the Safety Director for filing incident report and for them to process insurance reimbursement if needed.
