2 In the News Division One Statistics 2nd December, 2010 Brighouse Honoured with Civic Reception (Source: Brighouse Town) The Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Keith Watson, held a civic reception for Brighouse Town Football Club last week at Halifax Town Hall. Town had been invited after clinching promotion last season from the KoolSport Northern Counties East League Division One in only their second season in semi-professional football. Councillor Watson congratulated them on this achievement and said that they liked to recognise what sporting clubs and individuals had done and at the same time brought credit to the district of Calderdale. He handed over to Coun Colin Stout, who said the late Nigel Wilson's dream had been realised. Wilson took the club from being a works side at Blakeborough Sports and Social Club into the West Riding County League and always dreamed of seeing the side climb the football pyramid. He said on top of promotion, Town had become the only club in Brighouse in the history of football to reach the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup. "This well run club has also rallied round after the fire in August that caused devastation at their St Giles Road ground and bounced back extremely well and on the field are going great guns again. "They have done all this though their own endeavours and without any council grants. "I congratulate them on behalf of everyone in Brighouse and district." After a meal the party looked at the Calderdale civic regalia and club chairman Chris Lister expressed thanks. It's a return to the KoolSport Northern Counties East League for Funk who guided Rainworth Miners Welfare to the Evo-Stik League in the summer but parted company with them a few weeks ago after a disappointing start to the season. A statement from the Langwith Road side says: "The committee would like to thank Dave for all his hard work as he gave the job his all. "The decision has not been made lightly. He is a great man and we wish him all the best in the future. "Dave will be replaced by Rudy Funk who has been appointed today. Rudy has been informed of the high aspirations of the club and is ready to work with the committee, players and management teams to achieve those aspirations. "The club is due to make one more appointment to strengthen the commercial side of the football club. "We are also still looking to make further appointments including the position of Chairman. "The committee would like to thank all involved, including the Northern Counties East League and local radio station Mansfield 103.2, for assisting the club to make the necessary appointments and look forwards to their continued support. "These appointments will ensure this community Football Club is not just sustainable but achieving above and beyond the Shirebrook and surrounding area's expectations." 4 9th December, 2010 Flood Hits Eagle Valley Complex (Source: Arnold Town) A burst water pipe has caused a major flood at Arnold Town's Eagle Valley Complex. The KoolSport side made the discovery this morning. The break in the pipe in the cellar caused water of up to two inches deep to flood a large part of the building, including the entrance hall, kitchen, toilets, bar and clubhouse. A club spokesperson said: "Club members and the insurance brokers, Firth and Scott, acted very quickly as a damage limitation plan was put into operation. This was reasonably successful and we have high hopes that the club will reopen on Friday." 12th December, 2010 Help Needed For New Non-League Book (Source: KoolSport NCEL) An author is looking for quirky stories about life in the KoolSport Northern Counties East League for his new book. Mike Bayly is compiling a light-hearted look at the more curious sights and sounds of football and wants to hear from fans and club officials about the strangest things that they have seen and heard at games over the years. A percentage of any profits from the book will go to the Mencap Charity who Mike's club, Wingate & Finchley, work very closely with. The Wrens say Sam Dobbs is available for dual registration as acting boss Billy Millar would prefer him to get some minutes under his belt rather than sit on the bench as understudy to Mark Hales. Ideally, it would be a Premier Division club that he would sign for but the club say they are open to all offers. 12th December, 2010 Recruitment Drive at Parkgate (Source: Parkgate) KoolSport side Parkgate are looking to recruit new committee members. They are in the chase for promotion to the Evo-Stik League and are looking to fill the following positions to help them progress to the higher level. The Rotherham-based side are after a gateman, a kit manager, a website manager, a programme editor, a PA announcer and a commercial manager. 6 Match Reviews Match Centre NCEL Match Review #33-12th December, 2010 Two KoolSport NCEL sides have booked their places in the Fourth Round of the FA Vase as five matches beat the weather to become the first to be played in two-and-a-half weeks. A hat-trick from Ryan Damms helped Staveley Miners Welfare defeat their Division One rivals Leeds Carnegie 4-1 at Throstle Nest. Dean Walters completed the scoring for them whilst Scott McGrory found the net for the home side. Staveley are now at home to Sussex County League side Rye United on January 22nd. Joining them are Tadcaster Albion who were 3-2 winners at Vodkat League outfit, Formby. Graeme Whitehead struck their winner with five minutes remaining in a rollercoaster match on Merseyside. Michael Young had put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after just seven minutes but the Brewers were soon back level courtesy of Steven Jeff. Stuart Rice then edged Tadcaster in front at the beginning of the second period before Victor Martindale restored parity yet again in the 72nd minute. They got off to a flying start with Daniel Reilly and Paul Lavender putting them two-up in the opening eight minutes. Daniel Clarke pulled one back on 17 but a Scott Mellon brace towards the end of the opening half gave the hosts a 4-1 half-time lead. Rangers, though, fought back and got to within a goal of Maltby through Martin Thacker and Steve Heath but the home side held on for the three points. Armthorpe Welfare were 3-2 victors over visitors Brighouse Town with Leo Fortune-West opening the scoring for them in the tenth minute. But, there was a long wait for the next goal. TOP SCORERS - League Only Nathan Cartman levelled on 69 minutes before Craig Wilkinson and Craig Morley made sure of the home win and Cartman got his second in injury time. And, it was a fantastic day for Marcus Edwards in Division One's only match as he struck five times in Eccleshill United's 6-1 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare, his goals coming in a 23 minute spell in the second-half.
