1 Oadby Owls Tournament Programme th and th August 0 Entry.00 (includes donation of to Action Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Charity) Additional Programme.0

2 Welcome everybody to the Oadby Owls 9 and a-side tournament which has a total of 00 teams competing at the under -6 age groups over the two day period. Last year s event was a great success and I am pleased to welcome back many teams from that and previous tournaments hosted by Oadby Owls. The event received a tremendous amount of positive feedback and I hope this year s event emulates that of last year. The tournament has once again attracted a large number of teams from outside of Leicestershire. Around 60 teams have travelled into the county ensuring that everybody plays against teams not normally encountered in their local area. In providing 0 minute group games, teams have an ideal opportunity to prepare for the season ahead. In order to accommodate group games of substance and value the quarter and semi final matches for the larger age groups are just 0 minutes long. There is no extra time in any fixture. Straight to penalties I m afraid. Only one team can win the event, but the opportunity is there for everyone to enjoy and gain some meaningful pre season football. Clearly the event is a competitive tournament. We trust that teams and management will adopt a friendly approach. We ask that any decisions made by officials are both accepted and respected. None of us get everything right all of the time, so even if the decision is considered a poor one and goes against you, please accept it and move on. Oadby Owls fully endorses the current RESPECT campaign by the FA. Managers, parents and players must all conduct themselves responsibly. Referees are instructed to officiate as they would normal League matches. will be reported to their respective FA if considered appropriate by the match officials. It certainly happened last year. Oadby Owls prides itself at being at the forefront of junior football in the Leicestershire. We hope that the tournament reflects the high standards adopted at Oadby Owls and that everyone, not least the players, has a fabulous day. Oadby Owls is a very progressive Charter Standard Community Club. Currently we have some 7 teams operating at various levels within the Leicestershire leagues. We have a Saturday morning Academy for children aged through to school year. This regularly attracts over 00 boys and girls each week. Please take the time to have a look at our web site I would like to pass on my personal thanks to Sam McMahon of the Judgemeadow Football Development Centre who has provided us with today s facilities. I would also like to thank the army of Oadby Owls volunteers who are once again giving up their time and energy in the pursuit of others enjoying themselves. The clubs volunteers really are fantastic and children s football at Oadby Owls would not exist without them. Good luck to all the teams and I hope you all have a tremendous day s entertainment. Next year s event will be on 7 th (under s/ s/ s) and 8 th August (under s/ s/6 s) Kind regards Rob Farrar (Chairman and Tournament Organiser) robfarrar@oadbyowls.com

5 Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy We have a little boy in the Oadby Owls Football Academy who has been recently diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It is caused by a fault on the X chromosome so the condition only affects boys. About 00 boys with Duchenne are born each year and at any one time,00 boys are living with this condition in the UK. It is a very serious condition and a cure is needed ASAP. Boys with Duchenne are diagnosed around the age of three and gradually lose their ability to walk, becoming wheelchair bound by the age of. From this point, cardiac problems, weakness of shoulders, arms and hands, chest infections and, at a later stage, respiratory problems. Life expectancy is reduced. There are many types of muscular dystrophy, but Duchenne is the most severe. In the past, boys often died in their late teens but improvements in care brought about by research and campaigning gives boys a much better outlook and many now live into their 0 s. It is a time of great optimism in Duchenne Research, with specific treatment options now in clinical trials to further improve life expectancy and quality. BUT more money is needed to continue this fight. Action Duchenne established in 00 support and promote innovative research into a cure and effective treatments... and we want to support their aim. Let s get right behind the It s time to stop wasting campaign. Oadby Owls, in adopting Action Duchenne as its supported charity, is striving to raise awareness and provide much needed funding for this terminal illness. The club has established a dedicated page on its web site Should you wish to make a personal donation this can be achieved online through our website. This year of each and every entry fee received at the Oadby Owls Tournaments being staged at the Judgemeadow Football Development Centre and the Leicester University Sports Ground will be going to the Action Duchenne Charity. We thank you greatly for your support.
