2 The Referee Background This was the second game of the first matchday in group B, after the surprising Denmark win against the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal faced in this match in Lviv, Ukraine. The stadium had a great atmosphere, with a considerable attendance, anyway it s also important to underline the neutral pitch, so the referee could not have this kind of pressure from people on the stands. The match in his progress didn t show many challenging or hard decisions to take, anyway it was quite intense and we can point out several situations, including an important decision by the second additional assistant, Ruddy Buquet. Parameter Mark 1: Degree of Difficulty and Importance II. CONTROL Comment Thanks also to the players fairness, Lannoy had a good control of the match, he showed leadership and authority, there were never riots or tense moments. His ability was also to convince the players about his decisions. Eemplary situations that strengthen the general impression Parameter Mark 2: Control III. DECISIONS Application of the Laws of the Game Comment (advice: always refer to aspects like card management, infringement detection, the application of the advantage rule, holding in the penalty area after set pieces, simulation and lay etra ordinary high emphasis on match influencing or even decisive decisions) Overall, he had a good foul detection. Probably he whistled a bit more than he needed, that includes also small and slight contacts, but finally there weren t considerable mistakes and the given cards were correct. He could have applied more the advantage rule. No important situations in the penalty areas, neither simulations. The crucial and decisive decision was taken by his additional assistant. Furthermore, the second assistant referee had to evaluate an offside situation. Important Decisions ((non)given cards should be mentioned, other important decisions in the opinion of the observer) Yellow card to Hélder Postiga, correct. Dangerous tackle on the legs of the 13 keeper Neuer, when the ball was already away. Raul Meireles committed foul on Khedira: correct free kick but he advantage 24 rule would have been more adequate. Yellow card to Badstuber: it was correct, the German player committed a 43 crucial foul, in order to stop Nani, which was running towards the area.

3 Ecellent reading of the situation by the referee, the contact was difficult to see and the replay showed it. 45 No goal: correct decision, thank to the second additional assistant Buquet. 52 Miguel Veloso pulled softly the shirt of Khedira, being anyway in a advantage position: free kick accorded by referee, harsh decision in that case. 60 Fábio Coentrão got a yellow card after a foul on Schweinsteiger. Correct decision: tackle on the legs. 69 Boateng got a yellow card because he stopped the action of Cristiano Ronaldo in a blatant way. 82 Özil offside: correct call minutes as additional time was an adequate choice, and he had also to add further time due to a substitution in the last seconds of the match. Parameter Mark 3: Decisions IV. STYLE Physical and Technical Aspects Epected Always close to the play, follows play at all times, and does not interfere with play Fleible Diagonal System Able to anticipate the action Enters the penalty area when necessary Appropiate, efficient and economic Positioning also at set pieces Physical Condition in general Adequate behaviour in dealing with injuries (awareness of serious injuries, possible advantages applied, cardtiming etc.) Comment He showed a good fitness, and his physical condition was at epected.
