At this point I would like to present to you the affairs of Naomh Seosamh CLG for the year. Football Review Senior Football 2013 saw the club appoint Jim Matthews as manager for the playing season with Alan McKenna & Paul Dromgoole as selectors. Sheelan Cup This traditional warm up competition, between senior and intermediate teams, now made up of four groups of six teams, Saw us defeat the Geraldines & the Martins, while losing to Blues, Clans & the Pats. Division Two League The 2013 league campaign opened brightly with two victories over Huntertown Rovers & Na Pairsaigh, this was followed however by an out of sort s performance and loss to Dundalk Young Irelands at home. The Joes responded to this loss with a spirited performance against a much fancied high flying St Marys, however a one point loss was recorded at home nonetheless. This double defeat was followed by an away trip to Tallanstown, the Joes on this occasion produced a very spirited steely performance with a comprehensive victory, and this however was followed up with an equally disappointing performance against a struggling St Mochta s side. The subsequent three matches yielded maximum points to pull the club back into playoff contention. The league programme was concluded with a good performance and victory over the Clans, and a narrow defeat in a high scoring game with the Geraldines. The play off saw us pitted against the Brides, in a very similar game to our championship defeat to the same opposition, a bright start was eventually calmed by the opposition in a nip and tuck second half the Joes had eaked out a 2 point lead going into injury. However, not for the first time this season the late concession of a crucial goal saw the Joes come away empty handed. INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP The 2013 championship groupings saw us pitted against two Dundalk teams, first up were Na Pairsaigh, The Joes were the much fancied team on this occasion, but it took them until the second half to put daylight between them and the opposition, with time almost up and six points separating the teams, the Joes were hit with a double goal shocker, and had to settle for a share of the spoils. This made the next encounter with winless clans all the more interesting, This game never really exploded with any great quality, and the clans held sway throughout but were wasteful and the Joes stayed in contention with three points adrift with five minutes remaining, a high diagonal ball into the square was punched to the net, the Joes rallied from here and finished the stronger with one more winning point. The quarter final pairing saw us meet the favourites, the more seasoned Sean O Mahoney s, a defensive line up saw the Joes soak up much of the oppositions play. With the bare minimum between the teams at the break, the O Mahonys threatened to push further ahead in the second half, but as the game reached the final quarter the

Joes grew in confidence and counter attacked with purpose, we eventually pounced with a late goal, to secure a very rewarding victory. The semi final, our second successive semi final, saw us meet our neighbours St Brides. The Joes on this occasion were favourites having comprehensively defeated them just recently in the league, and the game started true to form with the Joes in scintillating form streaking into an seven point lead, but for some reason we stopped, and allowed the opposition off the ropes and back into the game. The Brides took a strangle hold in the middle in particular other opportunities did present themselves, particularly at the start of the second half, but their midfield platform was sufficient to outscore our high scoring forward line. Conclusion: In conclusion one can see the improvement in the team, the younger players are continuing to develop and mature. A credible league programme where a playoff position was obtained proves that. We certainly have the fire power and skills to compete with the best on our day, we are just short on that craft, and defensive make up that will add the consistency it takes to become a winning team sees the departure of Jim Matthews after three years of work, One must commend his work rate and enthusiasm, the team has improved and developed under his direction, and he leaves behind a healthy playing panel for the incoming management. He was of course ably assisted by Alan Mc Kenna, who has been involved with the senior management for the last three years and Paul Dromgoole who stepped up from the successful junior management to also make a valuable contribution. Finally returning to senior must be our club ambitions, an exciting journey awaits this panel, and hopefully they grab their opportunity with continued commitment over the next number of years. JUNIOR FOOTBALL 2013 was always going to be difficult to match the achievements of the previous year, but the year started very positively again and the junior team continued to clock up the wins, however defeats to the Clans, Marys & St Pats, took this run to a finish, and St Pats again defeated us in the league semi final. Thanks to management team of Oliver McDonnell, Paul Dromgoole & Brian Campbell. UNDER 21 A competition that we have under achieved in of late, continued to disappoint in 2013, defeated by a combination team in the first fixture, we subsequently lost to a strong St Brides team, although it must be said we did ask some questions of them throughout. Under Age & Og Sport Please see comprehensive report compiled by Pat Coyne. (available on website) One must note the commitment applied to his position of Minor board chairperson by Pat Coyne, he simply put his heart & soul into this position, and as was revealed at a healthy Minor Board AGM, he no longer will be seeking re election for this position, however it is very clear the organisation structures that now exist are a testament to his hard work and dedication, and he should be thanked wholeheartedly for this work.

Off Field Review Fund Raising The lotto continues to be our healthiest revenue stream, with total receipts of 40k. Many thanks must go the chairman and Eamonn Gallagher for their Sunday night recordings and of course our lotto sellers. The annual Michael Morgan Table Quiz, now in it s seventh year was again a well attended and great night. The Hill walk again proved to a very enjoyable club day, maybe less so as a fundraiser, but that is understandable as it was in its second year, again many thanks to Michael for his efforts. The Family day proved a popular draw, with upwards on 800 people arriving, many thanks must go the business people of the parish for their kind support, to make this day possible. This day is something that we can develop and grow and make it a regular feature on the calendar. August again was bucket collection time, and we netted upwards 3k for our efforts, down on last year, but again an enjoyable worthwhile day. Halloween we hosted a fancy dress party, for our injured players, this proved also to a very enjoyable night and worthwhile but unfortunately necessary venture. During the year we also changed sponsors, with Eamon McGinn, & Country Fresh, now our main club sponsors many thanks to David Murtagh for his support over many years. I note from the accounts our loan balance continues to decline which is good, it would be nice to wipe the credit union balance as it has a big drain on our cash flow, and suggest maybe a larger one off fundraiser next year to address this. Buildings, Field & Development. The long standing issue of our entrance gate has been addressed, and I m sure everybody agrees it looks very well indeed, well done to all concerned, Tom & Aidan etc. On a general point I would like to see additional attention put into grounds maintenance & improvement, I believe we can continue to improve our appearance with the current availability of labour, the Fas Tus workers now. Also a point made at the Minor AGM I also believe it is incumbent upon us to consciously develop the back field as a training facility, I would like to see real action and commitment with this suggestion. Conclusion A particularly positive year in many respects, we continue to show signs of improvement on the football field, the community centre continues to be a great resource for many. Many of our functions & outings are good fun events. On a sad note we lost the great Nicko during the year, an example to us all, and we hope to honour his memory soon with a get together, and again I would like to repeat the thanks expressed by the Mc Cartney family to the club and its members for it show of support & friendship around the time of his funeral. We also have the most famous umpire in the land amongst our ranks now and we all enjoyed his good news story during the year. Is Mise Leas Meas Sean O Shionnaigh RUNAI

Chairman s report 2013 Introduction: Welcome everyone to our AGM and thank you all for your contributions during the year. While the year gone by may not have brought any major awards on the sports field, I do feel we have made significant progress in that most important of areas and that we are well positioned to push on in And I am sure also, that the players and mentors can depend on the incoming committee for all the support and assistance they require to achieve their goals in I would like to thank the players and management for all their efforts throughout the year. Like every other Club in the Country we found 2013 very challenging from a financial viewpoint, but as can be seen in our accounts we have been able to keep our head above water in the day to day running of the club, provide for the needs of all the football teams, take a few euros off the mortgage principal and even manage to get some much needed works done around the complex, such as to the sewage and water systems, storage in the community centre, painting and I am sure you will all agree a striking new entrance and gates. None of this would have been possible without the contributions made by the following groups :- o Our ever loyal supporters, who are always willing to help us out, whenever they are asked. o The trojan work of all our fundraisers, who walk the streets, or drive the roads on a weekly basis or when asked to for any given special event, so they can knock on the doors of those loyal supporters, I mentioned earlier. o The committee members and others who were roped in to help out in the organisation and preparation of the various fundraising and community events that took place during the year, from collecting answers at quiz nights, selling flags on flag day, dressing up for the fancy dress, guiding us all on the mountain, or even roasting a pig at our barbeque! o A special word of thanks this year must go to those who were willing to dig that little bit deeper, or in some cases a big bit, deeper in order to help out the club. I talk of course of our sponsors. We very much appreciate all the assistance we got from those who were willing to support our ventures for very little reward or recognition and in some cases none at all. As you are all aware this year saw us change our main club sponsor for the first time in quite a number of years and while we are forever grateful for the wonderful support our last sponsor Bushfield Interiors gave us over the years, we are delighted and very grateful to Eamon Mc Ginn and his company to have Country Fresh as our club sponsor for the foreseeable future. To the Morgan Family for the quiz night, Daybreak, Mc Donald Oils and all the many others for the Barbeque, our website sponsors Kinahan Financial Services and all the sponsors who contributed in any way on behalf of the club, I say a very big Thank You. And I would ask you to remember any of our sponsors that have a commercial business, whenever you are thinking of spending a few euros. In the Year of the Gathering we are also very grateful to one of our most distinguished emigrants, Willie Reilly, who was also willing to sponsor us in a substantial manner. Finally on this matter, to the anonymous sponsor, who was willing to give so generously to the club, without any form of official recognition I would like to pay a particular tribute and express our sincere gratitude on behalf of the club.

Thanks to All our Committees:- Field and Buildings - They faced many challenges with little finance available in 2013, there was great work by our Fas workers, who were supplemented this year by two Tuas workers and a lot of voluntary work when needed. Our pitch is one of the best in the county and did come to the rescue of a few county board championship fixtures during the year. Great credit to Joey and his fellow field committee members. As planned and mentioned above, we managed to deal with some of the infrastructure issues during the year, but there are still a few issues to be resolved and these should be a target for the incoming committee. A bit of recent good news is that our overall development has reached the final shortlist for the LAMA ( Local Authority Members Association ) Community and Council Awards for 2014 in the Crown Plaza Santry at the end of January! Community Centre This sub committee continue to carry out trojan work and provide an excellent facility to the complete community and further afield and also contributing in a very substantial way to the finances of the club. We need to give as much support as possible to this committee to ensure the burden is shared. Finance I have spoken above in general terms about the efforts made by all in the club to deal with the financial challenges that every club confronts and while we have done reasonably well, as Eugene s figures reflect, you can also see that we are down overall on some of our fundraising enterprises and what worked well in 2012 did not do so well in 2013, the reason for that is something the incoming committee will have to address as a matter of urgency. o Michael Morgan Memorial Quiz night - Another great night in aid of the players injury fund and in memory of a truly great club man in Michael. Our thanks go to his family for sponsoring this event. o Barbeque A summer version of come dine with me, a fantastic day which all in the community enjoyed and well worth repeating. o Joes Hit the Hills A very novel and lucrative idea brought forward by that well known hill walker Michael Kinahan. This proved to be a truly memorable day for the whole community. o Fancy dress In aid of Injured Players, great fun night. Could have been supported better, but those who did support really got into it with over 50 guests dressing up on the night and to a very high standard too. o Membership. Not an area we concentrate on a lot, except for the excellent work of the underage committee. If we think we are such a great club why are so few people members of it? Another challenge for the incoming committee. o Lotto Perhaps not as sexy as the other fundraising exploits, but as can be seen from the figures it is our core source of income and we are very grateful to all sellers and donators for their efforts each week. I know it is a bit of a struggle every week, but it does allow our other fundraising activities as described above to be more innovative, community based and fun. It is also worth noting that over 40% of our takings is allocated to the prize fund of the lotto and that equates to in the region of 20k for the year. There is plenty of room for us as a committee and indeed all members to sell and support our lotto much better. Also, please don t forget our special 3 for 5 lotto that takes place this weekend, with a guaranteed prize giveaway of at least 500 if the Jackpot of 7,200 is not won! Cultural Committee We have not been great in this area over the years and it is an area we should be making improvements in. In fairness this year our cultural officer will lay claim to supporting the fundraising activities of the local Irish dancing school, hosting a Feis and he will probably also point to the Cultural experience that was the night at the opera.

Underage Football Activities:- Underage, Og Sport and Juvenile:- The activities of the underage committee and all teams were discussed at their AGM last Thursday week and while again the years internal affairs were dealt with very ably with by all involved, there was quite a bit of frustration dealing with the new county minor committee organisation. This was not helped by us being unable to provide a dedicated minor secretary to assist the chairman. Unfortunately due to work commitments and an increasing workload, Pat Coyne, who has probably been a victim of his own success, was unable to continue in his role as minor board chairman and as the AGM was unable to appoint one on the night it was adjourned, to be resumed early in the new year when I am sure suitable candidates will be appointed. The focus of the minor committee will remain, the challenge of winning the hearts and minds as well as the bodies of all the young footballers in the community and one we will have to work on continuously to maintain and improve on our standards. One of the areas I would like to see particular attention paid to is the transition periods that occur from time to time in a young footballers career and also in coaches careers. We need to ensure that we do not loose anyone due to simple neglect or that knowledge and information is not passed on from one set of coaches to another. This is obviously a very clear area for the coaching and games officer to be involved in. From Pats comprehensive report given at the AGM it is clear that there is lots of work to be done, but that there is also lots of very good young players out there The trophies this year went to the :- o U15s in the Division 3B Championship o U16s in the Division 3B League Well done to them and all the other teams who may not have done quite so well. It is also worth mentioning the wonderful achievement of Scoil Darver in reaching the final of the Schools competition and this team also forms the backbone of our u-12 team that was so narrowly defeated by St Marys in the division one league final. Youth Officer -Thanks Tony for your work, a very important position, with responsibilities that we need to ensure are going to be implemented. Coaching and Games A position which is at the heart of what we are doing for the development of players and coaches in this club. Unfortunately there was very little activity in this role during the year and is one that will have to be developed and supported much more in Og Sport Officer - Sinead Coyne has done a great job at this level as well as being our Club School link.

Adult Football:- John has given a very comprehensive review of the year and how he saw the season progress and hopes for next season which we all share. As I have stated many times, first and foremost, my primary concern was for the development of football at all levels within the club and as the figureheads, the primary adult team, ie. our intermediate team, would be the one we would all look to, to lead the way. Unfortunately as in previous years we did not manage to reach our goal. The intermediate management team of Jim Matthews, (Manager, Coach), Alan Mc Kenna, Paul Dromgoole as selectors are to be greatly commended for all the efforts and time they gave to their roles during the year, unfortunately they did not get the results this effort deserves. They were hampered by unavailability of players, due to J1 s, holidays, injury and defections, hopefully we will have better luck in these areas in I would like to wish all our injured players a speedy recovery and much better luck next year. The Junior Management team management of Ollie, Barney and Drummer also did very well reaching the division 4A league semi finals, but fell short of last years high point. When I looked back at the notes of my address to the AGM last year and what I said to express my confidence in the ability of this team to succeed, I referred to the latent and potential talent that is within the Joes squad and that assuming they prepare properly that they only need to make up their minds that they want it enough and they should be capable of achieving their goals. Obviously we did not achieve all our goals, perhaps that is because we did not want it enough or it did not hurt enough, but now at the end of the end of a year when I think the general mood in the club and more importantly, within the whole squad is changing from feeling sorry for ourselves or thinking we were not ready yet or are still a bit young or we are not as good as the O Connels/ Gers/ Brides to one of real anger, frustration and disappointment at been bet by inferior teams due to our own shortcomings. I would hope that these base emotions of anger and disappointment would act as a much better motivational fuel to fire up the ambition of the squad and drive them on to eliminate their shortcomings and reach their full potential. As you are all aware a new management team of Ollie Mc Donnell (Manager ), Noel Litchfield (Coach), Barney and Enda (Selectors) has already started preparations for the new year, assuming they will be ratified at this meeting tonight I would like to wish them and all the squad every success in Closing Remarks: It also behoves us to remember all of our deceased members, players, relatives and friends that are not with us this year and especially those who passed away during the year. May they rest in peace. So once again thank you to everyone who helped in any way during the year and I hope to see much more of everyone next year. Thank you for your presence and attention and I would like to wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and a healthy and hopefully successful new year. Go raidhbh mile maith agat.
