Hooks starter Jake Buchanan shined thru five scoreless innings, walking one while fanning four. He threw 46 of 69 pitches for strikes and induced eight ground-ball outs, lowering his ERA to Carlos Quevedo (0-1) entered in the sixth and coaxed two quick outs before Anthony Aliotti swatted his second home run of the year, a no-doubt blast to left. Quevedo held Midland to just two hits leading up to Barfield's sky-scraping shot, including a pinch-hit double by former Hook Jake Goebbert. Corpus Christi continued to struggle offensively, mustering its lone run in the fourth inning. Jonathan Meyer, who had two of the club s seven hits, singled to open the inning. He later scored on Rene Garcia s base hit to centerfield. Garcia and Ben Orloff extended their hit streaks to six games. In their last 10 contests, the Hooks are averaging just over two runs per game. Doran, selected by the Astros in the fourth round of the 2010 draft out of Texas Tech, made 10 starts for Corpus Christi in He finished the year with a stretch of 4 starts in which he went 2-0 while allowing just 2 earned runs over 22.1 innings pitched. In one of those starts, August 21 at Midland, Doran struck out a career-high 10 batters. FAMILIAR FACES: Corpus Christi fan favorite Jake Goebbert, who was traded to Oakland earlier this month for lefty reliever Travis Blackley, cracked a pinch-hit double last night in his first AB against his former team. Goebbert is hitting.280 with 7 runs scored, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 2 steals in 14 games for the RockHounds. The 13th-round pick in 2009 out of Northwestern hit a combined.291 with nine home runs and 54 RBIs in 130 games with Oklahoma City and Corpus Christi last season. Goebbert ranked among Texas League leaders in batting average (.304, 4th) and on-base percentage (.399, 4th). He was named TL Co-Player of the Week for April 5-16 (with Brandon Barnes), hitting.375 (12-for-32) with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. Goebbert reached base safely in 22 straight road games from May 3-July 17, hitting.297 (22-for-74) with a.436 OBP. Another Corpus Christi alum, RHP Sergio Perez, is a member of these RockHounds. Perez, who has only made one appearance this season, is currently on the Midland disabled list with a groin injury. Signed as a free agent by the A s this past offseason, the Tampa native pitched in parts of three seasons for the Hooks. Perez worked all of 2009 in CC, going with a 4.68 ERA in 27 starts. He was 4-2 with a 4.54 ERA over 40 appearances (4 starts) for the RedHawks last year. OKC SHUFFLE: RHP Jose Cisnero made his big league debut last night, tossing 3.2 scoreless frames in Houston s 7-1 loss to Seattle at Minute Maid Park. LHP Brett Oberholtzer was shipped back to Oklahoma City to make room on the roster after making his first major-league appearance Sunday. He yielded two solo home runs over 2 innings against Cleveland. RHP Paul Clemens was promoted to Houston early this month, winning his debut at Safeco Field on the 9th. This infusion of Corpus Christi alumni is needed as only 1 Astros starter has pitched into the 6th in the club s last seven games, with 3 starters failing to finish the 1st.
