Ok everyone, here s a selection of some poems I was forced to write! Gymnastics On the floor I feel alive My hands push off with force And like an eagle I soar through the air As I run, I can hear the whistling of the air The vault table stands motionless, anything but alive My landing is solid, due to my overpowering force. On the beam there is no force 4 inches wide, 4 feet in the air Tumbling on it, I m lucky to be alive In gymnastics, the air is chalky, and I force myself to achieve more; how alive it makes me feel I cannot describe in words.
A Doll in Her Place Two loving parents hand me To a small and grateful child She is so small I m as big as her She pours me a cup of tea And we drink together, laughing She picks me up And we run away from the evil dragon Growing Up Poem She puts me in a backpack Holds me close in the car, on a plane Seeing her family, I am thrown to the side To be played with later She bounces on her bed Laughing with her friends They paint each others nails, I fall off the bed Left underneath it I m perched on a shelf Watching her grow She packs her things Catching a glance at me, she puts me in her bag Two loving parents hand me To a small and grateful child She is so small I m as big as her
Dance of the Soldiers Silence blankets the walls Of an old mysterious castle Shadows clad in armor Light the dark With a single lamp Quintina The light of the lamp Glints off the armor Of the soldiers on guard at the walls Stillness fills the castle Bringing alive the terror of the dark Inside, the dark Is absent. Many lamps Light the inside of the castle Kept in by the walls Kept out by sturdy armor The men remove their armor Feebly guarded are the walls Shrouded in dark A room filled with glorious lamps Holds a dance in the castle How alive is the castle In the absence of dark Lit by a golden lamp Armor Decorates castle walls The walls of the castle hold out the dark The armor sits in a dark room lit by a single lamp, as the people dance.
Dance on the Water I dance on the water The water is as blue As the sky Here there are no waves The waters are so calm. The shore Is far away. Peace envelops me, I drift to sleep Sestina Sleep Drifting on the water Lingering on the shore Sinking in depths of blue Carried on the waves It s almost as beautiful as the endless sky Clouds float in the sky Like I do as I sleep On the endless, oncoming waves That disorganize clear, deep water So enveloping is the blue Time stops; no waves crash on the shore I can no longer see the shore Or the depths of the sky Or the entrancing blue In my mind lingers sleep On the cool, rippling water In the wind of the waves So high are the waves As they crash on the shore Drowned in the foams of white water In the sky Waits sleep Ready to take me away from the blue Blue Blankets the waves That rock me to sleep I can see the shore I look to the sky As I dance on the water The water is blue where my feet lightly tap it The sky and waves merge
Waiting on the shore, sleep will never find me How to Vault Run a mile, jump, block, fly Don t forget to touch the sky The Man in the Van There once was a man Who lived in a van And ate out of a can which he cooked in a pan! Jelly I like jelly It fills my belly Fat There once was a cat Who could fit in my hat But then, when he sat I saw he was FAT! Couplets/ Quatrains
A True Story Where am I? I think in a deep- headed worry Oh yeah, I remember I just had my surgery Good Job! Says a nurse And she wheels me away And that s when I realize It s been a very long day I m wheeled into a room Where my parents I can see But alas, I m too dizzy Like a tornado hit me Like a pet dog I was told to sit up But because I was dizzy I was gonna throw up But I couldn t throw up Because I hadn t devoured Any kind of food In the past 18 hours Like a sloth, I dress slowly Until I am steady Then I sit down Till I know that I m ready A nurse comes back in While the sun is still high She wheels me to my car Where I say goodbye Figurative Language Poem
Mom No matter how lonely How sad Or how cold You ve always been with me Even perils untold A summer baby you were The trees sing On that day That warm, summer wind Whips my breath away Even when I m I doubt In fear Or in pain You ve always been there To shield my heart from the rain On the day I was born I swear on the waves Of the ocean and sea That I knew from the start That you d always love me I love you for you No matter How old We ll stay hand in hand Until our lives are sold Mother s Day Poem
Imagery Poem The Winter Tundra is a Circle The winter tundra is a circle It doesn t have an end The winter tundra is the attacker You never know what s around the bend The winter tundra is a deathtrap You might not make it through The winter tundra is a tiger Waiting to pounce on you The winter tundra is a black hole Don t let it suck you in! The winter tundra is your rival You can never let it win The winter tundra is a cobra Its venom puts you to the test The winter tundra is a map Pressuring you into a deadly quest But in a way We all can say The winter tundra is an invitation To explore its exciting past The winter tundra is a friendship Wanting to forever last The winter tundra is a circle It doesn t have an end
Where I m From Poem From Whence I ve Come I m from AM/FM radio And from cards and books and bikes Board games like Clue and Aggravation And my very first cat I m from a baby-sitting tomboy And roller skating to disco From the music of Queen and Donna Summer And Nadia s Perfect 10.0 I m from M&M s and Hubba Bubba Happy Days and Kotter That church around the corner And Up your nose with a rubber hose I m from Little House on the Prairie And To Kill a Mockingbird From hanging out with friends And an aspiring doctor I m from 23 years in Pennsylvania From yinz and a nat From a marriage with a pilot And a blossoming family tree
