Rally Day 2019 Guider Information Event Date: Saturday, May 11 Location: Big Four Building, Stampede Park, 1801 Big Four Trail SE, Calgary Time: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (Caravan Breakfast from 9:30 to 11:00 am) About Rally Day 2019 Rally Day occurs every three years in Alberta, and events are held across Alberta as well as the NWT and Yukon. The Rally Day for Calgary Area will have 2000 participants from all branches of Guiding as well as 100 amazing Guider, girl and Friends of Guiding volunteers. The format for Rally Day is free-flow. You have many choices for activities, and you might wish to participate for the entire day or for just part of the day. We strongly encourage everyone to be on-site for the noon stage show. Have fun! Updated: April 10, 2019
Getting There The best way to get to Stampede Park is by the C-Train. Victoria Park station is the closest stop to the Big Four Building. Units are encouraged to meet at a train station in their part of the city and travel together to the Stampede Grounds. Travel by C-Train is a green level activity, but you should have an SG.4 for the trip. Parking at the Stampede is $15. Drop-off location for buses is in front of the Big Four Building. Stampede parking staff will direct buses into and out of the loop. No bus parking is available; Stampede Park is fully booked that day. Check-in Check-in booths will be located outside the front entrance. Units check in on arrival and check out when leaving. Important Notes: Attendee Lists: Bring two printed lists of girls and adults in your group who are attending that day. Include the cell phone number of one Guider who is on site with the group. Hand in one list at check-in and keep the other list. Group Check-in: Check your entire group in together. The check-in volunteers cannot handle late stragglers from your group. Nor can they call or locate Guiders. Meeting Location: Meet girls and parents away from the main entrance. Instead arrange to meet at another location and arrive together as a group. No Parent Access: Parents/guardians are not permitted to enter the building to find their daughter or a Guider. They must phone the Guider and arrange for her to meet them outside. Bracelets: Every participant must show their bracelet for admittance and wear the bracelet the entire day. No one is permitted to enter without a bracelet. Write the attendee name and Guider phone number on the bracelet (refer to the instructions you received with the bracelets). No bracelets are available to purchase at the door. Caravan Breakfast: If you are attending the Caravan Breakfast, go to the check-in first. You will then proceed through the building to access the breakfast. Girls Without an Image Release (IR.1): Many photos will be taken throughout the day by other participants and the media. Make sure that you know which participants do not have an image release in your group. A lanyard will be available at check-in for girls who do not have an IR.1. However, inform your parents that in a large gathering such as this one, photos may be taken of girls whether or not they are wearing a lanyard. Page 2 of 8
Kit List All participants should wear their uniform/guiding gear. Bring the following in a small backpack: Refillable water bottle Lunch that is peanut-free (No microwaves or fridges are available.) Sit-upon (For sit-upon ideas, see Camp hat traders (A station is available to take one, leave one. Many ideas for camp hat swaps are available online, such as Pinterest Girl Guide Swaps.) Important Notes: Keep it light! All participants will be expected to carry their belongings from station to station. There will not be a storage location or drop zone for your unit s gear. Everyone will eat lunch and watch the stage show at the same time. No chairs are available for lunch. Bring your sit-upon for the concrete floor. There are no places to purchase food, but a water station will be available for refills. Guiders must carry health forms for all the girls in their unit. The Rally Day SG.4 is available on the Rally Day page of the website. Services First Aid: First Aid is available near the stage. Water Refill: Bring your water bottle here to fill up with fresh water. Lost & Found: If a child or articles are lost or found, bring them to this station. Info: If you have questions, information booths are near the entrances on the upper and lower levels of the building. Swag: Girls will receive a crest and little gift. The swag will be packaged for your unit and includes enough for every girl in the unit, not just the girls attending Rally Day. Ensure that one Guider per unit picks up the package for your unit any time during the day. Guiders will receive their swag from their district commissioner. Page 3 of 8
Schedule The event is free-flow, so you do not need to follow a schedule for the activities. However, here are some important times to keep in mind when planning your day. Time Activity Location 9:15 am Check-in booths open Outside Big Four Building 9:30 to 11:00 am Caravan Breakfast Parking Lot 10:00 am Activities start Big Four Building 10:00 am Drumming (yellow bracelets) Lower Level 10:15 to 10:45 am Cheer with Calgary STARS Cheer Team (Stage) 11:00 am Drumming (blue bracelets) Lower Level 11:15 to 11:45 am Cheer with U of C Dinos Cheer Team (Stage) 11:45 am to 1:00 pm Activity stations close 12:00 to 1:00 pm Lunch: All participants sit in front of the stage, eat lunch, and watch entertainment. Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your drumming time. Page 4 of 8
Activities You are free to choose which activities you do and when you do them. The only exception is drumming. If an activity is crowded or full, then you can wait in line or go do something else and try again later. We recommend you divide your unit into smaller groups and have each group explore the rally separately. This will make it easier to move from station to station and lessen issues with crowding and space. Most activities are free-flow arrive and depart from the activity whenever you like. A few activities have mini-presentations that last 15 to 20 minutes and repeat continuously throughout the day. Girls will only be admitted at the start of the presentation. As a courtesy to the facilitator and other attendees, everyone is expected to stay for the entire presentation. Activity stations will close from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm so everyone can gather for the stage show. Activity Description Location Ambulance Visit with an EMT and explore a working ambulance. Archives Astrodome See some amazing old Guiding uniforms can you match them together? You will also make a wool doll with the Archives team.
