However, the ock-up direction can be changed easiy. To change the direction, pay particuar attention to the foowing steps: Loosening the tie-rods for the purpose of changing the direction coud aso oosen the nuts on the cyinder side. Therefore, before assembing the unit, make sure to verify that the nuts on the cyinder are not oose. Retighten the nuts if they are oose, and whie turning the piston rod, appy a ow pressure of. MPa to make sure that it operates smoothy in both the extending and retracting directions. 1. Loosen the tie-rod nuts and pu out the four tie-rods. 2. Open the rubber cap and screw in the unocking bot, which is provided as an accessory part. At this time, appy air pressure of.2 MPa to.3 MPa to disengage the ock and insert the bot. (The operation to foow can be performed propery and easiy with the appication of air pressure.) After verifying that the bot has been inserted propery, pu out the unit from the rod. Then, oosen the three screws in the scraper presser pate to remove the presser pate and the scraper. Insta the scraper and the presser pate, in that order, on the opposite side. Caution When the ock-up unit is not secured by the tie-rods, the air pressure appied to the ock-up port shoud be between.2 MPa and.3 MPa. Never suppy a higher air pressure as it coud ead to equipment damage. 3. Turn the unit to the opposite end so that the end without the scraper is facing the cyinder rod cover. Then, securey insert the unit into the end boss portion of the rod cover. 4. Insta four tie-rods, with their shorter threaded portion oriented towards the rod cover, and tighten them with uniform torque. Unti the instaation and adjustment have been competed, never pu out the unocking bot (or reease the air pressure). The processes described above compete the changing of the ocked-up direction. Before using the cyinder, make sure that the ock-up operates propery. ø to ø 1. Loosen the tie-rod nuts and pu out the four tie-rods. Tie-rod Locked-up state 2. Appy air pressure of.2 MPa to.3 MPa to disengage the ock and pu out the ock-up unit from the piston rod. Air pressure suppy Lock-up unit 3. Remove the retainer pate from the ock-up unit and insta the retainer pate on the opposite end. Reappy the air pressure, and with the end on which the retainer pate had, unti now, been facing towards the cyinder, insert the ocked-up unit into the piston rod and fit it into the end boss portion of the rod cover. Maintain the appication of air pressure unti the instaation and adjustment have been competed, and never actuate the ock in the meantime. Air pressure suppy 9-3-4

5 Lock-up Cyinder Doube Acting, Singe Rod Series Manua Lock Reease (ø to ø) To manuay disengage the ock, perform the foowing steps: 1. Open the rubber cap. 2. Appy.2 MPa to.3 MPa of air pressure to the ocking port, and bring the tited ring upright. 3. Screw a bot of an appropriate ength into the ring tap. The bot size is M5 for ø and ø, and M6 for ø, ø, and ø. 1. Load fuctuations during the reciproca movement of the piston coud cause the piston speed to change. A change in the piston speed coud greaty increase the variance in the piston s stopping position. Therefore, perform the instaation and adjustment operations so as not to create any oad fuctuations during the piston's reciproca movement, particuary just before stopping. 2. During a cushioning stroke, or when the piston is in the acceeration region foowing the start of its trave, there is a arge change in speed. Thus, the variance in the stopping position wi aso be arge. Therefore, to effect a step movement in which the stroke from the start of the operation to the next position is short (approximatey 3 mm, athough it coud vary according to conditions) be aware of the possibiity of being unabe to attain the eve of accuracy shown in the specifications coumn. 3. Precautions regarding ock-up after the piston has been stopped with an externa stopper: To appy the ock-up after the piston has been stopped by an externa stopper other than the ocked-up mechanism, incuding stoppage by the stroke end of the cyinder, be aware of the matters described beow. Due to the nature of the ock-up mechanism, there is an axia pay of about.5 to 1. mm. Furthermore, due to pipe routing conditions, if it takes onger for the air to discharge through the ock-up port than for the baance pressure to stabiize, causing a deay in ocking, the piston rod wi move for an amount that is equivaent to the pay + deay. 4. Immediatey before a ock stop, drop the piston speed to mm/s or ower by switching the speed controer (to the bypass circuit). Then, operate the ock-up. ø to ø (On cyinders ø to ø, the ock cannot be disengaged manuay.) 1. Fushing Before piping is connected, it shoud be thoroughy bown out with air (fushing) or washed to remove cutting chip, cutting oi and other debris from inside the pipe. 2. The oad on the piston rod Use the cyinder in the state in which the oad to the piston rod is aways appied in the axia direction. This must be more stricty adhered to than with ordinary air cyinders. Furthermore, use a guide to contro the movement of the oad so as not to cause chatter or twist. 3. A rotationa force against the piston rod Avoid appying a rotationa force against the piston rod. In particuar, the appication of a rotationa force must be prevented when in a ock-up state. 4. Protecting the siding portion of the rod Use caution that no scratch or dent wi be given to the side part of the guide rod, as this coud damage the seas and ead to eaks or fauty ock-up. 5. Lubrication It is not necessary to ubricate the CL series because it is the non-ube stye. Never ubricate it because doing so wi cause fauty ock-up. For recommended pneumatic circuits, refer to page Operating the pneumatic circuit Instead of the conventiona reciproca air cyinder circuit, use an pneumatic circuit, such as the recommended circuit, in which measures are taken to prevent the piston from urching after the ock-up has been disengaged. During instaation adjustment, perform the operation by appying air pressure ony to the ock-up port.
