4 Welcome to our 2008 Annual Report. Southeast, Inc. is celebrating 30 years of making a difference for the individuals and families we serve in six Ohio counties. Over the course of the last five years we have seen many changes and grown tremendously with the acquisitions of Cornerstone Support Services in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties, Friends of the Homeless Shelters in Franklin County, and, most recently, Community Mental Health Services in Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties. Amidst all of these changes, Southeast continues to stay true to our mission and responsibility to provide quality healthcare services those most vulnerable, in all of the communities we serve. With over 80 programs and services, a dedicated Board of Directors and a staff of over 400 employees, we advocate for individuals to breakdown the stigma against mental illness and substance abuse issues and assist clients on their journeys toward recovery. 6 Mission Statement Southeast, Inc. is a comprehensive provider of mental health, chemical dependency, healthcare, and homeless services assisting diverse populations regardless of their economic status. With the belief that all people have the capacity to grow and change, we provide our services to people of all ages, cultures, races, religious preferences, genders, and sexual orientations in order to enhance wellness and recovery, thereby improving families, workplaces, and communities

8 Fresh A.I.R. Gallery To honor our 25th anniversary, Southeast opened Fresh AIR (Artists In Recovery) Gallery in the lobby at 131 North High Street. At an opening reception, the Recovery statue, commissioned by the Southeast Board of Directors from sculptor Stephen Canneto, was unveiled. Through the exhibition of work by highly skilled and, in many cases, professional artists who are affected by mental health and/or substance use disorders, Fresh AIR educates the community and weakens the stigma of mental illness and substance abuse. Since it opened, more than 6,000 people, from all over the U.S. and abroad, have visited the gallery and seen the power of recovery on display in 25 exhibits. expression

10 Tuscarawas/Carroll Counties On April 11, 2005, Southeast expanded beyond our central Ohio home with the incorporation of Cornerstone Behavioral Healthcare under the Southeast umbrella. SE-TC, as the offices in New Philadelphia and Carrollton have come to be known, is located in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties. Services include crisis intervention; counseling and therapy for adults, children, and adolescents; medication management, and community-based psychiatric support. Southeast was pleased to welcome the former Cornerstone staff in order to continue service to 250 adults and children annually in these two counties. Fusion

12 Friends of the Homeless Southeast expanded our focus and mission in July 2006 when we acquired Friends of the Homeless, Inc. The Friends of the Homeless programs include the 130 bed Men s Emergency Shelter, 47 bed emergency shelter for homeless women (Rebecca s Place), and New Horizons transitional housing program, for adults with severe mental illness and histories of chronic homelessness. The goal of Southeast s shelter programs is rapid resolution of each person s housing crisis and movement into stable, permanent housing within the community. Nearly 1,800 people utilize these safety net programs each year. Evolution

14 Change in Administration Southeast s leadership changed in June 2007 when we said goodbye to long-time Executive Director Sandra Stephenson who was chosen by Governor Ted Strickland for a cabinet level position as the Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health. When Sandy took her passion and commitment for recovery to the state level, the Board of Directors appointed Bill Lee, former Associate Executive Director of Southeast, to the CEO position. Bill is only the fourth leader in Southeast s 30 year history. With continuity in leadership and a strong vision for the future, Southeast looks forward to continuing our growth and development into our next 30 years. leadership

16 Belmont/Harrison/Monroe Counties Southeast expanded our service area further east with the addition of Community Mental Health Services of Belmont/Harrison/Monroe Counties in June In these counties, Southeast provides a continuum of consumer-oriented services, including outpatient counseling, partial hospitalization, crisis intervention, community psychiatric support, medication management, and residential treatment. Staff from Community Mental Health Services joined the Southeast staff, continuing a strong community presence and history of high quality clinical care. Southeast BHM provides services to 3,250 clients annually in these three counties. integration

The Supportive Housing Program provided housing, rental subsidy and supportive services to 118 individuals with histories of chronic homelessness in
